15.01.2022 Business Update The Maleny Dairies point of difference is our commitment to fight hard to keep Queensland Dairy Farmers operating and to fight hard for Queensla...nd Families who want to support their local farms and have high quality milk as a healthy food source for their growing families. We estimate there are less than 280 farms left in Queensland today. Despite what they tell you, the multinationals are 100% responsible for this disaster. Raw milk is cheaper to buy in the southern states (we are talking Victoria and southern NSW here) and they are shutting down their northern based business infrastructure and just trucking it up instead of paying our farmers the right price. Our business model is working and it is sustainable. In fact Maleny Dairies is better than sustainable in that the bigger we get the stronger we become. On the first of September we signed up 2 dairy farms to see if we can in fact try and sell more milk and help communities rediscover the real link that is buying milk in their local shop and knowing it is supporting their local farm. Our big announcement is that for people of Toowoomba we have signed on the Hayden Family. The Haydens have been Toowoomba Dairy Farmers for generations who put their farm up for sale because they did not see a future. As their only viable option to keep farming, the Hayden Family also approached Maleny Dairies to see if we could take them on. We agreed to a 12 month trial. We both hope that if we let the Toowoomba Community know that our label now represents one from their very own back yard then our small sales in that region will grow. So to our Queensland Families who are in Toowoomba we will report regularly to you our regional sales and we promise that when sales take all of Haydens milk we will go and take on another Toowoomba Dairy Farm. We estimate Toowoomba Families consume 100,000 litres of milk a week and Maleny Dairies averages 3,000 litres per week in sales in this area. 100,000 litres a week equates to roughly 5 farms. Maleny Dairies would love to take 5 farms and if there are still more in the region then we will target the west Brisbane corridor to help. We have also listened to our Brisbane Families who have wondered if we could support Queensland Dairy farms in other districts. The second Farming Family is the Gerber Family who are based in the Lockyer Valley. Brisbane if you can support these families by buying more of our milk and challenging your local Woolies, Coles and IGA stores to range in our milk we will keep bringing these farms on and we will keep them going. This may not seem like a big announcement however trust us, it is huge for our business. The cost of travelling all the way from Maleny to Toowoomba is very expensive. But we live with risk every day and we wouldnt be Maleny Dairies if we werent just a little bit crazy. We have no doubt that Queensland Dairy Farms will increase in numbers one day we just pray that the numbers start to turn around in the 200s and not the 10s.
