The timber is #sculpted with fire in a traditional ancient Japanese technique called #ShouSugiBan (or Yakisugi) that preserves wood by charring it. The process involves charring the wood with flame, cooling it with water, brushing it with horse hair and finishing it by hand with four coats of water... based clear coat using paint brush and dry roller, the result is a jet black matte finish that accentuates the natural grain of the timber.
