25.01.2022 Every year the Mayor thanks some of those in our community who selflessly give of their time and vision to serve our community. It was a great morning when 10 of the foodstop team saw our wonderful Helen Parsons recognised for over 9 years of dedication in leading the team that provides meals on the street every Thursday night. Around 150 people joined to thank 8 individuals for their dedicated services, enjoyed breakfast and were encouraged by Tim Costello. #DiscoveryCommunityCare #NationalDayOfThanks #MayoralBreakfast #foodstop #MovingCloser #ThankingGod #ThankingEachOther

23.01.2022 A huge thanks to Pinchapoo who have not only supplied us with toiletries for our clients, but have given us pamper packs for our volunteer teams.

22.01.2022 Finally, after over 18mths of dreaming, research, planning permit applications and negotiations our build has started! We will be adding progress photos to this album to document this new chapter for Discovery Community Care. Thank you to all who have supported our vision in prayer, finance, materials and volunteer hours. We are so grateful!

21.01.2022 We've attended a Council Community Planning Meeting, learning what the people of LILYDALE want to see happen in their town. We want to know how can we be involved adnd how can Discovery Community Care can better serve our local community. #DiscoveryCommunityCare #MovingCloser

19.01.2022 Lots of fun and learning during our first DCC pop up cooking session as Lillie Giang (TheFoodAffectionist) showed us how to make an incredible array of meals from reclaimed fruit and vegetables. We appreciate the support of Asian Inspirations, Second Bite and Outer East Foodshare for making this possible.

19.01.2022 The Kids at Discovery Church really enjoyed participating in the Bring A Bag Initiative! If your organisation, school or club would like to know how you can support Bring A Bag, drop this page a message. #BringABag #MovingCloser #community

15.01.2022 We absolutely love it when clients have found their next best step and share it with us. One of our regulars has just gained their qualifications and obtained a paid position where they did their placement. They were so excited to share their good news with us, thanking us for our support over the last few years, both physically with food and emotionally with encouragement and chats, over the last few years. We are just so excited for them! #DiscoveryCommunityCare #MovingCloser #NextBestStep

15.01.2022 One of the most heartwarming and encouraging signs that the team at Discovery Community care has seen over the years is we have noticed that it’s not just the food that the people coming to us appreciate. it is just as much the listening ear and encouragement the team provide too. So many times we receive a word of thanks, an expression of appreciation, that someone has heard their story, not judged them and encouraged them to make positive decisions in the future. #DiscoveryCommunityCare #MovingCloser

12.01.2022 It's so great when people we assist share their expertise and ideas with us. Zucchini spaghetti the healthy alternative to pasta. Thanks for the demonstration, such fun!

11.01.2022 Thank you Discovery Church!

09.01.2022 Every year Discovery Community Care provides fresh fruit and veggies to over 350 local families in need.

08.01.2022 Thanks so much Kurt from Global Confectionery - who dropped off a pallet load of goodies to us. Such great treats will be a perfect addition to our clients bags.

06.01.2022 ***BRUCE*** has been living in his car for a couple of years. He has been offered accommodation in a boarding house but due to mental health challenges knows that he would not be able cope in a setting of close proximity to other people. With no storage or cooking facilities, maintaining a healthy diet is difficult. BRUCE comes in regularly for small amounts of fresh produce and cooks his meal on one of the barbecues in the park. We have encouraged BRUCE to place his name on the housing list and assisted him with ringing the housing office to obtain the paper work and fill it in when he received it. #DCCStories #MovingCloser

06.01.2022 A big thanks to Nando’s Lilydale for their generosity in supplying us with cooked chickens to use in the meals we give to people seeking food assistance.

06.01.2022 TastyAz, (a local community based catering and hospitality business that provides specialist training and experience for young people living with disabilities), is moving as their kitchen has been sold. They very kindly offered Discovery Community Care the choice of commercial grade kitchen material they would not be taking with them. We now have a wonderful deep sink and 2 benches to add to our Foodstop kitchen! Thanks Jules and the team at TastyAz and thanks to Jim Colverson for taking out the sink and benches for us!

04.01.2022 Discovery Community Care would love it if you could support this initiative by Neighbourhood.Discovery to make or donate masks for our clients. If you can help out email [email protected] to arrange drop off arrangements. Thank you

04.01.2022 Sue Colverson attended an Emergency Relief Network meeting this week. These meetings are a valuable opportunity for the Yarra Ranges ER Agencies to get together bringing ideas, proven methods and much needed peer support.

04.01.2022 Thanks to our Careworks Grant we have been able to purchase eggs. To support local and make sure every dollar went further we bought from a local farm!

02.01.2022 We love to hear the stories from our COACH mentees on how having an unbiased, friendly person has added value to their lives. We have heard how having that person walking beside them has given them the courage to take an extra step toward, getting a job, moving house or starting to study. Many are once again setting goals in life with a real chance of realizing them. Such encouraging and inspiring stories of hope coming alive when it seemed impossible!

01.01.2022 Exciting progress! Rooms are taking shape.
