At first it seemed crazy to think that spending more money makes you the winner but then I read more of Dans work and it became clear to me that what he is actually trying to say is genius. So many business owners think that price is tied to product. But what Dan (and some other smart cookies) saw was that price is co...mpletely seperate from product. In fact, price for a product can be varied if you just vary the context. Find a way to sell your product for more, to the people that can afford it and that leaves you more margin to spend acquiring new customers to buy more products. It is so simple it is genius. 23.01.2022 Bot Blocking and what Wordpress Update 5.3 Means for Your Website? For a long time, Search Engine Marketers were encouraged to publish as many content rich pages of their website as possible. Keyword stuffing was standard practice and link building from any site possible was the norm. These days, a good Search Engine Optimisation strategy is much more methodical and it is actually good practice for marketers to block pages from being indexed by the Google Search Bot. Basical...ly Google is like a really big index of all the pages on the internet. When you reach for something, the Google bot doesnt crawl the websites to find you an answer, it goes through its index. So if a page isnt indexed it doesnt show up in the search results. But why would you want to block pages from Google? There are numerous reasons; Duplicate content that you dont want google to see such as the print version of a page, Gated content that you want people to go through a process to find rather than accessing it straight from a google search or, Pages that have no content, such as a thank you page that pops up after a customer has made a purchase on your site. Recently Wordpress announced that they would be updating their software to make it easier for developers to block google bots and this is exciting. Prior to update 5.3 the standard practice for Wordpress users wanting to block a page from indexing was to use Robots.txt. The idea around using the Robots.txt blocking feature was that you could stop Google from downloading the webpage so Google wouldnt be able to show your page in the search results. The issue with this is that the Robots.txt. wasnt consistently effective. And that is what makes this update so exciting. As of version 5.3, Wordpress will be upgrading to the more effective Robots Meta Tag blocking approach. This means that when you block a page, it will definitely be blocked from showing in Googles search results. Which is the whole point. 08.01.2022 Instagram stops promoting IGTV. Whether or not you were using IGTV, Instagram has now removed the IGTV button next to the direct messaging button. This is simply because it wasn't getting any clicks. IGTV was meant to compete with YouTube but it has been rather unsuccessful. However, their 'stories' feature is still working quite well.... 05.01.2022 Zombie SEO - The Outdated SEO Practices You Must Give Up Now Search Engine Optimisation is an ever evolving practice, and if you want to keep your website in poll position, you need to change with the times. Despite this, many marketers are still using archaic SEO techniques that should be dead but for some reason arent (zombie SEO - bad practices that just wont die). Not only do these tricks not work, in some cases they can actually be detrimental to a sites ranking, cau...sing damage to your brand, website and even other digital properties. If you are still employing any of the following techniques, you need to stop now. 1. Abusing Your Keywords We all know by now that keyword stuffing (cramming as many keywords onto a page as possible) is yesterdays trickery but there are so many other ways that marketers are abusing keywords and calling it SEO. Since the Panda Update back in 2011, Google has been working hard to develop its algorithm beyond ranking websites merely based on keywords. Now Google focus as much on intent and user experience as they do on keywords as a ranking metric. It is still important to do your keyword research but the optimal density for keywords now is only 0.5 - 2.5%. Any more than this and you might actually find yourself penalised by Google. 2. Not Checking Your Links Broken links are not just bad for user experience, they are also bad for your SEO. Google now considers user experience, time on page and bounce rate in its ranking calculations so these attributes are now as important as targeting the right keywords. Nobody likes clicking on a link that doesnt go where it is supposed to, or doesnt go anywhere at all and given the abundance of software programs available for checking your website, there really is no excuse for such sloppy housekeeping. Even Google themselves offer tools to find and fix broken links inside of Google Analytics, a clear indication that sites with broken links will not do well when it comes to rankings 3. Focusing on Backlink Quantity not Quality Backlinks are links that travel from another website to your website. Back in the early days of SEO, it was standard practice to try and get as many backlinks for your website as possible. Marketers did not have to pay too much concern to where the links were coming from because it was all about the number of links that your site had. With every Google update, the focus shifts from quantity to quality. One link from a well read blog might do more for your rankings than hundred of low quality directory links. Quality links might be harder to get but that is why Google puts so much trust in them, making them a much more reliable measure of your websites quality. SEO is all about outsmarting your competition and with every algorithm update, Google add new variables that you need to be across.
