19.01.2022 2020 Australian Disc Golf Championships Cancelled After a few long chats with the ADGC Tournament Directors from Geelong Disc Golf, weve reached a mutual decis...ion to cancel the 2020 Australian disc golf championships. Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the restrictions followed, it was clear that, if it were to run at all, the nationals would be severely impacted: thered be a much smaller field, no (or very few) interstate players, no major sponsors, none of the communal gathering of disc golfers that have come to symbolise the nationals, and very little connection with the Inverleigh community. This last issue became the tipping point for the decision. For the Geelong Disc Golf Club and Inverleigh, it would have been an opportunity missed. One that wouldnt come around again for at least seven years. We reached a point where we feel that disc golf in Australia would be better served by running an alternate event this November and holding the next Australian championships in 2021 in Inverleigh. Planning is now underway for a nation-wide event involving tournaments run in different places across the country simultaneously. We will not be crowning any Australian Champions in 2020, but well still have a day that celebrates our sport.

14.01.2022 After a longer wait than we all wanted but perhaps a shorter one that we expected, it's time to start planning for a return to disc golf competition in Australi...a. We have prepared some documents to help you, your club and your friendly local tournament directors make this happen. Click on this link and you'll see, currently on the front page of the Aussie Disc Golf web page, the comprehensive return to play guidelines. By following these guidelines you can ensure you are fulfilling state, local government, PDGA, and ADG requirements for play. You can link this document in any communications you have with the local government responsible for your park so they can see the way that Australian Disc Golf is managing the risk of COVID-19. http://www.australiandiscgolf.com/covid-safe-return-to-pla/ To have your event sanctioned, simply complete the checklist that can be found here. http://www.australiandiscgolf.com//Checklist-for-ADG-sanct and return it to [email protected] One of the important steps in the checklist is to communicate to all players our new Social Distancing Rules of Play. You can find the document to send out to all of your participants here. http://www.australiandiscgolf.com//Social-Distance-Rules-f and besides that, without further ado, let the disc golf begin.

11.01.2022 We aren't too sure how Cassie Sweetten feels about us giving her the title 'Queen of Aussie Disc Golf' but we'll run with it until advised otherwise. The six-ti...mes Aussie champ is heading overseas soon to compete in the United States Women's Disc Golf Chamoionships. https://2019uswdgc.com/ in Spotsylvania, Virginia, USA this September 19-22. Innova have provided her with a tour disc. We hear there are a few left. so send her a PM if you are interested. The design was mostly inspired by Cassie's love of Mandala designs, the fact she thinks owls are cool and that she'd be out there practicing day and night if she could. It took her husband and talented graphic designer Jarrath Sweetten, 6-weeks to complete the design. All the best Cass, Aussie Disc Golf will be following yours and travel buddy Toosje Frequin's progress with interest.

05.01.2022 On August 12, 2002, surrounded by his family, his friends, and wife Farina, Ed Headrick passed away at his home in Santa Cruz County. If you knew Ed Headrick or... if you ever have thrown a Frisbee or played Disc Golf, please join all of us here at DGA in a virtual toast to celebrate the life of Ed Headrick, the father of Disc Golf, the Modern-day Frisbee and our friend. ---- Ed Headrick (Steady Ed), was the father of disc golf and the modern-day Frisbee. In 1976, Steady Ed Headrick and his son Ken Headrick started the first disc golf company, DGA (Disc Golf Association). The purpose of DGA was to manufacture discs and targets and to formalize the game of disc golf by developing the first standardized catching basket (US Patent #4,039,189), which he called the Disc Pole Hole. In order to focus on creating the rules and standards for the sport and game as well as to create a self-sufficient dues-paying membership base, Headrick began the PDGA, the Professional Disc Golf Association, and was PDGA member #001. Through the PDGA, Headrick and fellow disc golfers like Victor Malafronte worked to come up with the first rules and standards, which were printed out in small binders. Ed headed the PDGA until 1982 before turning the daily operations over to be run independently by an elected body of disc golf players. Ed continued to run DGA and participate in tournaments up until 2002 when he suffered two strokes while attending the Professional Disc Golf Association 2002 Amateur World Championships in Miami, FL. He was able to get a medical flight back to his home in La Selva Beach, California, outside of Santa Cruz, where he passed away soon afterward. As per Ed Headricks wishes, his ashes were incorporated into a limited number of discs. The discs were given to friends and family and the limited remaining discs are for sale with all proceeds going to a 501 c(3) nonprofit to fund the Steady Ed Memorial Disc Golf Museum at the PDGA International Disc Golf Center in Appling, Georgia. Rest in peace Ed!
