21.01.2022 This week is Child Protection Week. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well, children need to feel safe and loved; have a chance to play and explore; have a say in decisions that affect them; and have access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. For children to thrive we need to come together as a community and put childrens needs first during National Child Protection Week and every week. ... Discovery is committed to child safety, our Child Safety Commitment Statement outlines how we protect the children in our care. We encourage all families and the communities we work in to put childrens safety and wellbeing first. napcan.org.au/national-child-protection-week/

18.01.2022 Ongoing learning from our live theatre at Alexander Beetle House. The children wanted to act out our Acknowledgment to Country. The children continue to experiment to see what they can create.

18.01.2022 The Tadpole room from Alexander Beetle House have been doing a lot of cooking over the past few weeks. We decided to go on an excursion to Banjos to find some inspiration on future cooking experiences. Off we went with a pram full of excited children. As soon as we got to Banjos the children noticed the scrolls in the cabinet and formed a connection with the scrolls that Ali sometimes makes us for afternoon tea. We also noticed vanilla slice, Chocolate slice and muffins. It was great to get back out into the community and remake those connections. Thanks to Banjos for our baby chinos, they were yummy.

18.01.2022 Illara - Science week at Launch into Learning Dominic College

17.01.2022 Across the service at Launceston Early Learning all the educators and children have been looking at Reconciliation Week as we continue to embed Aboriginal perspective and culture into all aspects of our day. In the Bottle Brush room the children and educators have been singing our Acknowledgement of Country. The children are enjoying moving to the music and are interested in the actions performed by the Educators. In the Waratah Room the children have been exploring Aboriginal... art , looking at a variety of art. The children have been doing some paintings, exploring the colours of the Aboriginal Flag. They have also done some hand prints, which feature throughout aboriginal paintings across the whole of Australia. As we have used the colours of the flag we have talked about the significance of the colours , black for the people, red for the land and yellow for the sun , all important cultural areas for the Aboriginal people. Illawarra and Gumtree have worked together on their understanding of Reconciliation. They have been painting their feet in a representation of the walk for reconciliation held 20 years ago in the year 2000. They are also looking at the colours of the Aboriginal flag in their art work. Banksias Reconciliation journey has also incorporated understanding of the colours of the Aboriginal flag and they have also looked at the colours of the Torres Strait Islander Flag . The children have used the Flags as a starting point for their own art works using those colours. After reading the dream time story "How the Birds got Their Colours" the children made their own puppets and reenacted the story for their peers. They have also been learning about Managleena and what life was like for the Aboriginal people before white man came to Tasmania. On their first day together the Wattle group read about the saving of the Mala and how they could help protect our land as well as making hearts in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag. the children learnt what these colours signified to the aboriginal people . Many of the children shared this new knowledge with their parents at pick up time. We all enjoyed using pencils to explore the colours of the Torres Strait Island flag and the Aboriginal flag. By participating in this experience outside within the natural environment we were also able to develop and explore our connection to the land. See more

12.01.2022 At Discovery Ulverstone, in the Red Room, we enjoy exploring our emotions and the strategies we can use to regulate ourselves throughout our program. Leading up to ‘r u ok? Day’ we discussed strategies of what we can do to help ourselves or others feel better. We then decided it would be a great idea to share these with our local community. Our whole room as well as our support dog Charlie, set off on a walk today, delivering care packs into mail boxes. The packs included some of our favourite song lyrics, bubbles, chocolate, pencils, conversation starters and a sweet little message . All of these items being ones that we like to use to assist when we’re not feeling ok. We hope by sharing our strategies and tools with others, this will help them when they’re not feeling ok too.
