25.01.2022 Breaking news >>> NSW closing border with Vic from Tuesday midnight (Monday night). Covid -19 has not gone away especially in Melbourne. Please insure you maintain social distancing when with friends or in the community , stay home if you have flu symptoms, keep your hands clean , provide encouragement to those in lock down . Reminder this is an Australia issue , support Victoria and play your part to eliminate the virus .
25.01.2022 The most common question we get when designing and building home mods, ‘please don’t make my home look like a hospital’. Here we have two custom built wooden grab rails that we will be stained the same colour as the door frames (parts all from Bunnings) and the makings of a feature ramp that will have a built in planter box to grow strawberries in that will highlight the front access, look amazing, and enhance accessibility for all
25.01.2022 Fascinating idea for motor control, coordination, and concentration ... plus looks really fun too
25.01.2022 What’s your covid goal(s) Kia kaha Melbourne and Victoria (stay strong)
25.01.2022 Another option to help pimp your wheelchair

24.01.2022 Task: scooter driving assessment Lesson: therapists priorities don’t always match client priorities Side message: always drive powered scooters as per the road rules as you are driving a small powered vehicle
24.01.2022 Sometimes a not quite right look is the perfect solution for a lady with severe osteoporosis arthritis in her knees that significantly impacts safe shower transfers ... can you see what is not quite right with the white grab rail that creates the perfect solution ? Complimented by a small threshold ramp to help a mini electric scooter access the home and complete a tight internal hallway corner.
24.01.2022 Need a family pick me up , free smiles, something to feel warm and fuzzy inside or a sense of normality during the current climate wherever you are in the world ? Come and watch Victorias famous penguin parade (Fairy penguins) at Phillip Island streaming live tonight and every night during current restrictions. Tune is at sunset Melbourne time for the free show At Phillip Island YouTube channel (linked) tonight at 6pm or their Facebook page.
22.01.2022 Have you ever tried a weighted blanket ? An excellent option for someone that may require greater sense of comfort , feelings of safety, deep pressure relaxation , generally calming. Our client reported the day after this photo was taken that she slept with the blanket on her bed , and for the first time in a long time she was able to sleep the entire night without waking restless . ... Perfect for anxiety , autism, personality disorder , PTSD, sensory defensive people and many other diagnosiss. Calming Moments
21.01.2022 A fascinating story from the perspective of a person who lives with a disability you cannot see. ‘Invisible disability is a blessing and a curse. I most often have the option to hide or disclose my disability. I now see things I didn't notice a decade ago: buildings inaccessible to wheelchair users, inadequate seating offered at small gigs, incorrect or absent subtitles, someone talking to a disabled 50-year-old like they're a toddler.’
20.01.2022 Health Professionals still intending to provide essential services in person require a work permit, see attached link for details https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/permitted-worker-scheme-covid-19
20.01.2022 USA activity vs covid risk . Knowledge is power, remember Covid-19 is breathed into your system . The more people you associate with the bigger the risk is the key message.
20.01.2022 One of the joys of developing OT programs is to create strategies to develop meaningful opportunity to participate in leisure. One thing we learn in healthcare is to never judge a book by its cover as we dont know what life experiences are written on the pages.
20.01.2022 Long overdue ... Melbourne the State Government are now requesting your wear a mask when in the public. A mask is no guarantee but certainly helps you to stop spreading your breath and/or germs which sure add covid-19. Join the club and start wearing a mask too
19.01.2022 Two endings are possible , a medical end to covid-19 or a social end to covid-19? An enlightening video on the history of pandemics
18.01.2022 Not mainstream media, this is a raw insight into the life of a black American OT and the daily persecutions she lives with ... on top of treating mental health patients and serving the community . Lets not forget OTs are also frontline workers also working to combat COVID-19. As an OT service provider heavily involved in Australian mental health and neurological sectors ... racism is never ok
17.01.2022 Sex, relationships, accessible housing, employment are all hot topics post injury ... a shot of inspiration here in this video , and if you are that person that needs to address some of the above it might be time to see your Occupational Therapist and make some plans
17.01.2022 What does your brain first tell you is in this picture? How many images can you see ?
17.01.2022 Check out one of our stars talking about her amazing mental health journey with the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme and occupational therapy. Taking control as the CEO is an important highlight we have focused on to develop owning her NDIS plan to making wise decisions and learn delegation skills. Great to see the boss of NDIS (Martin Hoffman) also referencing Kerri as a CEO in his weekly newsletter... Kerri you are doing something right , keep kicking goals :)
17.01.2022 Stay safe Victoria! Encourage those living under new restrictions to do the right thing while we all also socially distance and keep hands clean ! Covid-19 has not gone away yet and still poses a major health risk to ALL of Australia
17.01.2022 The long term impact of personally contracting covid-19 by a fit young medical Dr. His new heart restrictions that include no exercise and no car driving may help remind people on the importance to social distance
17.01.2022 When you think 2020 cannot get more strange today is emoji day (apparently)
16.01.2022 Keeping someone mobile following a stroke and paralysis (on one side) is really important to help that person maintain independence to access the shops, church, and swimming pool as in our clients case. Although we currently cant do any social or leisure that brings people together (and generally the most impirysnt role for all humans) , we can still do scooter assessments to upgrade the wheels, all delivered with a socially distant smile (hidden behind a mask) with some help from Freedom Mobility Scooters
16.01.2022 Please Melbourne and Victoria get on board and wear a face mask ASAP . It may feel weird at first, it certainly did when @diversified rehab started wearing them months ago for in home therapy sessions, but it does become part of your attire and gives an additional layer of protection to you and the person you may be close. Please note even with a mask please try to use social distancing at all times as the primary protection measure . To beat covid-19 we need to use all the tools available at the same time together . Stay safe Melbourne !
16.01.2022 As a member of the Victorian community and a health provider in the home, Victorians please remain vigilant with practising social distance and hand washing. Diversified Rehab also promotes the use of appropriate face mask wearing while in the community to reduce sharing of breath and reinforcement of the significance and how easy this virus spreads. We are now the first State/Territory to delay planned restrictions, primarily related to large household gatherings that have ...infected a number of people. Due to rising cases, planned numbers to cafes and pools will remain at 20 pax. Gym and cinemas can reopen with a maximum of 20 persons. A maximum of 5 visitors in the home. If you are sick you must not go to work and you must not leave the home. Anyone with a cold/flu symptom is encouraged to get tested ! Stay safe Victoria and together we can work together to help get through this.
14.01.2022 VICTORIA covid restrictions that impact Allied Health Professionals and patients receiving care (reference VAHPA). Effective July 31: Due to an increased risk of transmission of COVID-19 all healthcare workers in Victoria (including in regional and rural areas) must wear a level 1 or type 1 disposable surgical mask in public-facing areas in healthcare settings. Surgical masks... All staff must wear (at a minimum) a level 1 or type 1 surgical mask while at work. This now includes non-public facing staff. Do not use cloth masks at work. Eye protection Staff who are directly involved in treating patients must wear eye protection. Patients should also wear face masks in these same environments. Social distancing should be adhered to when possible.
14.01.2022 Something to think about
14.01.2022 Mental health therapy is now more important than ever . During a session in Croydon we found some new friends. Have you got a Spoonville in your suburb ?
14.01.2022 Happy left handlers day ... Lefties are in good company sharing this day with the worlds most popular pop culture cartoon character Bart Simpson
13.01.2022 Masks work best when worn ... and when building a treadmill and getting your client in it for their first fit test Thank you NDIS

