A child with good emotional intelligence can manage their own emotions, recognise and respond to other people's feeling, is better able to tolerate frustration and stress, has less self-destructive behaviour, is less lonely, more focused and less implusive than children with poorer emotion intelligence. 19.01.2022 Is your child an underachiever? There may be several reasons why there is a gap between a childs "actual ability" and what they produce in school. They may not do as well as expected due to a Learning Disorder such as dyslexia, dysgraphia or ADHD.... Sometimes Gifted or Highly Capable children dont do as well as youd expect due to boredom and may zone out due to lack of challenge. Sometimes children dont reach their potential due to emotional reasons. These could include things such as low self-esteem; high anxiety; difficulty with interpersonal relationships and emotional control; lack of insight about themselves and the world around them; family and home environment; school culture; parental expectations; and sibling achievements. 18.01.2022 HELP FOR FAMILIES WITH ADHD. DIVIDE AND CONQUER Plus 15% off sitewide with code MAGIC15 Cant see this email? View online 15% OFF SITEWIDE - USE CODE: MAGIC15... Before they had kids, most couples dreamed of what they hoped their family life would be like. They imagined pleasant scenes of family togetherness, warmth, and joy. Then, along came ADHD. These visions of interpersonal heaven did not materialize often, and when they did, they were frequently marred by anticipatory anxiety and angry explosions. The reality was the opposite of the adage the more the merrier. When ADHD is involved, it seems, the more people who get together in one place at one time, the greater the chances for aggravation, noise, and conflict. Its hard to be honest about this limitation. For example, Mom says to Dad, Wouldnt it be fun if we took the kids to Disney World? The correct answer might be, No, it would not be fun. The kids would fight on the plane, in the rental car, and in the hotel room. When wed have to decide what to do, no one would be able to agree. Sit-down meals would be a chore, and our ADHD son would want to buy everything he saw. The whole experience would make him overly excited and lead to more tantrums. Thats the bad news. Heres the good news: the Divide and Conquer Routine. Positive interactions between family members are possible, just usually not when the whole family is together. With the Divide and Conquer Routine, we take advantage of a useful and proven fact about ADHD kids: they are much more manageable in one-on-one situations. So we recommend that the group be split up as much as possible. Although its a bit sad, this strategy is a tremendous help when it comes to encouraging upbeat and enjoyable interactions. Read on to find out how the Divide and Conquer Routine can help your family. 13.01.2022 Top tip for stopping an argument between siblings- Use humour! If your children are fighting over a toy, try diverting their attention by putting on a wacky headress, funny expression and tell them that they are driving you nuts! (The goofier you are, the better!) Hopefully you can convert a quarrel into a laugh. Suprising your children with humour can help release emotional tension and improve the whole family's mental health.... 07.01.2022 What myth about autism do hear too often? "Myth 5: Autism is a mental health condition/mental disability Autism is a neurological disorder. Studies of people with autism show they have abnormalities in brain structure and neurotransmitter levels. It is not a mental disability, as people on the autism spectrum show a wide range of intellectual abilities.... Its important to remember that autism is a spectrum and what is difficult for one individual is simple for another. Each case is different." http://blog.theautismsite.com/ten-autism-myths/2/

01.01.2022 A wonderful reminder of the importance of communication, especially in these changing times. #repost @biglifejournal with @get_repost Our words can build up our kids or tear them down. Children long for connection and a place to fit in and a place to feel secure. How we say things matters too.... Tone. Volume. Intent. Everyday, we model for our children how words are important. They can hear it in our joyous "Good Morning!" or in a frustrated "Wait a MINUTE!" And, friends, this is not easy stuff. Be GENTLE with yourselves too. Give yourselves grace when you make a mistake. Apologize to your child when the words or tone you choose are out of frustration. Be GENEROUS with positive words and encouragement. We want our children to be resilient. We want them to tackle problems and try new things. To be confident. To feel loved. Let's be mindful how we speak to children. They are watching us and listening to us and developing their sense of self all the while. Let's help them cultivate a strong inner voice. What are some ways you use words to build up your child's inner voice? #characterbuilding #giftsforkids #teachersofthegram #teachers #printables#childhoodunplugged #letthekids #kidsforreal #happykids #kidslife #unitedinmotherhood #raisingmytribe #biglifejournalquotes #biglifejournal #growthmindset See more
