15.01.2022 If you have a Netflix subscription, make sure your take a look at the fabulous : documentary. It goes on a journey from a summer camp held in the US of the 1970s, where disabled teens got to really experience a life that was never readily accessible to them before, and follows them to where they self advocated to the highest levels of government, ultimately bringing about enormous changes in Civil Rights for the disability community. It was indeed a revolution orchestrated and run by the disability community for the disability community. Such an amazing story with incredible outcomes. It's a must watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRrIs22plz0

14.01.2022 Helen can highly recommend checking out the 'Musee Exterieur' art initiative on the streets of North Adelaide. What a fun way to explore the streets! "Musée Extérieur is a curated, outdoor art trail that winds through the beautiful and surprising spaces of Adelaide. The North Adelaide art trail was launched on Bastille Day, 14 July 2020 with ten artworks. It starts at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital, travelling along and around Melbourne Street, then heading to Tynte and... O’Connell Street, and finally finishing on the outskirts of the parklands at Lincoln College. The trail takes people on a big loop of North Adelaide with a focus on the businesses and places that people frequent, or places of historic and social importance. The overarching curatorial themes of Musée Extérieur are Community and Nature especially during the challenging times that COVID19 presents. Connection to community and the natural environment have become more important than ever. The art trail invites viewers to reimagine our familiar streets and connect with art, nature and community in all new ways. Every artwork in the collection is so different; from different art periods and moments in history, as such each piece presents something different - magnificence, humour, joy and revenants. Each piece asks the viewer to think about their surroundings and consider the part they might play within their community; whether through a gesture of kindness, consideration of our natural and home environments, or the simple act of a smile." Adelaide City Council picture descriptions: Helen wearing her blue baseball hat, patterned blue top and jeans is checking out some paste up art on various exterior walls on buildings in North Adelaide. She is smiling and laughing and interacting with the art works; even mimicking a shocked looking face in one of the pieces.
