25.01.2022 Diona’s project team working in Sydney’s South West took time this morning to discuss the importance of mental health, supporting each other and asking a simple question R U OK? R U OK? Day reminds us of the profound and positive impact a single conversation can have on a colleague, friend, partner or family member. We believe it’s important that we treat every day as R U OK? day and take the time to check in regularly with our family, friends and workmates. #ruokeveryday #caringisglobal #mentalhealth #wecareforpeopleswellbeing #TeamDiona #WeAreDiona #ruokday #wellbeing #mentalhealthawareness #wellness #mindfulness

25.01.2022 Calibre Diona’s leadership team recently visited Frasers Property Australia’s Fairwater residential estate to oversee the commencement of construction of the remaining stages at the pioneering project in Sydney’s West. Fairwater is one of the largest geothermal air conditioning installations in the world. When complete, this 38-hectare landmark development will comprise of almost 900 individual geothermal systems. Diona, and its design and infrastructure partner business Cali...bre, have made a strategic investment in geothermal, purchasing drilling assets to ensure oversight from design through to construction and maintenance of the geothermal experience. Peter Massey, Calibre Diona’s CEO and Managing Director said that the company sees geothermal as a complementary offering to its existing utilities services. 24.01.2022 This year, for "R U OK?" Day, Diona and Calibre have embraced the theme 'Caring is Global', recognising that mental ill-health transcends gender, religion, language, politics and physical boundaries but showing you care starts with a universal question, R U OK?. Today, our employees across our business have asked this important question in their native language in celebration of the rich diversity of our team and recognise the importance of caring for others. We care for people’s well-being is a fundamental part of who we are at Diona and Calibre. That care starts with those closest to us and extends across the rich diversity of people, cultures, languages and experiences that form the essential building blocks of an inclusive organisation. #theresmoretosay #RUOK #RUOKDay #wecareforepeopleswellbeing #teamdiona

23.01.2022 A small act of kindness amidst COVD-19 lockdowns in Melbourne has helped care for a vulnerable member of the community. Whilst conducting works for APA Group in the Carlton area, Diona came across a non-English speaking elderly man living in extremely poor conditions with no food, hot water or compliant gas at the property. Diona’s Community Engagement Advisor, Laura Phillips and the crew went above and beyond to assist this resident arranging for the police to conduct three ...welfare checks to ensure he will not continue living in this state. This resulted in Housing aged action group and St Vincent de Paul getting involved. APA Community Engagement Coordinator, Jasmin Kerr said, This example of compassion and kindness highlights the great work our contractors do out in the field. In particular, given the COVID lockdowns, this demonstrates that we can have a positive impact on the community outside gas related works. 23.01.2022 Diona’s Johnstons Creek project team came together to bring some Christmas cheer to the children at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick Initiated by Hussein Yazdi, the team collected toys and materials just in time to put a smile on the faces of sick kids for Christmas. This was an amazing effort by the team, who managed to put this all together in the space of just a couple of days, and whilst the team collectively raised a significant amount of money, a special mention... is deserved to Hussein Yazdi, who alone donated half of all the goods that were collected. Thanks also to Isabel Nobre, Brett Vanderlight, Susie Jolak, Killian McGuinness, Luke Slechta, Irfan Khan and Ozair Karim. We wish all the children a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2021. 16.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday The Colongra Lateral Pipeline in 2008, is a project some of our longest serving team members speak fondly of. It involved installing 9km of 1,067mm diameter pipe with wall thicknesses of 24mm, 27mm and 30mm. Constructed out of X70 high carbon steel, it was the largest diameter storage vessel pipeline constructed in Australia and many components and materials had to be sourced from America, Canada, Europe and Asia. The pipeline was designed as a storage vess...el; requiring it to cater for varied pressures up to 15,000kPA for over 4,000 cycles which was a first in Australia. A typical pipeline is laid from point A to point B over the shortest practical route possible. However, this project required 9km of pipe to be installed within a 1.2-kilometre corridor. Diona worked with the client to find a solution which was to run the pipeline in a loop arrangement creating a continuous pipeline rather than interconnecting storage lines. Although the majority of the corridor was restricted to 30m wide, Diona's careful planning facilitated multiple pipe strings, whilst still allowing room to carry out trenching operations at the same time. A system was adopted which enabled production to reach up to 200m/day on straight runs in this busy corridor. 16.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday - Diona has delivered water infrastructure for over 35 years. The Powells Creek Naturalisation was the second of its kind for Sydney Water and was a multi-award winning project that won the hearts of the local community. The project involved transforming 850 metres of river bank by removing the existing degraded concrete channel initially constructed in the 1930s and replacing it with gently sloping banks made from sandstone and native plants creating a more ...natural waterway. 15.01.2022 Ausgrid has announced Diona as a successful proponent for the Civil Construction Services panel, delivering essential electrical infrastructure construction and maintenance services to the greater Sydney region over the next few years. Brian McGuinness, NSW State Manager for Diona, says that securing this new panel arrangement with Ausgrid is a strong endorsement of the trusted partnership Diona has developed with Ausgrid. Diona’s relationship with Ausgrid extends over 20 ye...ars, having delivered more than $200 million worth of projects in the last ten years alone. Over this time, we have built up a solid portfolio of electrical experience from laying high voltage transmission cables on the Balgowlah 132kV projects, to the recent builds of the Peakhurst and Rozelle Substations. At times we had up to 30 crews operating simultaneously on Ausgrid works, he said. We are excited to have the opportunity to continue our partnership with Ausgrid and support them in delivering safe, reliable electricity to the Sydney region. 14.01.2022 1980 was the year that Pac Man, Rubik’s Cube, and Post-it Notes were released, ‘Call Me’ by Blondie was the Billboard topping song, Fax Machines were the new technology of the day, Malcolm Fraser was the Prime Minister, Sale of the Century television show launched, Canterbury Bulldogs defeated Sydney Roosters in NRL and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) was the blockbuster movie. It was also the year that John and Margaret O’Connor started the Diona business in ...Sydney. Equipped with a Backhoe, a vision and plenty of tenacity, the O’Connor family turned a startup business into a multi-million dollar company employing over 500 people in the space of 30 years. Although slightly delayed due to COVID, we are dedicating the last couple of months of 2020 to celebrating our 40 years in business and the people and projects that have made Diona the business it is today! #Flahsbackon40years #DionaTurns40 #40yearsdeliveringessentialcommunityinfrastructure

