25.01.2022 This hedge of Photina Robusta needed work. It took 7 hours to tame. It was to high for my ladders and plank. I had to climb onto the roof rack mounted on my truck.
24.01.2022 CLEAN MICROWAVE WITH LEMON Is that leftover chicken parmesan on the side of your microwave? Very appetizing! Don’t worry, you don’t need to spring for store-bought cleaners to spruce up the inside of your trusty microwave. All you need is a lemon. This trick will remove unsightly stains and caked-on food, and the best part is that it only takes five minutes! WHAT YOU'LL NEED:... Lemon, Sponge HOW TO: 1. Put 1 cup of water and a 5 lemon slices in a microwave-safe bowl. 2. Heat the bowl in the microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, or until boiling. 3. Wait two minutes before opening the microwave door. This is the most important part! Keeping the door closed will allow the steam to loosen food particles. Bonus: The lemon will also add a fresh scent to your kitchen. 4. Carefully remove the bowl of water and wipe down the inside of the microwave with a warm, damp sponge. The caked-on food and stains should come off easily.

24.01.2022 I thought to post a tip about another service we deliver, window and gutter cleaning. Window tracks are good at two things: 1. Making it possible to open a window. 2. Collecting insect corpses.... It's a nasty reality, and it'll gross people out if they see it. Here’s an easy way to clean up the dirt and insect...stuff from your window sills. Step 1: Pre-clean with a vacuum (optional). If your tracks are looking really bad, give them a once over with a vacuum attachment so you don't use a bajillion cotton buds in step two. Step 2: Dip the cotton bud tip in vinegar and run it along the nooks and crannies of your window tracks. Depending on how big your windows are (and how many windows you're cleaning today) you may need a bunch of cotton buds and a few fresh shot glasses. You want to have enough vinegar on the cotton buds so that it's kind of "runny" when you start cleaning each track. Tip: If your tracks are really gross and sticky (as in, this-is-the-first-time-you've-ever-cleaned-them, sticky) an old toothbrush might work better here. Step 3: Use the paper towels to mop up the vinegar and additional dirt and insect graves. You can press the back of your finger against the towel as you "mop" up the vinegar. If your tracks are too narrow for a finger, try using one of those nasty cotton buds. If you look at your window tracks and do not have the stomach to remove the corpses, contact us now to schedule a window clean in the first month of Spring with our low winter rates. We do commercial and residential window cleaning.
24.01.2022 THE FIVE BEST SMALL SPACE VEGETABLES TO GROW MOUNTAINS OF FOOD When growing a vegetable garden in a small space, square footage is precious when choosing which plants to grow. 24.01.2022 With Winter arriving this week, it is time to think about pruning the roses. We can assist with this task, but for those who want to do it themselves we have included a guide in the Newsletters and Tips page on our website http://modo.ly/2syqV8U Important: Do not prune roses until July as the plants require time to settle into the Winter dormancy period.
22.01.2022 March means the start of Autumn. The number of days with Higher temperatures will decrease. The days are already visible shorter. All deciduous plants will show change in leave color. This process is very important in the plant's lifecycle as it absorbs nutrients in the leave to store. March is the time to give your plants a good feeding with an organic fertilizer such as Dynamic Lifter. If you do not like the smell of this product, you can use the new liquid fertilizer prod...uced by Scott. Look for the one which lasts for a few months. Remember native plants require a fertilizer specific formulated for natives. An organic option of this is also available. Citrus should be fed a specialized citrus fertilizer not later than March. It is not good practice to prune deciduous plants until the leaves has dropped, especially roses. You can give evergreen plants a prune in Autumn. It is also a good time to prune citrus if you have to shape it. If you are into veggies, it is a good time to add compost to the soil while you wait for the cooler temperatures to sow the winter vegetables. Happy Autumn Gardening

20.01.2022 USE A RUBBER GLOVE TO REMOVE PET HAIR If you love your pet but are less enthusiastic about the hair they shed all over your house, we have a solution! You don’t have to banish your pet from furniture or the living room instead, try rubber gloves! This trick works better than lint rollers or tape, plus you can use the same gloves every time. Say goodbye to annoying pet hair! 1. Moisten the glove. You want your gloved hand to be moist but not wet. To make sure your glove isn’...t too wet, we recommend spritzing it with water instead of running it under a faucet. 2. Test your furniture. To make sure the water won’t ruin your furniture’s material, test the trick on a small area of the furniture (preferably on the back or bottom). 3. Grab the hair. If your test was successful, then it’s time to ditch the hair! Run your gloved hand over the surface of your furniture. The glove will give you much more control than a strip of tape and is far more effective than a balloon or tennis ball. Just make sure you rinse the glove periodically to avoid spreading the collected hair around.

