25.01.2022 I just found a new reason to come and stay in Lithgow- the old Pottery place runs awesome arty events and concerts. I will aim to share their events as they come up so watch this space!- alas i only found out about todays blacksmithing course right now I would have loved doing that. https://www.facebook.com/events/291204581924673/?ti=icl
24.01.2022 pics from todays amazing walk with Yuri Bolotin near Mountain Lagoon, Blue Mountains. These are the Psychadelic Caves and Nirvana Caves.
24.01.2022 still here for now but its not looking fabulous- definitely closed for business this week!
23.01.2022 classic Aussie humour
20.01.2022 Evans Crown Nature Reserve at nearby Tarana
20.01.2022 exciting news - a very rare tree which has been known to only flower perhaps once in 80 years and of whcih there are so few world wide, HAS FLOWERED!!!- right here in the Blue Mountains at our faous Mount Tomah Botanic Garden. Most likely the fires and extremely eratic weather conditions have convinced this tree that itsnow or never - read about it here: https://www.bluemountainsbotanicgarden.com.au//A-rare-flow and then COME AND SEE IT!!! ... I love the botanic garden there they have the most amazing display of proteaceae For the perfect weekend inthe Blue Mountains, visit the garden, then pop just up the road to Pie In The Sky for the most awesome pies. Then a quick stop into Hillbilly Cider to try some freshly made cider made from local apples and grab a 6-pack for the rest of the weekend. Next stop is Mount Wilson for an afternoon of drowning in the bliss of autumn colours either strolling the streets or through one of the elaborate English gardens (great spot for selfies!!!). Then enjoy a spectacular light show of the suns rays hitting the famous reddish orange cliffs of the mighty Grose Valley as you drive along Bells Line of Road for your nights accommodation in Lithgow. Crack open a cider after dinner and sit and watch a billion stars before flaking out to the best quietest nights sleep youve ever had. But wait...... theres more. Lithgow is the perfect destination for exploring the Blue Mountains. We are the gateway to exploring the Wollemi National Park, Newnes and Glen Davis both infamous for their histric ruins, Jenolan Caves, Dunns Swamp, and the key tourist attractions of the upper Blue Mountains (minus the crowds of staying in Katoomba!!). As you head back towards Sydney or beyond there is almost noend of wonderful places to enjoy.
20.01.2022 view from the guest room this morning
19.01.2022 another trip to Hill End- so much to photograph, cant wait until next autumn
18.01.2022 due to covid i have been providing all guests with their own new soap bar - i just discovered this place on ebay that sells off cut slices of their exotic luscious hand made soap bars so now all my guests will get their own little soap treat and no two are the same- each i dividually wrapped like a little piece of fudge. what a great idea and saves me discarding so mych soap.
17.01.2022 my suggestion for seeing the best of the Blue Mountains in one weekend/2 day stay: from Sydney CBD-depart 8am, drive up Bells Line of Road. 9:30am- stop for coffee at Pie in the Sky. http://pieintheskybilpin.com.au/about/ 10:00am - stop at Bilpin for Hillbilly Cider, https://hillbillycider.com.au/, picking your own apples, treats from the Grumpy Baker http://www.thegrumpybaker.com.au/bilpin and selfies amidst trees bursting with Autumn colour. ... 11:30 - visit Mt Tomah Botanic Garden with its elaborate display of Proteaceae....enjoy your treats , a picnic, or lunch at their cafe. https://www.instagram.com/bluemountainsbg/ 2:30pm- visit Mount Wilson Gardens for a tour through the colour laden streets and walking paths or a tour through an English garden. https://m.facebook.com//Mount-Wilson-Blue-Mountains-NSW-A/ 5:30pm - sunset photos at Hassans Walls lookout in Lithgow then on to my place just down the road. Next day: Sunrise photos if youre keen! Enjoy a light breakfast here or the worlds best muffins at my favourite local cafe. Then visit either Jenolan Caves, Newnes, or the Glow Worm Tunnel. (each is a one hour drive from here and good for 3-4 hours of exploration). Then as you head back South via the Great Western Highway stop at the Talisman Gallery at Hartley, https://m.facebook.com/Talisman-Gallery-Hartley-196753030335960/ then enjoy afternoon reddish glows upon the rocks of the Three Sisters at Katoomba. Next on to Leura Cascades for a quick selfie and then back to Sydney. The Blue Mountains is open again!! - the fire threat is over. Come and experience how resilient nature is - see the regrowth adding colour and new life-photography right now is amazing. The birds are back, walks are open, Mount Wilson is OPEN, its back to business here.
