25.01.2022 My own knees have told me that its getting colder as well as me being a bit slack in the last week with my supplements! If ...your dog has started to find it a little harder to get up and down or a bit slower on walks, they may also be feeling the colder weather. Heres my tips and tricks for dealing with cold weather owies: - i.e. not kibble, if youd like to learn more about feeding a whole foods diet, head to our supportive mostly Australian group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/ Diet matters, if you feed your dog a highly processed diet that promotes inflammation then its reasonable to expect years i.e. 5-10 years down the track, youre going to potentially see that inflammation show up in the form of disease including joint disease. So whilst you might think your kibble fed dog is healthy right now, its not a healthy food - if it were in a supermarket isle as human food, you certainly wouldnt find it in the health food isle. - a superhero version of omega-3, low in purines and heavy metals, a full spectrum omega-3 which works synergistically, there is nothing on the market like it. I keep my dogs on it all year long as it also acts as a preventative, improves coat condition, can help skin conditions, improve train-ability in puppies and the list goes on - you see what I mean about being a superhero. If your Vet doesnt stock it, shoot me a direct message and Ill shoot you an online supplier with free shipping. - a great supplement for pain, inflammation, ligaments and muscles. I buy Opti MSM which is the best in the world, you can get it here: https://www.blants.com.au/ 1-10 kilos of body weight: 1/4 teaspoon 10 - 20 kilos of body weight: 1/2 teaspoon 20 40 kilos of body weight: 3/4 teaspoon over 40 kilos: 1 teaspoon and then 1/4 teaspoon for every 10 kilos over that These doses can be doubled when there are joint disease issues. Add Vitamin C to increase absorption of MSM. Use a ratio of 4 parts MSM to 1 part Vitamin C. Ester C is much gentler on the tummy that standard Vitamin C and comes in a powder. - pop it in the microwave for 45 seconds, check temperature for skin safety (it should feel luke warm) and then apply to painful joints for 10 minutes 1-2 times daily. () - Apply to joint and lightly massage in for 1-2 minutes as many times a day as you like. In sensitive skin dogs, apply water to the area first. I use Amazing Oils - Organic Magnesium Products - always read ingredients panels to ensure ingredients are safe for dogs. - walk your arthritic dog, even if its to the letter box and back, movement is incredibly important, as soon as you stop moving older/compromised dogs they start their downward decline. - Massage, heat therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, adjustments, acupuncture - there are so many beneficial therapies for older dogs. - swimming and underwater treadmill sessions are great for such dogs - they must be at a treatment centre which maintains water at a therapeutic temperature. Stop ball throwing, biking, jogging and dog sports with these dogs, they are no longer appropriate and if you continue, you will wear the joints down faster which will be reflected in a lower quality of life later on. Do not avoid pain killers if your dog actually needs them simply because you dont want to put chemicals into your dog - I hear this rational often and you dont have the right to withhold medication from your dog when you dont feel the pain they feel. Dogs are hard wired not to show pain and when they eventually show it, theyve been feeling it for a long time. If your dog limps then your dog is in pain.

22.01.2022 This is an example of why it is dangerous to use scissors to remove matting on your dog. Matting can become very tight against the skin and even pull the skin up and you wont always know until its too late that you have cut through your dogs skin. Please do not use scissors to get matting out of your dogs! Professional groomers using clippers are the only safe way to remove mats in your dogs fur. Brushing your dogs if you cant get them groomed regularly is a great way to keep them comfortable in the interim. A hairy over grown matt free dog is better than a matted injured one.

19.01.2022 PPPLLLSSS dont let your off leash dog go up to a leashed dog. It is super stressful for the dog thats leashed as well as its owner. #tpprescue #yqr

18.01.2022 Melbourne home based dog groomers and mobile dog groomers need your help. Please help by signing this petition to draw the attention of the Legislative Council. Home based and mobile dog groomers (HMDG) pose minimal to no risk to the community as we are usually in a one-on-one working environment with contactless service in place. HMDG should have been able to reopen when the commercial groomers did. Many sole HMDG are suffering financially and are feeling discriminated again...st with the implementation of this double standard policy. PLEASE SIGN and SHARE! (Scroll down in the attached document to find the signature section.) Thank you.