17.01.2022 VEGETABLE COMPANION PLANTING Companion planting is the art of arranging your garden so that your plants are happier, healthier, and supportive of one another. Strange as it may seem, plants are very much like people. Certain varieties of plants get on very well with some others, while others can’t thrive if they’re planted next to each other.... Companion planting puts the plants that are friendly to each other together, which helps the plants with nutrient uptake from the soil, repels pests, and provides shade and protection from early frost. HOW DOES IT WORK? In basic companion planting, you can assess what a plant needs and choose a plant that is likely to be able to give it. For example, tomatoes need a lot of sun and grow tall, while carrots tender tops can be easily scorched by the sun, and don’t grow as tall as tomatoes. If you plant carrots with tomatoes, they will shade the carrots, and the sturdy roots of the carrots will help hold soil and moisture around the roots of the tomato plants. Another example of basic companion planting is traditional Native American companion planting. Corn is grown as a centerpiece and a climbing trellis for beans. Beans put nitrogen back in the soil, which the corn needs to flourish. Squash is added to the mix so that its large leaves will shade out weeds. NATURAL INSECT REPELLENT Some flowers like Nasturtium or Marigold can be used for their insect repellent qualities. Garlic and its relations can also be used to help repel insects from more tender plants. But be careful! Some plants don’t like stinky Mr. Garlic living next door to them. Plants with delicate flavors, such as peas or parsley can be overpowered by onions, garlic, and their relations. Just as beans add nitrogen to the soil for corn in the Native American companion planting trio, other plants also add nutrients that are beneficial to the neighbouring plants. Beets for example add minerals to the soil that aid leafy salad crops. Borage and lovage are two herbs that are the super helpful neighboring plants. Almost anything grown in their vicinity will benefit and be healthier and hardier as a result. COMPANION PLANTING CHART There are many charts available around the internet to help you plan your garden and give every vegetable the neighbors they’ll love. Attach is an infographic chart to help get you started:

14.01.2022 DOES YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER HAVE AMPLE INSURANCE? Your garden service man is mowing your lawn. The lawnmower structs a pebble and it shoots through your sliding door, breaking the glass. Who is paying for the damage? The garden service is liable of course. Can they afford to replace the glass?... It is important to check your service provider has insurance, both public liability (to cover personal injury to a third party) and risk insurance to cover damage to property of third party while delivering a service. It is important to ensure it is business insurance as most private policies will not cover damage caused while operating as a business. At Disa Garden & Domestic Services we have public liability and risk cover under a business insurance. We can provide Certificate of Currency on request.
13.01.2022 SIX TIPS TO MAKE WINDOW CLEANING EASIER 1. Buff Scratches with Toothpaste If you have tiny scratches in your glass, toothpaste can make them disappear (just make sure you grab a brand with baking soda). Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a soft cloth, then gently rub the scratch for about 30 seconds. Wipe it away with a clean cloth and kiss your scratch goodbye!... 2. Wash the Interior First Unless you have indoor rain, the outside of your windows is going to be a lot dirtier. To prevent nasty cleaning supplies (and potentially a new, inside mess), tackle the interior side of your windows first. 3. Use Coffee Filters Paper towels tend to leave a messy, cloudy shine. Use coffee filters instead! Due to their texture, they leave a streak-free shine. 4. Skip the Store-Bought Cleaner Instead of buying a cleaner at the store, make one at home by mixing equal parts vinegar and warm water. We recommend adding one cup of each ingredient at a time. The vinegar will break down any residue or grease on the surface of the window. 5. Choose a Cloudy Day If you pick a cloudy day to clean, your windows will look cleaner! This is because sunshine can actually cause streaks (the warmth dries the glass too quickly). 6. Don’t Ignore the Blinds Dust loves blinds like bees love honey. To keep dust from piling up immediately after you clean, use an antistatic spray (Static Guard is a good option) on the window blinds right after you clean them.

13.01.2022 OUR LANDSCAPING POINT OF DIFFERENCE We do not use standardized designs for your garden, neither do we use a standard list of plants. We first have a meeting with you to learn more about your personal preferences. This is very important to us as it impacts on the design principles we follow as well as the selection of plants we shall plant. We believe your garden must tell passers by something of you. Your garden must be unique and not look like every other garden in the neigh...borhood. We then compile a rough design. The design as well as the plants are discussed with yourself. This gives you the opportunity to include your favorite plants in the design. We then compile the detailed design which is discussed with you as well. We understand that you have worked hard for the money you want to spend on your garden. We therefore do not try to include "no maintenance gimmicks" which cost money and do not have the expected results in the long run. We are also prepared to work with your budget and can do landscaping work in phases over a few months. We guarantee the best value for money service. You will be surprised how much more we can offer for the same price as many other larger landscapers. Call us now to discuss your landscaping wishlist. We suggest you act fast as our diary for September and October are filling up fast.

05.01.2022 COLOR CODE YOUR KEYS With a little nail polish and just a few minutes of spare time, you can avoid fumbling for the right key once and for all! Color coding your keys will make them easily identifiable. My problem is to remember where I put them last! Here’s how:... 1. Remove your keys from their chain. 2. Select your nail polish colors and decide which key should be paired with each color. You can even try some clever color associations. Is your front door red? Paint your house key cherry. Have a garden shed? Paint it green for your garden. Pool key? Blue for water! 3. Paint a layer of nail polish over the top portion of your keys. If you go over an outline by accident, use a toothpick to remove any excess polish. 4. Let your nail polish completely dry and then apply a second coat until you can’t see the metal of the key underneath. 5. Once the keys are dry, put them back to your keychain, and that’s it!
03.01.2022 KILL WEEDS WITH HOUSEHOLD ITEMS You want to fight the weeds invading your yard, but store-bought weed killers can pack a serious chemical punch! Chemical weed killers can affect your plants in two ways: the chemicals can seep into the soil or the spray can waft over and land on your plants, where it kills them, too. This spring, try killing weeds with one of these household products! 1. Newspaper. ...Continue reading