11.01.2022 Breaking news In Victoria. From midnight this coming Wednesday wearing a mask in greater Melbourne will be compulsory ! If you are seeking a covid project, or how you can make an extra difference in the current climate, this could be a great project to make quality reusable masks and find communities to wear them that can not otherwise afford a mask as some of our clients are taking the lead in
11.01.2022 A strategy to reduce stress , anxiety and day to day time management with a person living with complex post traumatic stress. A Weekly dinner plan with a selection of easy to prepare meals that can be easily exchanged week to week or on the day . Strategy is focussed on completing a very small daily shop at the local butcher and green grocer to avoid over stimulation around large groups of people that lead to hours of heighten stress and concern and frustration. With one week trial remarkable changes already in affect, happiness, and confidence in resuming a important daily activity.
11.01.2022 Face mask etiquette... 1) blue side faces out 2) mask should cover your mouth and your nose when in public the thin metal bit goes by your nose, give it a pinch for a snug fit ... 3) masks work best when not used as a hat remove mask by holding the straps only to avoid contamination from the mask to your hands 4) we recommend closing eyelids to help rest your eyes, and a mask stay over your mouth when you are tired to disguise your yawn If mask wearing is good enough for surgeons to not spread their germs in surgery, it is good enough for us to not share our germs for a few months and beat covid19 , remember use hand sanitiser before and after mask wearing. Go for gold people always use protection
10.01.2022 Celebrating Australia’s first people , first builders, first explorers , first health practitioners, first educators, first artists, first..
10.01.2022 How does Melbournes Stage 4 impact your health services and/or Victorias Stage 3? Disability services providers can continue to deliver services under the current restrictions in Victoria. However, the Victorian Government has some additional requirements in place which are the responsibility of employers. Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne... Disability services, and the necessary support services that enable them, are identified as permitted work under Stage 4 restrictions. In Melbourne, employers that require their staff to attend a work site must issue a worker permit to their employees from 11:59pm on Wednesday 5 August 2020. Employees in Melbourne must carry the worker permit and photo identification when travelling to and from the workplace. A permitted worker scheme template and guidance is available through the Victorian Government website. Permitted workplaces have until 11:59pm on Friday 7 August to implement their COVID Safe Plan. Information and resources are available to help businesses create a COVID Safe workplace. Stage 3 restrictions in Victoria The Victorian Department of Health advice is that disability services may still be delivered across Victoria including in restricted areas. Disability services need to consider the impact of any activity on an individuals health including any underlying medical conditions and vulnerability, and the necessity of undertaking the activity. See advice for the disability services sector on the Victorian Health and Human Services website. Face coverings in Victoria All Victorians must wear a face covering when leaving home, with only some exceptions including children aged under 12 or where a person has a medical condition or disability that affects their breathing. NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission The NDIS Commission will continue to issue advice and guidance to support you to continue delivering the safe and quality supports and services NDIS participants rely on. Please monitor their NDIS Provider COVID-19 webpage for updates and read all Provider Alerts they issue. The NDIS Commission has information for registered NDIS providers to support them in understanding: their obligations to safely and competently provide supports and services to people with disability during the COVID-19 pandemic how to reduce exposure and transmission of COVID-19 how to maintain NDIS supports and services. Visit the NDIS Commission website for further information.