18.01.2022 As of Wednesday night it will be mandatory for all of us in the Melbourne area (including Mornington Peninsula) to wear masks in public. Facial coverings during... lockdown COULD make some dogs feel confused and concerned as they cant read human facial expressions or cues. Here are some simple instructions on how to condition your pups to get used to face masks.. CREDIT: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/jessica-carpani/

17.01.2022 PATELLA LUXATION The red circles show the knee joints of a fully grown but not yet born puppy. As can be clearly seen here, there is a lot of space between the ...knee and other joints. The intervening spaces consist of cartilage and it takes 2 years for the cartilage to ossify (the cartilage is replaced by bone). If you start feeling the patella at a young age, it will ALWAYS luxuriate because cartilage is flexible. (Feel how flexible it is on your nose or ear) If a vet starts to feel the patella too early, he can manually luxate the patella. A diagnosis of Patella Luxation is often given at a young age because there is still flexibility in the joints. It also regularly happens that owners do not take sufficient account of flexibility and go for a walk when purchasing, while this is extremely bad for the dog. A 10-week-old puppy is allowed to walk for 10 minutes (5 back and forth) to prevent deformities from forming. Another factor is that running after a ball, climbing stairs, jumping on or off the couch, jerks at the end of the line, short, fast turns on the axis and the dog's character can all cause Patella Luxation. When you buy a puppy you have to take this into account. Even if both parents are tested and free of Patella Luxation, the puppy can still get it due to improper upbringing or a veterinarian who manually luxates the patella. The advice for surgery is often given, but can be prevented 9 out of 10 times by giving your dog the right education. Training your dog to walk next to you, to run loose, to walk straight stretches, swimming are all things that promote muscle. In addition, you can also give BCAA (a supplement) that stimulates muscle building. The musculature ensures that the patella stays in place. See more

14.01.2022 Dear customers, Well, unfortunately, we are finding ourselves in the same position we were in 3 months ago, however, I would like to reassure you all that Diva Dogs will stay open and continue to pamper your pooches the same way we did during the first lockdown. We understand we are still a required service so if you are stopped and questioned coming or going from your appointment, please refer to the attached photo and provide my number for verification of your appointm...ent. We will return to our previous health protocols which include wearing masks and gloves, following social distancing, and sanitizing all surfaces, door handles, points of contact with veterinary and hospital anti viral solutions numerous times per day. Even though we only work on one customers dog at time, our appts are back to back so we ask you to please maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance from yourself to next person when dropping off or picking up your dog. We will be wearing gloves to handle money but if you prefer, and have on-line banking on your mobile phone, we will accept electronic transfer of funds with proof of payment required before picking up your dog. Please ensure your dogs have a collar and a lead on when entering our premises. This is always good practice, as we can walk dogs with their familiar collar and lead to settle them. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell. Try and give us as much notice as possible to fill your appointment slot, however this is going to be very tough for us so please keep your appointment if you are well. We thank you for your cooperation and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Should you have any questions, please do not hestite to contact us on 0421 280 530 or Facebook message. Keep calm, keep well and see you at the salon and, as always, thank you so much for your valued custom and support. Sue @ Diva Dogs.

13.01.2022 Whilst we dont use head halters, Ive seen the flexi & head halter combo used... Shouldnt even need to be said But dont attach your head collar to a f...lexi lead Attach it to a standard leash. On a flexi, youre applying constant pressure and desensitizing your dog to leash pressure. Hitting the end of a flexi on a head halter can cause some serious damage. 13.01.2022 Wrapping up Volume 2 of Love Them By Leading Them!! Halfway through recording the audiobookwhich is truly gruelingimagine having to read an entire book with n...o lip smacking, tongue twisting, throat clearing, unidentified mouth noise, improper emphasis on a word or sentence, and absolutely zero mispronunciations! We’ve got a few limited edition surprises on the horizon, and some other goodies as well. Super proud. It’s been a long road to finish this baby, but I think you’re all going to really like how it continues from the first volume. And man, I almost sound like I know what I’m doing.

13.01.2022 I know Ive said this a million times, and in a multitude of fashions, but because so many struggle with being firm with those they love and care for, it bears repeating. Do whats best for those who depend on you to lead, guide, teach. The priority is their welfare, not your comfort.

