25.01.2022 Mosquito reminder If you're heading out of the house, particularly to camp or fish at the beach, river or lakeside, make sure you know how to protect yoursel...f from mosquitoes. They can transmit serious diseases, including Ross River virus. Before you head out, take a few steps to Beat the Bite: Make sure you have fly screens. Purchase an insecticide product for extra protection. Use mosquito repellent containing picaridin or DEET. For kids, spray or rub it on their clothes rather than onto their skin. Remember to reapply after swimming - it's not water resistant. Wear loose-fitting clothing when you're outside, make sure it covers your arms and legs because mosquitoes can bite through tight-fitting clothes. Wear a loose hat, mosquitoes can often bite your scalp! Mozzie-borne diseases cause joint pain and stiffness, headaches, fever, rashes and fatigue. If you experience symptoms, see a doctor or call 1300 60 60 24 For more information, watch the video below, provided by the Better Health Channel or visit betterhealth.vic.gov.au/beat-the-bite. 21.01.2022 The Loch Sport Business & Tourism Association fully support our local CRG in this matter. We would welcome being involved in a meeting of the kind Colin suggests. Colin Robert Johnson to Loch Sport Notice Board Yesterday at 08:57 ... To all Loch Sport Residents: After what we have seen with the devastation to Victoria and NSW, now is the time to take control of our own threats we face with fire. Loch Sport has long been treated as if there is no threat here, yet we are a community with one road in and one road out. The fire break on the road has slowly crept in over the years and there is thick scrub under power lines at various locations. There are trees that would fall directly across the power lines resulting in power black outs. We need to be proactive and not reactive. Maintaining road access is critical as we have an elderly population, some not capable of leaving by boat. I would like to see the CRG take control of this and organize a town meeting with Delwp, Vic Roads, Parks and our local members - Alan Hall and Darren Chester. It is totally unacceptable that Loch Sport Residents and Visitors be placed at risk because certain departments are not doing their job. The fire break along the road is not being maintained as it should and we as a town need that to change. This will only happen if we make enough noise, so lets do something about this as Summer has just begun. I have always stated Loch Sport punches above its weight so now is the time to do something. If it is required we will get the media involved, but we must change this. I will also add our local CFA do a great job but it is not there responsibility to maintain road access.
