22.01.2022 ECCV stands in solidarity with the First Nations people of Australia, whose land we live, love and work on. We are committed to listening to and learning from A...boriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about the pain and injustice they have endured throughout 250 years of racist policies and practices in Australia. Through the All One Together campaign, ECCV approaches anti-racism work through a systemic lens. We feel that this approach is more important than ever in the context of the current global movement for equity and justice. The ECCV marks the #RefugeeWeek2020 through the release of this special campaign video featuring high-profile Australians from refugee and migrant backgrounds sharing their stories and talking about the impacts of racism and discrimination. We hope you can engage with the stories shared here and reflect on how we can live in a safe and inclusive society together. #AllOneTogether #TakeDownRacism #YearofWelcome A very special thanks to Khadija Gbla, Hung Le, Betul Tuna and Akec Makur Chuoth for sharing their stories and to Think HQ for helping us capture it so beautifully. The ECCVs All One Together Campaign is funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, State Government of Victoria

19.01.2022 For the past 20 years, you've changed Christmas for local families in need by donating toys, games, clothes and food to the Geelong Giving Tree Appeal. We've a...lways been blown away by the generosity of our community. This year, we've had to change the way our appeal runs so we can keep everyone COVID safe. We're asking you to donate money to the value of what you would've spent on a donated gift. What hasn't changed is the impact your donation makes to families in need. Money from the appeal will be exchanged for gift cards so the vulnerable families we work with can buy Christmas gifts for their children and themselves. For many, this could be the only way they can afford to put gifts under their trees. We’ve partnered with bay 93.9 Geelong, BCYF Barwon Child, Youth & Family and The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre to change Christmas for locals in need. Donate online until December 1: geelonggivingtree.org.au #GeelongTogether #GeelongGivingTree

Diversitat supports the Inter-Agency Statement on Violence against Women and Girls in the Context of COVID-19. The statement calls for action in the following six key areas:... 1. Make urgent and flexible funding available for women’s rights organisations and recognise their role as first responders. 2. Support health and social services to continue their duty of care to violence against women survivors and to remain accessible, especially to those most likely to be left behind. 3. Ensure that services for violence against women and girl survivors are regarded as essential, remain open and are resourced and made accessible especially to those most likely to be left behind. 4. Place a high priority on police and justice responses. 5. Put preventative measures in place. 6. Collect data only if it is clear that it is needed, it will be used to improve services/programmes and ethical and safety standards can be met.

All Australians have a role to play in responding to racism, by calling it out when they see it, standing in solidarity with affected people and communities, and celebrating our rich multicultural diversity.... Information and support is available at australia.gov.au/helpstopracism, and in a range of community languages at covid19inlanguage.homeaffairs.gov.au/racism-not-acceptable.

12.01.2022 This #RefugeeWeek2020 is a little different today Diversitat staff came together online to hear some incredible stories from Geelongs refugees and to acknowledge how refugees and asylum seekers enrich our community. Refugees like Yousef, who came to Australia from Syria in 2017. In 2012 I was preparing for Year 12 when the demonstrations started in Aleppo.... A few months later when we were in school the whole room vibrated, the doors and the windows of the class opened and we heard a massive explosion. After that day Aleppo began to be dangerous city. Under the risk of kidnapping, missiles, bombs. I, along with many other students, fathers, mothers, elders and kids had no choice but to live our life constantly on the move. Watch Yousef talk about his experience arriving in Geelong: Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia - FECCA Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria

03.01.2022 You arrive in a foreign country but you have no bank account, no credit history, no personal references and no English language skills. You have escaped a war zone, survived a refugee camp but now somehow you have to find safe and secure accommodation for your children in the midst of a pandemic. This is the unbelievable challenge that is facing refugees and people seeking asylum in Geelong. For new arrivals, it is almost impossible to find a home in difficult rental market ...without help. This is where Diversitat comes in. As the provider of the Humanitarian Settlement Program in Geelong, last year Diversitat assisted over 400 refugees and people seeking asylum to find rental housing in their new home town. This included 198 children and young people. The future of this housing program was in jeopardy until the Geelong Community Foundation made the decision to invest $80,000 in this essential service.
