18.01.2022 Good morning all, Looking back over the past 26 years of dealing with corporate sponsors, fending off animal activists, twice being insolvent, meeting the ever changing local government rules and conditions, attempting to always comply with mother nature, whilst setting a precedent for other snow based race sites to form, not forgetting sled dog tour businesses operators to establish as well then at the same time remaining independent of any national governing bodies the race... committee of Altitude 5000 Sled dog Group (A5k) have decided we have done enough, it is time to park up our sleds. A5k walk away pleased and honoured knowing we have positively contributed to creating Australia's first snow based and longest running sled dog racing event in Australia. In addition we are proud to have learnt that some have said the Altitude 5000 race namely the Dinner Plain Sled dog Challenge has been a must do race and the most prestigious event on the Australian sled dog racing calendar. Certainly the media attention and attraction of corporate sponsors seem to have agreed and clearly so do many of the returning competitors as well. So in closing down A5K wish to thank the many sponsors, local and international race Marshall's, race veterinarians, first aiders, media outlets, film crews, snow groomers, on mountain supporters (you know who you all are) spectators, A5k volunteers, dog handlers and lastly every person who over the past 26 years has made the effort to attend, compete or be associated with the Dinner Plain Sled dog Challenge, our great race. Now please don’t panic we are finishing on a high. A5k have been working closely advising a freshly formed sled dog racing group who in fact are in the final stages of creating a new sled dog racing event at Dinner Plain for August 2020. This new group are not taking over Altitude 5000 or the Dinner Plain Sled dog Challenge they are forming their own new look event from scratch so please cut them a little slack and be nice whilst they bed things down. The following text outlines who the new group is and their foundation members. A5k wish them all the success as I’m sure the sled dog racing community do also. Once again thank you all for your interest in our 26 year great race, the A5k journey is now complete. Regards Altitude 5000 Sleddog Group inc.
