25.01.2022 The painting process! Here on this Audi you see it’s suffered quite a nasty dent on the guard. Usually we like to repair damage as much as possible, but with this guard being aluminium and split where the bumper lines up, we thought it would be much nicer for the vehicle and cost effective for the client to replace the guard. When you replace a panel there are two options.... 1. New. When purchasing a new panel the part does not come to us painted to the colour of your car. It comes in a black coating and requires paint. 2. Used. When purchasing used parts 9 times out of 10 they won’t be perfect and will require minor repairs and a full repaint. As you will see there is no damage on the bonnet or on the passenger side door but we resprayed them both. 18.01.2022 Throughout our time we have found there is a lot of confusion when it comes to pricing for repairs. Everyone always wants the cheapest price for their repairs, but here is why that might not be such a great idea. This is an example we come across quite frequently. The paint defects you see are cause by ... 1. Not removing the bumper bar & all of its components, the reason this needs to be done is so you can prepare every part of the bars surface with the correct processes. Only then will the paint adhere to the old paint. 2. Not sanding down the bar correctly, this bar was likely to be sounded down incorrectly, very quickly with not a lot of care and effort put into it, which is why the paint is peeling off. 3. Terrible orange peel finish, that rough hardly shiny finish could be caused by a few things, mostly poor application, but also inferior products, poor preparation. ................ As you can see we have taken the bar off the car, all parts off of the bumper, taken off most of the defected paint area before spraying the whole bar. Leaving a nice even finish that will last! *** Do your research! 18.01.2022 Here is something we come across a lot at Diverse! This paint chip is so small, most people’s thoughts are that the repair method must be small too. We have to smooth out the paint transition from the deepest point of the scratch to the undamaged paint surface.... We need to build up the subtracted material with a primer filler. All parts must be disassembled so we can prepare the surface correctly and avoid getting overspray on those parts. We use a paint blending technique with the colour only where the repair area was and then we clear coat the full door. Everything is then re-assembled. Luckily the owner was insured with NRMA and had the choice of repairer option selected on his policy. 07.01.2022 How much should it cost to fix your damage? Here is a great comparison of two different quality repairs on a Porsche front bumper bar. In the before photos you can see paint defects everywhere, you can still see damage that has been painted over. The bar was only painted partially which is why you can see it is dull in places & there was paint all over the fog light and trims because nothing was taken off. ... We had to undo all of the old repair work because the key to a great quality job is a solid foundation. We then repaired all of the damage correctly and resprayed the full bumper bar with all parts disassembled. A lot of people don’t understand that in most of the circumstance in our industry, cheaper is not always better. Your most likely going to be left with two scenarios. 1. A few months later he was involved in another accident on the exact same side. ... This time he had the choice of his repairer and of course came to us. After looking over the previous repairs it was clear to see that they quite shocking especially for a brand new car. Claiming through his insurance we were able to not only fix the new damage but rectify the poor workmanship from the previous repair. He was very lucky that the new accident damage was in the same location as the previous damage otherwise he would have been further inconvenienced and would have needed to go back to the preferred repairer to fix their poor workmanship.
