12.01.2022 COMMUNITY FAIR TRADE Christmas products... Festive Body Yoghurts Doing far more than just giving you fabulous fast-absorbing moisture in 3 Limited Edition scents! DID YOU KNOW that all our Festive range Body Yoghurts contain both Community Fair Trade shea butter and Community Fair Trade almond milk?! That's some seriously good work being done every time one is purchased! Our CFT Shea Butter is sourced from the Tungteiya Women's Shea Butter Association in... Ghana. Our founder Anita Roddick started this partnership back in 1994! Now 640 women harvest freshly fallen shea nuts from the ground and using traditional handcraft techniques, create our shea butter in an 18-stage process passed down through generations. Some of the nuts are planted to reseed and grow new trees. In addition to paying a fair price, we pay a premium to help Tungteiya invest in community projects like healthcare, sanitation, water and education, that benefits over 45,000 people every year!! Our CFT Almond Milk comes from our supplier Mañán in Spain, otherwise known as "The Almond Experts". They use sustainable farming methods, organically growing the almonds using low-intensity farming and respecting local environmental issues including water shortages. They use broken nuts that aren't sold for food and turn unwanted Almond husks into compost to help minimise waste! Farms act as home to wildlife, including bees and amazingly almond plantations make effective fire barriers, helping to protect natural habitats from forest fires! See more

01.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY: WATER What Are Some Effects of Wasting Water? Wasting water has far-reaching consequences...these include: ... Destruction of aquatic environments Lack of agricultural productivity Scarcity of safe drinking water Increased use of water by humans leaves less water behind for aquatic ecosystems. Shortages of fresh, clean water caused by wasting of these resources result in dehydration, sickness and tension among people, especially in developing nations. OVER USE OF ENERGY: Cleaning and transporting water takes a large amount of energy. When this water is wasted, larger amounts must be cleaned and transported, and this requires the use of more fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources. The more water that is wasted, the faster these resources become depleted, and the more quickly their dangerous by-products such as carbon dioxide build up in the Earth's atmosphere. EXCESSIVE HUMAN CONSUMPTION: Overuse of water in homes also leaves less fresh water for use in agriculture. If plants cannot be watered due to shortages, crop yields are reduced and the food supply for humans and for livestock is threatened. The fresh water that is cleaned and delivered to homes and businesses is often taken from aquatic environments in which the plants and animals rely on the water to survive. If too much water is removed from these systems and not returned in equal quantities, species become endangered. In places where clean water is scarce, wasting water limits the amount that is available for other people to use for drinking, cooking and cleaning. In this way, wasting water contributes to illness, disease and starvation. Be WATER WISE - some simple tips to save water and money off your next bill... good for you - good for the planet!
