25.01.2022 ( ) Our Church on the 24th September celebrates Panagia Myrtidiotissa, the holy icon of Our Lady onthe island of Kythera that has miraculous properties. Panagia Myrtidiotissa means Our Lady of the Myrtle the the holy icon was found by a shepherd in a myrtle bush.Virgin Maryappeared to the shepherd 40 days after her Dormition and told him to search for the icon and that every time he would look for it, he would find it in the same place. As the shepherd kn...eeled to pray, he turned around and found it inside the myrtle and took it home. The next day, when the shepherd woke up, the holy icon was missing. He went back to the myrtle and found it there. He took it home and the same thing happened the next day. So the man realized that he should leave the holy icon where he found it, inside the myrtle bush, and that it should not be removed again. A Church was built on that site as a home for the icon. . . 13 . . , . .

24.01.2022 A N N O U N C E M E N T The Holy Archdiocese of Australia, our Shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, the God-loving Bishops and all the benevolent clergy..., with pain of soul, pray for the divine consolation and strengthening of all our sisters and brothers, who are profoundly being tested with the loss of their loved ones due to the coronavirus pandemic and with overwhelming sorrow, we commemorate the names of all our sisters and brothers from St Basils who have fallen asleep. His Eminence our Archbishop is in constant communication with the authorities, the relevant Ministers and other officials, and all together, with the help and prayers of our faithful people, we will move forward to a new day. Within this context, it is announced that the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of St Basils in Victoria, Mr Konstantinos Kontis has submitted his resignation from the position of Chairman. His Eminence, after expressing his gratitude for the long-standing contribution of Mr Kontis and his co-workers to St Basils, accepted his resignation as Chairman of the Board of Directors, appointing the Very Reverend Archimandrite Father Evmenios Vasilopoulos, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, as the new Chairman. At the same time, he urged Mr Kontis to remain as an ordinary member of the Board of Directors until some practical and legal issues, that were created during the pandemic, are finalised. His Eminence also appreciates the expressions of regret from the relevant Ministers, because in part the efforts to stem the pandemic in certain residential aged care services in Victoria, as well as to support them, did not go as well as people had hoped. We note that, from the 6th August 2020, the management of St Basils was returned to its own administration. His Eminence and the members of the Institution, greet with joy the families who wish and insist that their relatives return to St Basils, recognising the contribution of the Institution to the community and, at the same time, showing trust and respect to the local Church. 22.01.2022 (OFFICIAL PETITION) Dear Friends, Help make a difference.... With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Let our Government know that faith and worship needs fair consideration in the 'roadmap for reopening'. Sign & share the below petition so that our places of worship can open safely and fairly. We are not asking for special treatment - just equal treatment. People of faith deserve equitable treatment. However, it is important to also involve our parents and grandparents in this as they may not have access to social media or internet. 20.01.2022 NEW & AVAILABLE - Forty Stormy Years by Archimandrite Vasilios Bakoyiannis. Christ was to be born in "The Promised Land " (Canaan), from the descendants of Abr...aham, who had "moved " to Egypt. And now the Lord had to "send" them back, and He did. Their forty year journey in the wilderness to Canaan is one of the most fascinating events ever to take place. It is truly a unique event unparalleled in world history. It surpasses all levels of human imagination, the reason being that God himself was the "author" of this "story". This divine story provides the contemporary man with hope. Hopefully, you will find it interesting. Each reader will come to know important answers to various questions that pop into the mind, especially when reading particular things in the bible. This particular book aims to respond (through narrative) to questions such as: Is God vengeful? Does God punish? Why does God allow evil things to happen? Why do people suffer? This book is readily available at BOTH our VIC and NSW book centre stores ! To order, contact one of the centres. Or message our Facebook page for information!

07.01.2022 True Fasting according to Saint Basil the Great, isn’t aimed towards food only. This unfortunately is a mistake most of us make today. ... We tend to fall into the trap of measuring our fast by how much food we’ve eaten or by what we’ve cut during the period etc. But the Fathers saw a much more deeper meaning to the fasts. They saw the fasting period as a chance to really challenge the soul of the faithful person. Thus posing the true questions of the fast: Did you get angry? Did you curse? Did you think or speak bad about someone? Did you judge them? Did you get into an argument and not rectify ? Did you act selfishly ? All these heavy questions, that make us look into our own ego and flawed being, is what fasting is about. Transfigure on! ********************************** Many materials on fasting and Lent are readily available at both our Victorian and Nsw Book Centre stores !
