24.01.2022 Stable investments are often a better choice for older Australians. COVID-19 has been a timely reminder of how volatile share markets can be. Older Australian investors (those close to retirement or already retired) also need to be acutely aware of sequencing risk, which is the risk that you may get the worst possible returns at the worst possible time it’s the Murphy’s Law of investing. As you can see from the chart below, taken from Page 8 of the 2018 Russell Investments/...ASX Long Term Investing Report, Australian shares only produced an average annual net return of 4% (before tax) for the 10 years to December 2017 and most other investments produced less than 6% per annum over this ten year period. Whilst this is less of a problem for younger Australians, volatility can be financially and mentally challenging for older Australians relying on a regular income stream. The Rushton Disability Fund offers investors a fixed return of 6% per annum (i.e. 1.5% per calendar quarter) with no volatility in the value of the units. All units are backed by unlevered property in prime locations and the income is secured by long-term leases paid by government departments. Further, improving the lives of disabled Australians provides investors with the comfort of knowing they’re making a difference. For more information, visit our website at: www.disabilityfund.com.au

21.01.2022 Looming Income Crisis as Falling Returns Hit SMSFs by Duncan Hughes, Australian Financial Review 'Self-funded retirees in self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) fear an income crisis because of falling returns, lower dividends and interest rates as well as uncertainty over rental returns.... The latest government numbers show that SMSF returns plunged by nearly 10 per cent, or around twice the drop in industry funds, during the three months to the end of March. The coming together of falling markets, low-interest rates and economic fallout from COVID-19 is causing an income crisis for retirees, says Wayne Strandquist, president of the Association of Independent Retirees. Many self-funded retirees may have assets but they cannot get sufficient return to generate an income to live, Strandquist says. Most are relying on their reserves of cash. But the financial pressure is growing more desperate the longer it goes on.' With a fixed 6% return per annum the Rushton Diability Fund could be an option for you, for more information visit www.disabilityfund.com.au Full AFR article available here: https://cutt.ly/tyVNd8r
20.01.2022 "Dodgy care workers could be banned from even entering NDIS under proposed new powers as people with disabilities struggle under the coronavirus pandemic." It’s horrific to hear of stories like Anne Marie Smith being left in terrible living conditions but great to see the NDIS Minister taking positive action. We look forward to the day when all disabled people are treated with respect and dignity.
17.01.2022 BEING able to move out of an aged care facility and into his own apartment has been a "lifesaver" for 52-year-old Don Mortiss. The move, thanks to funding from the National Disability Insurance Scheme, has given Mr Mortiss more independence and a new lease on life. He is writing a memoir and back playing the French horn with hopes of joining a community band.... Mr Mortiss, who has Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, moved to a high needs independent living apartment in Springfield as part of MS Queensland's Best Life Project. The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety's interim report found there was a lack of will and effort to address the issues that have left young people in aged care. Commissioners found that "swift action" needed to be taken to fix the situation so that younger people with disabilities are able to live in the community and to speed up the process of getting them out of aged care facilities. 05.01.2022 With interest rates at historic lows, investing to generate enough income to fund a comfortable retirement has become a major challenge for many retirees. No longer can you park your cash in a fixed-interest term deposit and sit back and enjoy the ride. While investment income of 5-7 per cent a year have long been the norm, that's no longer the case. Retirees are facing lower interest rates for the forseeable future, with economic forecasts expecting a slow and prolonged reco...very for the Australian economy post pandemic. Still, many have not yet trimmed back expectations for their investment returns and income. The Rushton Disability Fund provides a fixed return of 6% per annum (1.5% per calendar quarter), with no volatility in unit values. For more information visit disabilityfund.com.au
