22.01.2022 According to a study caffeine can promote early bladder urgency and frequency of peeing for up to 20 hours after consuming it for some women. Eek. Nobody wants that. What most people want is the enjoyment and escapism of a lovely warm and comforting cup of coffee.... The good news is that such bladder response to caffeine is individual. Not everybody has it. So, if youre suspecting that your much loved java is interfering with your bladder control, instead of going cold turkey giving it up, eliminate it for a week to see if that makes a difference. Based on your findings you can then decide if you need to or want to give up coffee for better bladder control. 21.01.2022 You may think that the worst thing you could do for tight pelvic floor muscles is exercise since it can tighten things even further. And you’d be right! If tight pelvic floor muscles try to exercise things can get worse. So it's an unwise cause of action to push on. And it’s NOT because pelvic floor exercises are harmful. It’s rather because it’s the body’s PROTECTIVE reaction. But! These muscles are still weak and in need of exercise to regain optimal condition. Unfortunatel...y, they’re unable to move and often frozen like a baby mammoth in Siberia. They need manual therapy to soften their tightness enough to start movement that can keep them mobile and in good condition. Just think of the cause of action you’d take if your neck were super tight. You’d apply warmth, massage, conscious relaxation, and movement. Have you ever wondered if its normal and why is it happening? The full and uncomfortable feeling mostly comes from a combination of bloating, water retention, and extra gas, although the uterus slightly increases in size as well due to more blood flow and the increased thickness of its lining.... The feelings of heaviness and pressure are no surprise when we take into account that at this time of the cycle the pelvic floor muscles are NOT on top of their game due to hormonal changes. This can also be signaled by bladder leakage. Here are some pointers to ease the situation: Take it easy all around. Rest with your feet up when you can. Sit down for tasks, when possible. Elevate your bum above the level of your heart with a pillow or a folded blanket when youre lying down relaxing. Apply my How to Raise Your Pelvic Floor Energy technique (to be found as a Blog article on my website). Avoid constipation. Avoid holding back wind for too long. Wear loose clothing around your abdomen. Lighten your exercise load. Popped up one of 10 Discreetly Fit training tracks to do my pelvic floor exercises. I chose our base training, as its still my favourite and requires my full concentration. I got into the position that best fits my mood and went for it. In doing so I didn't only practice self-care but I was also able to completely switch off my anxiety for 10 minutes. 10.01.2022 If you want to demolish your front door as you get home to get to the loo quicker to pee then here is how to get rid of that annoyance. It might not be an overnight fix, but it works! If you have other magical tips that work for you please comment below. Empty the bladder before leaving for home. When you get home, sit in the car a little longer and relax. Soften your tummy. Breath slow. If you have any reading material handy, distract your mind with it or turn on the rad...io. If you get an urge firmly tell your bladder, Forget it, it's not time to empty, you can NOT be full just yet. Allow the urge to pass through you. Its just a signal. Walk to the door, stand tall, and continue tummy relaxation and calm breathing. If you experience urgency, contract, and hold your pelvic floor for 15 seconds. You can also try to curl your toes, stretch your calves, grab your fanny or press on your pubic bone firmly until the urge diminishes. Stay relaxed. Open the door and distract yourself with some other activity than going to the loo. Think whats coming next as you are turning the key be inside already and plan what task to do next, e.g. get the clothes off the line. 08.01.2022 Here is a super important self-care technique, that's best not to go under the radar. The pelvic floor muscles are responsible for the condition and function of multiple areas. One of which is the bum-hole. The bum-hole or the anus is the end of the digestive system. Its responsible for bowel emptying and to stop poop and gas from leaving at inappropriate times. You can say its a muscle of high etiquette. The anus can be impacted by the weakness of the pelvic floor muscles... and other disturbing ailments like herpes, cancer, warts and fissures, all of which are best detected early. When your pelvic floor muscles weaken the anus may experience glitches in function. This means hick ups in continence (wind/bowel waste), bowel emptying, haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse and rectocele. In Australia bowel incontinence affects up to 20% and up to 12.9% of women. (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report, 2006). So, inspecting the anus (you will need a handheld mirror for this - yippee!!!) is not only important to detect early signs of weakness, but also the above mentioned conditions. When your anus is in top form, its hard to touch, like when you pull your lips into a tight ring. It also points upwards or inwards, even if you do a squat, much like when you pinch a cloth and lift it up. It's free from any lumps, bumps, deformations, protrusions and bleeding bits. It's only nature's harmless play if one of the fold lines is a little larger. If you find anything even mildly concerning please discuss it with your medical practitioner. Luckily, the back passage responds to specific pelvic floor exercises with better condition, so bowel control can become stronger, bowel emptying more efficient, prolapse may be prevented and some haemorrhoid issues can resolve or improve. 06.01.2022 Although this is a silly and amusing story from my angle, it highlights the desperate need for sustainable sanitation around the globe for all, alongside clean water, and handwashing facilities to stop the spread of disease. Ok so I was exploring the outback of Egypt with friends eons ago. We've ended up in a small village in scorching heat with an overdue need to pee.... After some searching, we've found the only publicly available toilet in a 50km radius. At that point it became very quickly and painfully apparent that to use it, we needed to make a 15 metre long journey in a murky fluid with cigar like objects floating alongside used toilet paper. (I won’t go into describing the smell and flies as I don’t want to lose you as a page follower.) Then IF we've made it to the loo, there will be no door, no seat, no paper, and no chance to flush. Here are some nibblets that may help: Perform regular pelvic floor exercises. They help with improved vaginal elasticity, lubrication, and relaxation, better organ positioning, circulation, overall vaginal condition, and confidence. Your partner is highly unlikely to receive less pleasure during intimacy because of your prolapse. If your prolapse is mild to moderate your satisfaction should remain intact as well. Juice things up! Use excellent quality and an abundant amount of lubrication. Find your best position. Use positions where you are in control of speed, penetration and can stop if things hurt e.g.: reverse missionary, spooning on your sides facing away. Women with bladder prolapse find relief from facing down positions for example hands-and-knees. Elevating the pelvis with pillows in the missionary position can help uterine prolapse to retract.
