25.01.2022 When the news is scary and the future is uncertain, many customers will look to you for reassurance even though you might not have the answers yourself. You can help by first finding your own sense of focus. Before you start communicating, take a minute to pause and breathe. Then put yourself in your audience's shoes. What are their concerns, questions, or interests? What do they need an immediate answer to? You might use language such as, I know you may be thinking The... quicker you can address whats on their minds, the more likely youll be able to calm them down. Seek out credible sources of information, and read fully before distilling it into clear, concise language. You can confidently express doubt or uncertainty, while still maintaining authority. You might say, Reports are still coming in, but what I understand so far is Communicate frequently, even if you dont have news to report, so that people know you are actively following the issue. And provide tangible action items. Use language such as, Here are the steps we are taking, or Heres what you can do, to demonstrate action -- adapted from a Harvard Business Review article - How to Reassure Your Team When the News Is Scary, by Allison Shapira

24.01.2022 Logged into the banking today and saw this on our bank statement from a client ... We absolutely adore the people we work with :) Some of our favourite memories over the journey are moments like this Strong relationships are built over time. Forged in long hours in the trenches together with people building their business. By their side. This is what a real partnership feels like, and we're grateful to be part of it

23.01.2022 We've had an increase in requests lately to change payroll, increase wages, or register entities for PAYG-W. We've asked a lot of questions to understand each situation, and sometimes looking after the best interests of a business means saying no. This is why

23.01.2022 When COVID started getting serious here in Australia, we looked at what we could do to support businesses. One of our initiatives was developing the PAYG calculator, to help people understand what it would mean for them The other thing we've done is offer pro-bono meetings on Fridays (we call them Cashflow Fridays) with our customers to talk through what's on their mind, go through cashflow and help them plan what's happening As an industry it's important that we do what we c...an to support businesses, and one another. To me, that's what #leadership is about - making the first move, taking the first step, and doing it for the right reasons Recently i've seen people talking about how they have used our worksheets to help educate their clients, and I'm truly grateful for that. If it helps someone sleep at night, in amongst all this stress - then we know that in some way a difference has been made in the world So thank you to those who have paid the kindness forward to their businesses, friends and clients #mindsetmatters - Andrew

22.01.2022 In times like this, with all the noise, anxiety and stress - it's a good time to remember that we are the masters of our ship. We are in control of our destiny. You have choice in how you respond to every moment, so will you choose to buy into the fear? Or will you choose another path for yourself? Who do you believe you are? I know what we choose. We choose to step up, step forward, and set the example for others #leadership #covid #smallbusiness #mindset #westernaustralia #australia #accounting #mindsetiseverything #growth

22.01.2022 #JobKeeper #Calculator We've built a quick little calculator to help business owners assess the turnover test for JobKeeper, as well as the impact that has on rent reductions for commercial SME tenants. Check it out here https://digit.business/jobkeeper-calculator We'll continue to update it as more clarifications come from the ATO and treasury - and the FAQs will be filled out soon with references to the rules, and GST legislation for background

18.01.2022 Our HBR tip of the day comes from an article - 15 questions about remote work When you arent accustomed to working remotely, it can be hard to adjust psychologically. To make the transition, take a disciplined approach to managing your day and develop a few rituals. Schedule a start and an end time for work. Take a shower, get dressed even if its not your usual office attire then get started on the days activities. If you typically move around a lot at work, build tha...t into your day by taking brief walks outside or even around the house. If youre an extrovert and accustomed to a lot of social contact, make sure that still happens. Ask yourself: How will I protect myself from feeling lonely or isolated? and make a plan. And focus on the positives. Think about what you enjoy about working from home, for example, playing music or being more flexible with your time. Remind yourself that even if its not your choice right now, working from home can be fun. #wfh #workingfromhome #selfcare #smallbusiness #remotework #australia #covid

17.01.2022 Always nice to get some great feedback after one of our Xero workshops helping business owners use Xero effectively - "I found the Xero workshop run by Yourself and Scott to be very informative, the way the workshop was run was excellent, I particularly liked that we could run through the activities as they were being described to assist with a more thorough understanding The time management of the workshop was great, whilst there was a lot of information provided it was deli...vered with good pace and there was plenty of time for questions and queries One of the biggest takeaways for my business will be the ability to perform tracking and to easily generate reports for different parts of the business A big plus from the day for me was that the workshop was all about Xero, I have been to other workshops/information sessions that have been advertised as being about a program and they had little program content and a big sales pitch on why we should get whomever was presenting the session to be hired as a business advisor, there was no pressure/encouragement whatsoever today to do this but there was the reassurance that if we needed help it was only a phone call away! Thanks again, and no doubt Ill be back in touch when I get set up and start making mistakes" #xero #learn

12.01.2022 #breaking We have advice from someone we trust that the ATO website will be updated today with new rules around the Turnover Test for JobKeeper - You can choose either Cash or Accrual methods, as long as you keep applying the same method (you can't use Cash for March 2019 and Accrual for March 2020 for example) The restriction around accrual reporting businesses only using an accrual method has been dropped