12.01.2022 The McConnell Dowell Diona joint venture (MDJV) are a major framework partner in the SA Water capital delivery program 2020-24. The team have been working on the Barossa Growth upgrade project in Reeves Plains where a recent community focused water reuse opportunity arose. The team approached the SA Country Fire Service (CFS) at Two Wells about donating recycled water from a newly installed 2000m of trunk main on Gawler Road, Reeves Plains. APEX VAC Solutions helped the team... transport the 120,000 litres of hydraulic tested water to the Two Wells CFS. With four trunk main outputs to test in the area, we’ll continue to provide this recycled water to the CFS who contribute so much to our community. We’re delighted to be working with SA Water, the nation’s second largest water recycler and contributing to a sustainable future. 12.01.2022 We recently reached a milestone in the construction of a new gravity sewer main in South Brisbane for Brisbane City Council achieving the 248m tunnel bore at 12.5m depth under Grey Street in five weeks thanks to the careful planning from our team and partners Rob Carr. The next stage of the works will see us connect the sewer pipeline into the new Sewerage Pump Station currently being built on behalf of Urban Utilities, as part of the early works program for Brisbane Metro. #constructionindustry #civilengineering #engineeringexcellence #WeareDiona #TeamDiona #DionaQLD #wastewatermanagement

11.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what goes in to building wastewater infrastructure? Come along for the ride as the Diona team in QLD build the Grey Street Pump Station for Urban Utilities and then the connecting gravity sewer trunk main for Brisbane City Council as part of the early works program for Brisbane Metro. These works are highly complex. Not only are we digging a 6 metre diameter by 17.5 metre deep wet-well and a 2 metre diameter by 12.5 metre deep grit chamber, the site footprint is only 20.3 metres wide by 24.7 metres, nestled between buildings in one of Brisbane busiest suburbs. Challenging work is what Diona does best and our team are making great progress on this project.

10.01.2022 We are pleased to celebrate five years partnering with batyr and generating $1,000,000 of support over that time through fundraising, sponsorship, volunteering and in-kind support for the amazing work they are doing for youth mental health. batyr’s mission to empower young people to seek help when they need it and raise awareness to help smash the stigma around mental health! Calibre Diona’s Board Chair, David O'Connor who began this partnership with batyr in 2015 said, I'm ...so proud and grateful that we have been able to take a powerful idea and through the efforts of many people, do what we said. I'm excited by the positive change both organisations will continue to make to each other as we now plan for the future.... watch this space! As CEO & Managing Director of the Calibre Diona business, our commitment to batyr brings to life one of our core values, namely ‘We care for people’s wellbeing’. We look forward to continuing to support batyr well into the future, said Peter Massey. #mentalhealth #wecareforpeopleswellbeing #TeamDiona #WeAreDiona #wellbeing #mentalhealthawareness

09.01.2022 Diona's Melbourne team and our contracting partner Ross Services are normally a close-knit team. These two R U OK? Day photos from pre-Covid 2019 and now highlight how it is more important than ever to have a conversation about life with mates - even if it is through masks and from a distance. The top image is of this time last year having a chat about mental health and being able to sit beside one another and physically reach out to the person beside you if needed. The botto...m image was this year having a chat about mental health (behind a face mask) in the car park because the global pandemic is causing stress/fatigue to everyone. As Victoria's stage 4 restrictions continue, working on projects has been 'tough for everyone involved' ... with no life outside of work these days, not being able to catch up with mates, enjoy a weekend away, the simple things. However, with the weather on the up, it does take away a lot of the issues on site, being covered in water, mud and dirt everyday, the good weather does bring up the morale on site. After all, a happy crew is a productive crew. #theresmoretosay #RUOK #RUOKDay #wecareforepeopleswellbeing #teamdiona

08.01.2022 The Johnstons Creek Naturalisation project is transforming a 120 year old polluted stormwater channel into a healthy, natural waterway that the local community can enjoy. Works involve removing the old concrete floor and walls and replacing them with a new concrete floor and central sandstone meandering channel, stabilised sandstone banks, native plants and trees. This is the second project of its kind that Diona has undertaken with Sydney Water, having successfully completed the Powells Creek project in 2018. Check out the progress to date below.
