22.01.2022 What is a Tibialis Posterior Tendinopathy? The tibialis posterior muscle has a tendon that runs down the inside of your shin and behind your inside ankle and joins on to your inside arch. Its job is to help support our foot arch and to support the ankle. The pain can often restrict running, jumping or even walking. Common causes of tibialis posterior tendinopathy include:... Overload on the tendon Sudden and excessive increased exercises Flat (over-pronated) feet Tight hamstrings (back of thigh) and calf muscles Toe walking (or constantly wearing high heels) Poorly supportive footwear, or a change in footwear (even to new shoes!) Poor muscle and tendon control How is tibialis posterior tendinopathy diagnosed? Your podiatrist can usually confirm the diagnosis of Tibialis Posterior tendinopathy in the clinic. They will base their diagnosis on your history, signs and symptoms and clinical assessments. If required, further investigations including US scan or MRI may be necessary. Treatment for tibialis posterior tendinopathy? RICE- (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), footwear advice, pre-fab inserts, strengthening and stretching exercises and custom orthotics.

21.01.2022 Children’s lower limbs develop quickly and with this come some challenges, and numerous foot related concerns that may be missed. So, when would it be wise to consult a podiatrist and how can a podiatrist assist? As your child grows they will achieve many developmental milestones including; social, physical, cognitive, emotional and communication. While each milestone may vary, parents tend to become concerned if their child hasn’t developed their milestones at the same age ...as their child’s peers or if their child presents with signs and symptoms which aren’t typical. By understanding the developmental milestones, you can monitor your child’s developmental growth. Keep in mind some children may walk as early as 9 to 10 months or in some cases 14 to 15 months. If you’re concerned or need further clarification a Podiatrist can assist and ensure appropriate interventions are initiated early. Common problems associated with children’s lower limbs can also include: - Flat feet - Pigeon toeing - Tip toeing - Bowed legs - Heel pain - Delayed walking - Muscle soreness - Limping - Leg length differences - Clumsiness (falling and tripping) - Occasional ingrown and warts. Though some commonalities may be normal for your child, due to mechanical functional factors or the developmental milestones it is best to get professional advice to prevent any potential condition from worsening. One of our friendly podiatrist will take a medical history, assess and/or identify any concerns. They can also assess: - Biomechanical assessment - Implement strengthening or stretching exercises - Give footwear advice - Assist in activity modification - Determine if a custom made orthotic or innersole is suitable - Determine if further testing or referral is required