17.01.2022 a documentary on the fire that nearly got the house and burnt inconceivable amounts of beautiful national parklands https://www.facebook.com/753706091/posts/10158687045136092
17.01.2022 I found a new amazing spot for sunrise pics just 20 minutes from my house...... this is at a lookout at Mount Victoria, next to where the speed camera is.

15.01.2022 Lithgow looking even more beautiful than before
14.01.2022 My half day tour down to Newnes to show some tourists the kangaroos- we saw hundreds and wombats up close and personal too.
14.01.2022 late afternoon bliss at my favourite place at Capertee.
11.01.2022 Today was my first adventure day exploring The Lost City. We took the southern access road which begins right near Dobbs Drift. The road as you can see from the... photo, ends up being very bad so we walked the last 500 metres. There is a trail down to the old pump station ruins but to then get down to the river to get to the dams is extremely scrubby and no formal for about 95% of the walk. stay tuned for more trips and more pics soon.......
10.01.2022 Another trip to the Glow Worm tunnel, another magical memorable encounter with mother nature - this Lyrebird was way too busy getting grubs to bother about us
09.01.2022 art classes anybody??? This looks good - I have accommodation free that night and the next day/night https://www.facebook.com/events/269047207876742/?ti=icl
07.01.2022 Blue Mountains botanic garden earlier this week
07.01.2022 just a couple of kilometres from homeand an easypeasy one hour walk is Ida Falls - the falls weren't realy happening today so not many pics but I have a spot lined up there for an amazing photo the next time we get a deluge of rain so stay tuned.....
07.01.2022 What a day - had an absolute blast today taking a tour group of just 2 through the glow worm tunnel and Dry Canyon. Just when we thought the day couldnt have been better we encountered a group of 8 brumbies.
06.01.2022 earlier this week I finally ticked something off the bucket list - a trip to Hill End. The place is simpky amazing, like stepping through the stargate and arriving in 1851. Every house and structure is seemingly original condition. Everything in sight is old, and in keeping with the towns gold mining heritage. It is simply amazing! I didnt get to go through the museum as it was closed but there is a great old rustic shed full of old horse drawn carts in incredible condition... and an original cobb and co coach that looks like it was hand made yesterday. We spent ages photographing all this neat stuff then did a drive around the town. I simply cant wait to go back for more photos and to have a go at gold prospecting. The town would look amazing during autumn so I think Ill be spending next Autumn there for photos instead of my usual Mount Wilson. Here are just a few pics......
06.01.2022 Dunns Swamp trip, near Rylstone in the Wollemi National Park
05.01.2022 stuff this weather we battled the elements and had an AWESOME local adventure- so much colour, patterns, caving, canyoning. Lithgow area is so spectacular
05.01.2022 what is really wide, really rocky, full of cracks, prehistoric, mindblowingly beautiful and lies just 3 km from Lithgow train station? PAGODA HEAVEN!!! YOU can do the easy grade 1.5km walk to enjoy this magnificent vista for yourself. The walk follows a slow trickling creek lined with beautiful lush ferns squeezed between towering pagoda walls with slots and cavey bit s to explore and each with its own panorama and adventure. The walk could not be easier and leads to a trail... which leads to another trail, more pagodas, more trails, more pagodas!!! come visit and I will take you there and beyond, there is still so much I want to explore near my home........
04.01.2022 morning views at Hassans Walls lookout, Lithgow - the highlight was seeing a Lyrebird and enjoying listening to him repeatedly belt out around 20 different bird calls.
04.01.2022 Nature has been busy replenishing with plenty of rain and restoration is underway..... some areas are looking more colourful with the sudden burst of regrowth. Here are a few recent photos....
04.01.2022 The aboriginal site Blackfellows Hand cave on the way to Newnes. The pagodas there are fabulous to explore and are line the road so easy access. Great news- that huge hole in the road has been filled so anybody can drive up to the pagodas now and barricades have been put up to stop the damage previously being done by aholes riding their trail bikes all over the walking trails and up into the pagodas.
03.01.2022 my recent visit to Mount Tomah Botanic Garden
03.01.2022 yesterday i dropped into a few places at Bilpin for a wee self-indulgence. First stop was The Grumpy Baker for a Chicken and Harissa pie - omg, yum! Next door was this amazing wooden horse sculpture in a newly opened pet/stock feed and hardware store. Then i went to Hillbilly Cider ( loved the decor!). Found an amazing spot for photos across the Grose Valley, and discovered the man made hut thing near Du Faurs Rocks is in fact a pagoda eroded by the wind ie: all natural stay tuned for some photos from Du Faurs.....
02.01.2022 heres my new deck - hoping i get to finish it off painted and all before it burns down
02.01.2022 Ida Falls in Lithgow
