25.01.2022 Once again, many thanks to all our members who have filled in and returned their Declaration of Membership form to us. We still urgently need more members to do the same before 25th September 2019 in order to maintain registration as a political party. Please check your Spam or Junk Mail folders if you think you have not received the email about this matter.... To join as a member or to renew your existing membership, please go to our website dignityparty.org.au/become-a-member To request the Electoral Commission party membership declaration form (for members) please email vote1dignity@gmail If you haven’t had to sign/email this form to Dignity Party before it is because the Electoral Commission did not require it last year. Under the SA Electoral Act we have been asked to have a minimum of 200 people sign forms this year. We receive no government funding and have a small number of volunteers working on keeping our party going, your help is needed and filling out this form is essential to us being able to keep our registration. Your cooperation is really appreciated, and we thank you for it. Together we can continue to fight for Dignity for all. Kind Regards, Dignity Party Team

22.01.2022 Today we celebrated the life of Phillip Beddall - 30 years of advocacy and leadership and his preparedness ''to be the true face of what it means to have a disability". In celebrating the gift Phil was to Dignity (and other organisations) we mourn the loss of a friend and relentless campaigner for justice! As reflected in a speech today - Phillips initials 'P B' tells a story of 'Personal Best'. Phil leaves us (Dignity, other justice agencies & us as individuals) with an inspirational challenge to live our personal best to help our world become a better, fairer place. Post details below. Image descriptions within photographs.

20.01.2022 The Commonwealth Government is currently reviewing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) legislation to make the NDIS process simpler and more straight forward and remove barriers to positive participant and provider experiences with the NDIS. As part of the review, a NDIS Participant Service Guarantee will be legislated to improve participant experiences with the NDIS. The guarantee will set new standards for the time it takes for key steps in the NDIS process incl...uding access to decisions, NDIS plan approval and having plans reviewed. A particular focus will be on improving processes for children and participants needing specialist disability accommodation, assistive technology, or other services requiring a quote or further approval. The new guarantee will be in place from 1 July 2020. In South Australia, a face to face workshop will be held in Mt Gambier on 17 September and in Adelaide on 19 September from 10am to 2pm. You can find out more about the review, and register to attend a workshop at engage.dss.gov.au or email [email protected] People can make also make a written submission or complete the online survey at engage.dss.gov.au. Feedback can be provided until 31 October 2019. People with disability, their families and carers are encouraged to share what matters most to them about the NDIS. It is critical that NDIS participants are at the centre of the review. Anyone can provide feedback on the NDIS review.

16.01.2022 Do you think more needs to be done in SA to make businesses accessible ? Well maybe we should be following this example. Monash University researchers have written a report that demonstrates good access really is good for business. The full report is titled "Putting a dollar value on accessibilty" by Dr Nikos Thomacos and Dr Rachel McDonald.... The City of Melbourne commissioned the report to assist businesses to become more accessible. https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au//good-access-good-busines.

04.01.2022 South Australia and the Northern Territory are still the only states in Australia that do not receive Government funding to support children and families living with epilepsy. 63,000 people live with epilepsy in South Australia and 8,000 in the Northern Territory. The Epilepsy Centre continues to provide support and services to those affected funded solely by private donations.... Please consider signing their petition. https://www.change.org/p/government-funding-for-epilepsy

02.01.2022 People with disability spend about $100 a week more on basic living costs such as transport and healthcare than Australians without a disability. And at the sam...e time, more and more people with disability are having their claim for the Disability Support Pension rejected and are being forced onto the lower Newstart payment. These are just two of the findings contained in new reports released today by disability advocates and researchers. The reports show that the financial cost of living with disability and declining access to the DSP is causing significant economic, social, psychological stress and unnecessary hardship for people with disability. As a result both advocates and researchers are calling for urgent reforms to the DSP. Our good friends at AFDO are one of the organisations behind the reports released today. You can read the media release about the reports here - https://www.afdo.org.au/disability-support-pension-review/ You can read the full reports here - https://www.afdo.org.au/dsp-reports/ (Image description: A group of eight people - five women and three men - stand together in a hall in Parliament House in Canberra. 01.01.2022 Dear Friends Dignity Party has been grappling with the news of the loss (yesterday morning) of one of its leaders - Vice President of the Dignity Board. Phillip Beddall, was a high-profile human rights campaigner, a media commentator on issues of disability, human rights issues, health and accessibility. Phillip stood as a Dignity Party candidate in the 2018 South Australian election. Phillip was also Vice Chair of SACOSS as well as Chair and SA Coordinator of the Young Peo...ple in Nursing Homes National Alliance and a supporter of the Barriers to Justice (B2J) campaign. The courage to fight for civil rights is hard enough - to do it with severe disability is harder still! Dear Phillip - Thank you so much for everything you have done for South Australians. Vale to a very good man, comrade and friend. You will not be forgotten. Image 1. Phillip seated at the end of Sth City Tram Stop surrounded by journalists. 2. Phillip wearing (then) D4D Tshirt in a photograph with Dignity Party President Rick Neagle, and Dignity supporters. 3.