11.01.2022 In this post is important information and links about the Isoxazoline class of chemicals that is adversely affecting animals with mild to severe adverse reactio...ns including death. (pic shows all of the ones in this class of pesticides) Ask vets if they are aware of the seizure/neurological alert put out by the FDA on Sept 20, 2018 linking these pesticide with neurological issues and seizures, even in animals with no prior history. And share the link with them. https://www.fda.gov//fact-sheet-pet-owners-and-veterinaria Ask vets as well if they are aware of a recent study done concerning suspected retinal toxicity, eye disorders and retinal abnormalities in connection to these pesticides: https://m.youtube.com/watch The EMA (European Medicines Agency), oversees all adverse reactions and death for all of the Isoxazoline pesticides. Anyone can now see detailed, documented reports for Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica and Credelio, instructions on how to access the public reports are below. I would suggest you copy and paste how to access the reports in a safe place and then you can just share it as needed. There is now public access to adverse event reports without applying for and waiting months to receive EMA reports that monitor serious adverse reactions and deaths worldwide for Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica and Credelio. These reports can be accessed by vets, owners or anyone. To access and view these reports in full. Use the link below, once on there, click on the first link that says adrreports.eu, once on that page go to and click on: "Search for report", Once on the next page go to: Suspected Adverse Drug reaction reports for Substances and click on it, then click on A, scroll down to Afoxolaner (parent drug of Nexgard), then click on Afoxolaner, it will then open a new window with links across the top: "summary", "number of cases by species", "number of cases affected by EEA country", etc The part people should look at very closely is the Number of cases by reaction group, when clicking on that it will bring up 3 options, "Line listing" is the one whomever is searching will want to see for very detailed reports. The person searching will then want to select the country they want to see information about from the Country drop down list, then select Seizures, Neurological or whatever reaction they want to see very specific information on from the Reported Reaction drop down list. And finally Gateway Date to choose the year they want to look at all the reports for (each year will need to be chosen separately), and once the parameters have been chosen, to the left of the page is a link that says Display line listing, click on that and a new page will load with all the information for that year. If whomever is searching wants to see ALL the different reactions for each country, one does not need to choose anything other than the year you want to view. The same steps can be used to see detailed adverse reaction and death reports for Fluralaner (Bravecto), Sarolaner (Simparica) or Lotilaner (Credelio) by substituting whichever chemical they want to see reports on in place of Afoxolaner (Nexgard). https://www.ema.europa.eu//public-access-suspected-side-ef

11.01.2022 I am coming across it more and more, and its very unsettling to me. I am seeing so many clients that are going to a positive only trainer here on the Gold Coast.... These dogs are so hyped up, overly stimulated, and yes some full of anxiety... They cant switch off! And the reason for this? Well, because all their training is based on overly stimulating the dog during training to get the dog to focus and do commands. High pitched voices, and high energy movements whenever they want the dog to do something for them, then giving the dog bloody treats! Then incorporating this into their daily lives with their dogs. These dogs have no understanding of boundaries, nor are they emotionally stable or balanced dogs! What the hell are you guys doing?

09.01.2022 Yes, bored dogs will do things to occupy themselvesmany annoying things you wont like. But when it comes to truly problematic behavior issues, contrary to pop...ular belief, you cant exercise it out of them. You have to train it out of them. That means negative consequences for poor choices, and positive consequences for good. Exercise should be a solid part of any healthy dogs life, and a dog who receives adequate exercise/stimulation will be an easier dog to train, but the fabled myth of it solving serious issues is just that...a myth. Trust me, a regular maniac is plenty, you dont need a triathlete with issues to complicate matters.

08.01.2022 The biggest disability that you can give your rescue dog is remembering that he is a rescue. Our own minds and hearts cannot give them strength, and what they... deserve, when we remember their past. We instead pity them, and this weakness gets communicated every time that we look at them. Embrace them as your new dog. Gradually show them the ropes of how dogs behave in your life, and home. And work with them so that they can become that dog. Your first four months are always a honeymoon period, where you are getting to know each other. Show them your expectations and needs, and then enjoy the remainder of your lives together. 08.01.2022 Please share to every pet owner you know. This is my little dog Duncan a week before we died. We could not figure out what was going on. He didnt want to eat h...is food, he kept looking up at us like he hated it, and he kept hiding from us. He would push all our shoes off the shoe rack and climb up on the shelf and lay or go under the bed. He was my service dog so this was very unusual because he usually was with me 24/7. A week later he died from Science Diet Dog Food. A death no pet should endure....trembling, urinating uncontrollably, lost 50% of his body weight in 24 hours, vomiting bile and listless for the last 24 hours of his life. No pet should die like this from their food. Duncan was my person. I did everything for him. I gave him what I was told was the best dog food, vaccinated him like the vet recommended, had his teeth cleaned annually, any medical treatment he needed he got (he had pet insurance). All of those things I did for him potentially could have killed him, and one eventually did. I found out after my Facebook Post went viral about Duncan that so many pet foods are bad, vaccinations and medications can be very dangerous and often deadly, fleas/tick/heartworm medications and dental cleanings can also be dangerous and most importantly the pet industry is not here to protect our pets they are here to make money. I didnt realize that vets do not have hardly any training in nutrition, and that they receive commission from Hills, MARS, and Purina to push their products and also make $ for every dangerous drug they sell. I would give ANYTHING if I can have a do-over with Duncan specifically. He can not be replaced. I am much more educated regarding pet foods, pet care, vaccinations, etc because of my Facebook Group, Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time which has so many well educated holistic vets, pet advocates, pet owners to offer great advice. Dont be a Kelly and blindly follow the advice of your vet. DO YOUR RESEARCH before you go to the vet, and also when they recommend a procedure or a product to you. I am NOT saying that vets are bad....I really liked my vet, but I am saying that just like medical Western Medicine doctors they recommend medications, etc that often are not safe. .There are so many holistic things that you can do are safe. Watch Pet Fooled on You Tube/Netflix (it should be required for every pet owner). Just like humans, everything we put in our body and on our pets now are often filled with carcinogens. And we wonder why cancer is so prevalent? Dont be a Kelly and not be able to sleep at night because the guilt consumes you. Dont be a Kelly missing your favorite dog every day because of something you did to him. If you are blessed to have a pet you love, do the right thing and do your research to ensure you are giving him the best care possible, and not just what the vet recommends. Join Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time on Facebook and we will help you find a nutritious food, help with medical conditions, etc. and you wont be a Kelly!

