16.01.2022 GREAT VICTORIAN RAIL TRAIL ICONS The Great Victorian Rail Trail Official is a whopping 134km of thrilling possibilities, but you don't need to be a weekend warrior to enjoy the best of it. We've got a few suggestions to whet your appetite of some of our favourite highlights located along the Murrindindi portion of the trail - scenic lookouts, historical relics, quaint towns and open countryside. Highlights on 2 wheels and 2 or 4 legs ... BEST LOOKOUT The Eglinton Cutting Lookout above Alexandra is one of the best we think, looking over the expanding valley below and the peaks beyond. It's a uphill trail from Alexandra through farmland but don't worry, there’s a good picnic bench at the top so you can recharge before enjoying the downhill on the way home. BEST HISTORIC OOOH MOMENT Hands down the Cheviot Tunnel. You can drive directly to this one a short distance outside of Yea or make a day of it heading up to the tunnel from Yea itself. It's constructed from around 675,000 handmade bricks from a local clay pit and is 201m long - practice your cooee if you head up there! It's dark in there too when you’re in the middle... BEST CREATURE COMFORT OPTION Start out from Yarck in either direction as far as you wish then drop into one of the great cafes or the pub in Yarck for some creature comforts. BEST PLACE TO COOL YOUR FEET EN-ROUTE Molesworth Recreation Reserve just off the trail is a good spot to relax (you can camp here too) and dip your feet in the Goulburn River - can be fast flowing so be careful! BONUS - If you head off the trail in Molesworth you'll find the picturesque Molesworth Christ Church Anglican Church nestled amongst the trees along the Goulburn Valley Highway! Access - Yea, Molesworth, Yarck and Alexandra are all good access points to the trail. www.greatvictorianrailtrail.com.au ENJOY!
