23.01.2022 I spoke in Parliament on Tuesday about Coober Pedy and especially the water situation. I once again called upon the State Government to release the SA Water rep...ort on Coober Pedy, which was completed months ago. In order to address the challenges facing Coober Pedy, State Government assistance will be needed. The Coober Pedy community - as fellow South Australians - deserve our support. See more

22.01.2022 Water Update Council is aware that a large number of properties have experienced discoloured water this morning. Council employees have worked tirelessly through the night and early this morning to rectify the situation. The problem was caused by a drop in pressure due to an electrical malfunction. Air needed to be bled from the lines, and in the process, the water became discoloured. This is due to past administrations failing to maintain and upgrade critical assets and is not a reflection of the hard-working and dedicated water employees and manager.

20.01.2022 HEAT WAVE ADVICE The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting extremely high temperatures of 46 degrees tomorrow and 43 degrees on Monday. The SA Health website has practical tips on how to stay safe during a heatwave, including: Drink plenty of water;... Stay cool with a fan or air-conditioner; Avoid going out in the hottest part of the day; Keep curtains, blinds and windows closed during the day to keep your home cool; Cool off with a shower or bath; Look out for family, friends and the elderly; and If you go outside during the day, wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved and light-coloured clothing, a hat, sunglasses and SPF30+ sunscreen. Babies, young children and the elderly are very sensitive to hot weather, so it is important to watch them closely and stop them from getting dehydrated or too hot. If you suspect that they may be dehydrated, please seek medical advice. It is also wise to watch out for some of our homeless people and to encourage them to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Visit the hospital if you suspect heat stroke or dehydration. The hospital staff will undertake an assessment and provide fluids intravenously if this is the case. The SA Health website also includes information on how to look after pets during extreme heat. Please consider native wildlife by providing water bowls and/or bird baths. For further information, please visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au and search for Staying Healthy in the Heat in the search box.