08.01.2022 EDITED POST: I was wrong to make a joke that insinuated that my dog groomer was at fault. They were not. My dog looks like this because I did not brush her e...nough. I apologize. I did not intend to offend any dog groomer whatsoever. Dog groomers do good work. Im grateful for dog groomers. In fact, the whole reason our dog was matted in some areas was because we take her for daily walks on the trail. Unfortunately, we couldnt get her into our dog groomer on our regular schedule because of COVID-19. The reality is, our regular groomer couldnt see her until September! Thats no excuse. I should still brush her more often. I am sorry. I will keep the original post below, as a friendly reminder for people with doodle breeds, we all need to brush our dogs more often. - ORIGINAL POST: That moment when your hairdresser didnt quite understand what you meant by a little off the top - #goldendoodle

07.01.2022 Heres a good visualization from my pal @livevitae of why eating chicken breast has been one of the thousands of bad recommendations weve been given for decade...s Nutrient density is so important But its hard to quantify or notice Imagine one person eating chicken breast and similar nutrient-poor foods (many of which would be way worse than chicken) for 30 years And another person eating chicken liver and other nutrient-dense foods Each could maintain the same waistline if they managed to balance their energy intake But one person would have gotten orders of magnitude more nutrition Fun thought experiment... who do you think would have better health?

06.01.2022 This was sent to us from another groomer

06.01.2022 Heres a graphic I made about how important it is to keep our dogs fit and healthy!

06.01.2022 The number one thing you can do for a dog that’s suffered trauma in its past. Stop treating it like a victim These dogs don’t recover when you try to ove...rcompensate for their shitty life by trying to prevent any future stress and mollycoddle them. These dogs need to learn resilience, bravery and that life is fun and wonderful. They can’t do that while you keep repeating the narrative that their life was dreadful before you came along. When you move on from that story, you give them a chance to do that also.

05.01.2022 Hello dear customers. As of yet, it is still not clear when groomers can get back to work, but definitely not before end of September. We are waiting to hear in the coming days whether we can operate in stage 3 or not. I will keep you posted...cross all your fingers and toes for us, better still, call your local member and make a case as to the fact that dogs being groomed is a health and welfare issue, not a cosmetic one. Thanks.

04.01.2022 My dog is not my child. My dog is not my furbaby. I am not her mother. ... My dog is my friend. She is my partner and my companion. To treat her like a child, to infantilize her and make it seem as though she needs my constant coddling or protection, would be unfair to her. She is an adult carnivore that I have brought into my human world. Because of that it is my responsibility as her owner: 1) To communicate with her in a way she can understand. 2) To provide leadership, discipline and mutual respect. 3) To understand her instincts and needs, and provide appropriate outlets for them. 4) To train her and provide her the skills to function effectively in our human world, including acceptable manners and behaviors. Our dogs deserve to be given responsibility and allowed to be adult creatures, not perpetual babies. Please, dont try to make them tiny humans, they arent and they dont want to be. Dogs are wonderful because they are dogs. Let them be dogs. Teach them to be good ones. - K. Carter

04.01.2022 What bones can you feed your dog? Raw, only raw! and avoid lamb and beef leg bones as they are super strong and can crack your dogs teeth. The best bones are neck bones, ribs, wings or carcasses. Dehydrated or smoked bones are also a no no as the processing still makes them brittle not raw, soft and moist, this is a common misconception about those bones. They are actually "cooked" but just with a low heat over a long time. They still splinter like cooked bones and are har...der because they are dried and this makes them difficult to digest. Old bones left in a yard dry out and become harder over time and therefore should be removed for the safety of the dog, but they arent cooked! The point is to have wet, moist, juicy bones, so any type of drying, whether that is cooking, dehydrating or ageing in a back yard, is going to produce a bone that is hard to chew which can crack teeth, difficult to digest which can cause constipation and potentially can break into shards that can damage the stomach and digestive tract. Anything other than fresh raw bones poses a risk and should not be given. See more

03.01.2022 Isoxazolines Theres a big list of them They are all toxic Known to cause seizures , lethargy, dizziness and yes -death These drugs are not safe for our pets, t...he manufacturers are being sued and law suits are happening around the world right now.
