23.01.2022 Exciting news over the weekend from the Victorian Government as they announce the next round of restrictions beginning to ease https://mailchi.mp/06619bc804/restrictions-continue-to-ease

23.01.2022 One of the ways we are keeping our workers and clients safe is by having plenty of PPE on hand. Weve been hosting pop up stalls and mailing out PPE to all of our workers. If any of our workers see this post, dont forget to email [email protected] if you need any more PPE sent to you. At the same time, weve been delivering supplies to our Complex Care teams to ensure 100% availability of PPE at all times.... As always, this doesnt make us invincible, its one of many practical changes were implementing in our day to day processes to keep a little safer.

21.01.2022 Thank you Premier Dan Andrews for these words of understanding and support for deaf and hard of hearing Victorians. Its pleasing to know that the Premier of Vi...ctoria has listened to our communitys concern in relation to face masks and communication. The vast majority of deaf and hard of hearing people know that masks will help keep everyone safe and want to wear them. Raising awareness about potential barriers allows all Victorians to work together with kindness and respect to keep everyone informed and included. The Victorian Department of Health & Human Services has also released these info graphics which may be useful. We are aware many in our community are uncomfortable with the use of the term "hearing impaired" in these graphics and we have raised this officially with DHHS staff. We are pleased the first graphic has been updated since this was first raised earlier this week and will provide further updates when we have them. Download these pics to your phone so you can use them as required along with our advocacy graphics which can be found here: https://www.deafvictoria.org.au/coronavirus-advocacy-graph/ #MaskUpMelboune #DeafWithMasks #Communication #Leadership

20.01.2022 Great news for our self managed participants

20.01.2022 Breaking news for all our Victorian peeps (which is us too) ... The Victorian government has just declared Victoria a state of disaster. There are new rules fo...r everyone in metro Melbourne: You are only allowed to leave home for four reasons - work, care, exercise and shopping. Shopping will be restricted to one person from a house once a day - and only at shops that are in a 5km radius from your house. There will be a curfew from 8pm - 5am each night. You will only be able to be able to leave your house to get care, give care or to go to work. Exercise will be limited to one hour a day and only within a 5km radius of your home. School will return to remote learning for Yr 11 and 12s from Wednesday. Special schools will be open but only for those students who cannot be at home. In regional Victoria: Regional Victoria will move to Stage 3 restrictions from 11.59pm on Wednesday night. That means there will only be four reasons to leave home - work, exercise, care and shopping. All students will return to remote learning from Wednesday. The Premier has said he will make more announcements tomorrow about changes to work and workplaces. But he stressed that essential services - like food and chemists -would remain open. You can read news coverage here - https://www.abc.net.au//victoria-coronavirus-rest/12515914 The Department of Health and Human Services website has the statement from the Premier here - https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus And as always the good folks at IDEAS Disability Information have translated everything and put it all in one spot to make it easier for all of us - https://www.ideas.org.au//covid-19-stage-4-restrictions-in This is the news that we have been expecting - but we know that doesnt make it any easier. We are sending light and love out to everyone in our community. These changes will be very tough for everyone. Be kind to yourself and those around you. Please look after yourselves - and others. And if you find yourself struggling please reach out for support. There are a bunch of helpful numbers pinned to the top of this page - please check them out. (Image description: A map of the state of Victoria in yellow. The area around Melbourne is shaded in red. There is an emoji wearing a mask sitting on top of it. The text reads New information: Coronavirus changes in Victoria" in white lettering)

20.01.2022 Keeping our workers and clients safe is our top priority. Thats why today we are in Berwick at a central spot to distribute PPE to our workers in this region. DCV will be popping up across Victoria over the coming week to ensure everyone is able to access the PPE they need. Dont forget, masks are now a mandatory requirement if you live in Metro Melbourne or the Mitchell Shire. If you can wear a mask, you must. Masks will not make you invincible, so remember good hygiene practices as well.