08.01.2022 Got corona calories ? Getting ripped for summer could be a great covid goal especially if stuck in Melbourne lock down. As CSIRO point out, planning is everything to helping you succeed at a diet (but also all goals).

06.01.2022 Welcome to International goal setting day, yes you did make it !! We have added a few tips to the image to help you succeed in developing a goal, remember a goal is something that requires attention, discipline and effort. It may help to have a friend that can keep you accountable or work on the same goal with you. While thinking about a goal, maybe consider how you can improve your brain function, and humanity by considering...... > what goal requires new learning like an instrument, a language, online course? > what can you do that helps others or gets you involved with people...people are unique and are guaranteed to always bring a new social experience that requires social understanding Goals don’t just need to occur on New Years Day, they can happen any day. If your New Years goals don’t quite make through the first week or month that’s ok , you tried. Start again with some revisions and remember today is the most important day of your life and is a great day to start that goal. Good luck and wishing you a fantastic year in 2021.

Lets all make this the best 6 weeks possible to help life return to normal on the other side ... its a good time to practise grace, kindness, love, compassion as we are all doing this tough ... but we will get by with a little love from our friends (love a Beetles quote)
03.01.2022 Melbourne currently has 6 identified council hot spots. Government advise is to stay at home and minimise or have nil visitors to your home. This advise also impacts services going to the home such as health providers unless absolutely necessary . Tele-health options are the safest for these communities as we try to reduce community transmission. However social distancing , clean hands, staying away from people if you are sick are rules for everyone to practise to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible .
03.01.2022 Attention all OTs and health workers. Please click below link to read current recommendations and guidelines regarding the use of bed poles and bed side rails. In summary, either option must be a last resort following research of alternative options due to associated risks. A risk assessment must be conducted and documented that outlines cognitive and physical abilities, purpose, along with education to client and family, and frequent checks of equipment.
03.01.2022 Hopefully some life long lessons have been learnt during Melbourne’s second wave stage 4 restrictions that include : We are all social beings, we need people; Being kind to others costs nothing, Our value of community and what we are able to do in community has been enhanced more;... We only get through this working as one team together and practising appropriate and tough good public health measures; and... Hoarding toilet paper doesn’t help anyone’s anxiety !! Well done Melbourne and Australia!
03.01.2022 Specialty Disability Accommodation. If you needed a wheelchair , could not talk, or had one side of your body paralysed could you still get through the front door ? Get on and off the toilet ? Get into the shower ?
02.01.2022 There are so many essential health care workers entering homes to provide medical treatment, therapy, or care/support. If a person has cocked-19 they still require medical/health services. For all the great people working int he community we need to know when to wear PPE, how to communicate to the person why we are wearing PPE, and how to safely put it on and take it off. Note, cleaning hands is a very important part of the process always.... Lets beat covid! https://youtu.be/4LgfB--OxqA

01.01.2022 Creating light solutions for wheelchairs. A post likely of more interest to the occupational therapists out there, for everyone else it looks like a wheelchair and torch, but is it ? Getting sufficient lighting fitted into a wheelchair that is very bright, strong in design, has sufficient battery, and easily rechargeable is a challenge when fitting to a wheelchair that is driven by a man who has limited vision, left side paralysis, and a brain injury that impacts decision...Continue reading
01.01.2022 The money speedway! This young lady has a variety of congenital cognitive limitations that impact decision making, calculations, problem solving ... and ultimately impact self image and confidence. Money is a tool she likes to use but has given her processing limitations counting just becomes one big confused mess that has been reinforced with a lot of negative reinforcement over the years. With a lot of bravery she is exposing her limitations and getting use to sorting, c...reating an ordered pattern, discriminating size and denomination, making repeated attempts , getting use to the touch and feel of coins . With a huge focus on fun , we have graded her program from a timid , slow, uncertain engagement to a speed challenge. Here we use a group of same coins (14 of all denominations) for 5 timed attempts and with encouragement and cheering and pats on the back we aim for personal bests. This challenge used all denominations and variety of quantities so lots of decisions to be made (sometimes we will exclude some denominations to make it easier) , for this set we went from 30s to a fast 20s in this video with an aim to be super fast . As skills continue to improve quantity of coins goes up , and eventually add some background distraction (for some distracting entertainment) to help develop focus and concentration. This not only a cognitive and fine motor experience, but an experience to develop confidence and embrace the emotional challenge to prove to her family she can do this . You go girl !
