13.01.2022 Tonight we remember the bravery of local Bridport born soldier , Peter Robert Harrington BREWER. He was a Engineering student living in Launceston when he enlisted in the 12th Battalion . He survived the war and returned to Australia 13 April 1919 after winning a Military Medal. Tonight is the 100 year Anniversary of the bravery that Peter displayed to win this Medal . Here is a copy of his recommendation :'Conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty at VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on ...night 24th/25th April 1918. During the advance on night 24th/25th April 1918 he cleverly guided his two machine guns through the enemy barrage and reached the objective allotted by his officer. Throughout the action he showed fearless disregard of danger particularly in personal reconnaissance in No Man's Land, trying to locate enemy Machine Guns. During a reconnaissance in No Man's Land he was wounded but made his way back and reported the situation to his officer before leaving for the dressing station.'