19.01.2022 Avoid the 3 Cs. There are certain places where COVID-19 spreads more easily: 1 Crowded places 2 Close-contact settings 3 Confined and enclosed spaces

18.01.2022 Breaking news out of the NDIS this afternoon ... And its some good news on masks From today NDIS participants who rely on support workers for face to face ...help every day can claim the cost of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from their NDIS funds. But - and this is an important but - this is just for participants in Victoria and New South Wales. And people who live in their own home and who test positive for COVID-19 and are required to self-isolate or quarantine can now pay for the costs of getting the house cleaned from their NDIS funds. You can pay for the cleaning and the PPE from your core funds. If you are plan or Agency managed, you can buy PPE through registered providers. Self-managed participants can choose where they buy PPE and claim from their funds in their usual way. You can read the Ministers press release on the NDIS website - https://www.ndis.gov.au//5048-delivering-ndis-during-covid You can read the detail about how to claim for PPE here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/latest-advice-ndis And we are constantly updating our website with all the latest news. You can find more info here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/get-your-mask-on/ (Image description: A red rectangle with the words "Breaking News" in white capital letters. 04.01.2022 UPDATE: The NDIA have updated the NDIS website this afternoon. There is new info pack for Victorian families with school aged children. It gives examples and ca...se studies of different ways families can use their funds to support their kids while schools and services are closed. And while it is aimed at families and children lots of the info is relevant for NDIS participants of any age. You can find it here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/information-packs The Prime Minister gave a press conference yesterday where he mentioned NDIS participants. The PM said Victorian families with children with disability could use their NDIS funds to help manage during lockdown, including having more support in the home. We know its just not kids and families who need extra support and flexibility from the NDIS at this time. Weve been waiting to see if the the NDIS website was updated overnight but so far - no dice. We will bring any changes to you as soon as they happen. But in the meantime ... We are constantly updating our website with all the latest info for Victorians. You can find it here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/new-coronavirus-rules/ And dont forget the good folks at IDEAS Disability Information have tons of info and resources all in the one spot - https://www.ideas.org.au//faq-covid-19-from-people-with-a- Ideas are also the folks behind the Disability Information Helpine. Just call 1800 643 787. They can answer questions, chase down more information and get you where you need to go. The line is open Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm. (Image description: A torn out bit of paper with a part of the transcript of the Prime Ministers press conference yesterday. The text reads: "I also can confirm that families will be able to use their NDIS plans flexibly to support access workers in their homes, particularly in instances where children with a disability can no longer attend education or other day programs. Families should discuss their needs with their provider or contact the NDIA to seek assistance. What this means is if a family normally had a child attend a day program or special school and those facilities are not open, the family can use their existing plans flexibly to get disability support workers into their home to assist. Disability support workers are considered essential workers in Victoria." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison, August 6 2020 )

02.01.2022 One of the biggest barriers to people living with Disability fully participating in the community is the low level of awareness of Disabilities within the community. The free to complete Disability Awareness eLearning training resource seeks to challenge the ingrained cultural and attitudinal barriers that perpetuate discrimination and provides a general overview of the legislative framework which supports the inclusion of people with disability in Australia. This is a great resource to share, head to https://bit.ly/3cKUD1I to complete this course for free.

01.01.2022 We have been made aware of members of the public entering into verbal altercations with our workers for wearing a face mask. DCV would like to make it clear that our workers have been directed to wear face masks to ensure our clients safety, our workers safety and the safety of the public more broadly. This is in line with the current recommendations from DHHS, the Chief Medical Officer and the broader Victorian and Federal Government advice for Disability Support Providers.... If you would like to raise any concerns regarding DCV policy you are highly encouraged to contact our General Manager Rhys Gorman at [email protected] to voice these concerns, or email [email protected]. Verbal assault of our clients and/or their workers will be reported to authorities without hesitation.
