24.01.2022 Whats your biggest bugbear (pet peeve, pain-in-the-neck, thorn-in-your-side, @?#%#) when it comes to digital if you work in marketing or nonprofit? Lets see if we can work together to solve it in 2020! Ive got a few bugbears of my own... Ill drop mine in the comments, if you drop yours too!

23.01.2022 From my recent and reluctant trip overseas I was able to increase my understanding of anthropology and thought Id attempt to encourage us with a few things. SMILE WIDER: the few times I have ventured out to get takeaway food or coffee I felt the need to smile a bit a more and a bit wider than normal. A smile remains the most inexpensive gift I (you) can bestow on anyone and yet its powers can vanquish kingdoms. Og Mandino. You dont know what someone is going through that ...you may be passing by, they may have just had to lay off staff or found out theyve lost their job or had a difficult encounter. Your smile is free and works even at 1.5 meters away. TIP LIBERALLY: I kinda like the culture of tipping in the USA and again felt to do my little bit to keep things going for small businesses. If you have the means, tip liberally where you can. It wont dramatically change someones bottom line, but it will help business people know that their customers believe in them and will give them a little hope for the future. Give a thought too to charities that still need to operate but would see a dive in donations at this time. ENGAGE SAFELY: of course we need to abide by social distancing measures, but I feel people are more open to a discussion from a stranger. Crisis can bring a community closer together and bring with it a lot of gifts. If you have to venture outside, say hello from a distance and increase your engagement safely. Reach out to a friend that may already be struggling with life and may be doing it even tougher now. We need to be proactive and make a conscious effort to engage with others more through an SMS or via online means to decrease our own loneliness and hep the wellbeing of others. DEFAULT TO KINDNESS: sure theres a lot of craziness going on in the world, but lets make sure we default to kindness and not judgement. Sometimes youre damned if you do and youre damned if you dont. Its easy to jump to conclusions about peoples decisions without knowing all the factors involved. Jump to kindness and not to judgement. Brush off the silliness out there and show kindness. SHARE YOUR SKILLS: a lot of people are losing their jobs or having to adapt their businesses, workplaces or nonprofits in ways theyd never thought theyd have to. Reach out to your friends in business and let them know youre available if they need a hand or need some advice. Your skills or expertise might just be what unlocks their creativity allowing them to pivot their business in the right direction. In saying that, I am available if you need some advice or assistance in changing things up and increasing your online presence or helping your team work remotely. If I dont know the answer, I know people who do. Please reach out, Im in self-isolation, so Ive got a little bit of extra time up my sleeve. www.digitalforgood.com.au See more

23.01.2022 CREATIVE TENSION Are you shrinking your vision to suit reality or is your reality having to change because of the size of your vision? People often have great difficulty talking about their visions, even when the visions are clear. Why? Because we are acutely aware of the gaps between our vision and reality. I would like to start my own company, but I don’t have the capital. Or, I would like to pursue the profession that I really love, but I’ve got to make a living.... These gaps can make a vision seem unrealistic or fanciful. They can discourage us or make us feel hopeless. But the gap between vision and current reality is also a source of energy. If there was no gap, there would be no need for any action to move toward the vision. Indeed, the gap is the source of creative energy. We call this gap creative tension. Imagine a rubber band, stretched between your vision and current reality. When stretched, the rubber band creates tension, representing the tension between vision and current reality. What does tension seek? Resolution or release. There are only two possible ways for the tension to resolve itself: pull reality toward the vision or pull the vision toward reality. Quote and graphics from The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge.
