23.01.2022 It's the time of year for Kite Surfing and Wind Surfing in Shark Bay. Nicholson Point on the outskirts of Denham is a popular spot or you can belt along Nettas Beach on the Denham Foreshore like this cool video shows (we can't guarantee the local emus will be on hand to watch!). This time of year the prevailing southerly will blow consistently, until it doesn't..... #kitesurfing #windsurfing #wanderoutyonder Australia's Coral Coast

19.01.2022 It's almost nesting time for these cool dudes Did you know that Ningaloo is one of the world's major breeding areas for sea turtles and during nesting season ...(late-November to March), you can find green and loggerhead turtles making their way up the beaches to lay their eggs we all know how special and vulnerable turtles are, so if you're going to be in the area during nesting season or hatching season (February to April), we recommend joining a guided night tour from Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia's Jurabi Turtle Centre. Not only will you have the best opportunity to see these incredible creatures in their natural environment, but you'll actively help to conserve them and support crucial research. The Centre is open year-round, and guided tours run from December to March. In the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Turtle Bay at Dirk Hartog Island is another important breeding site. Here, you can find the largest loggerhead breeding colony in Australia.com Loggerheads are the most endangered species of sea turtle in the world, making this site even more significant. If you're planning to #WanderOutYonder to experience the turtle nesting or hatching seasons, make sure to read the Turtle Watcher's Code of Conduct before you go to ensure you have a safe and sustainable interact. https://bit.ly/coralcoastturtles Jake Wilton Photo Visit Ningaloo - Ningaloo Visitor Centre, Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre, Western Australia

19.01.2022 On this day in 1941 the greatest Naval disaster in Australian history took place off the coast of Steep Point in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The Shark Bay Discovery & Visitor Centre is home to the 'Fire on the Water' exhibition. The 15 minute 3D film and accompanying exhibit tell the story of the battle between HMAS Sydney II and HSK Kormoran, tracing the events of this World War II Naval battle. Astonishing deep-sea 3D imagery from the 2015 expeditions to the wreck sites,... undertaken by WA Museum, Curtin University and DOF Subsea have been used to create an interpretative timeline of the battle and to offer insights into what happened when the ships met off Shark Bay 79 years ago. The exhibit is permanent, free and screens every half hour during the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre's opening hours. In collaboration with WA Museum Boola Bardip, 'Fire on the Water' is part two of an historical maritime trail which begins with 'From Great Depths' at the Museum of Geraldton, commemorating this significant Australian Naval disaster.

10.01.2022 This sextant (on the left) was recently found buried on a property along the Denham foreshore in W.A . Upon cleaning the brass we were able to find a manufacturers stamp which allowed us to trace the maker to a London based company called "Troughton" and a possible manufacturing year in the 1790's, which looked like the one on the right when new. Talk about your original "Siri", I don't think I could have gotten out of the harbour!! ... Thank you to finder Mark and researcher and restorer Shayne. #wayfinding #howdidIgethere #wayfinding
