25.01.2022 I recently posted this on my private page showcasing a fellow tradies frustration with the construction industry in WA. There is a real lack of understanding from a consumers point of view on what is involved in construction. I try to be as transparent as possible but at the moment it honestly feels like clients will only take the lowest quote. This has created a huge knock on effect, not only with the quality of work, but our local trades people are losing out on work and ha...ving to shut up shop. The following pictures are from jobs that I've been asked to "fix" just in the last fortnight - it is disgraceful to think there’re cowboys/tradies out there that think they can rip clients off like this. This unfortunately is the negative side of choosing the cheapest and most likely, unqualified trades people. This does not mean that an unqualified person cannot do a great job for a low price but we need to do our duediligence. Research who you are using. If you think the quote is too high then ask your trades person to explain it to you. Take the time to work through: the costs involved, the time it takes and the risks involved to reach your desired renovation goal. Ask for trade certificates, ask for references and pictures of previous work. Please Perth, do not chose the cheapest quote just to save a few hundred dollars, our industry is suffering and so is your pocket.
