We're heading out today on the Sea Dragon II for a morning of boat diving the North Head Sponge Gardens. We're looking forward to searching for Weedys and Grey Nurse sharks with our divers! Our shore divers are heading to Shelly beach today to also see if they can spot the Grey Nurse in the bay and we have some snorkelers heading out this afternoon on a snorkel safari! Conditions at Cabbage Tree Bay have been ranging from 5m visibility in the bay to 10m pass the point with loads of active marine life. We've also launched our Rusty Divers Package to reignite your passion for a summer of diving! Big well done to our Open water divers and Advanced open water divers for completing the first day of their courses yesterday, They had some great dives learning new skills and in the case of the Advanced divers, practicing existing ones as they prepare to take their next steps in the diving world. Best of success to both groups on the completion of their courses! We had a few epic boat dives yesterday too along Old Man's Hat, weedy sea dragons, huge crayfish, Grey Nurse sharks along with all the usual suspects! The Advanced course are heading back their today so we look forward to hearing their reports. We had Alexia learn to dive on the Open Water course and Genny, who has recently levelled up from Divemaster to PADI Instructor, certify her first Open Water student! Not to mention, the wildlife we encountered above and below the water (pictured)! The conditions at Shelly have been improving, with visibility ranging from 5-7 metres yesterday. We recommend having a summer splash there this afternoon to cool off once the leftover NE swell fades as the southerly windswell picks up later today. Our Open Water students and shore divers were lucky enough to see the pod of dolphins from the surface at Fairy Bower and hear them underwater during their dives! They also were greeted by playful octopus, blue gropers and plenty of Wobbegong sharks. We had a fantastic weekend with our Open Water and Advanced Open Water students smashing through their diving skills and our shore divers enjoying Cabbage Tree Bay. Visibility is still ranging between 3-5m in the bay, although the plentiful life makes up for that! Over the weekend we spotted bull rays, eagle rays, octopus, Port Jackson sharks and Grey Nurse sharks at our local. You know it's a thriving aquatic reserve when the Grey Nurse population decides to stay a while! We recommend heading in for a dive at Shelly again today as the harbour is quite messy with the persisting strong winds. Here's what's coming up at DCM.
