25.01.2022 This morning I visited Federation Park with my two little Westies ... brilliant way to wear them out! Community parks, gardens and facilities should be accessible to all of us. I live in Montville, so having a park for the puppies just down the hill is fabulous.

25.01.2022 Supporting our local small businesses as they begin to emerge after our last few months of challenges is critical. I was absolutely spoilt at lunch today at a special local venue - so lovely to enjoy a few hours out!

24.01.2022 Thank you to Maleny Commerce for welcoming Division 5 Candidates to your AGM and meeting yesterday. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to share how my experiences will help add value to our business community as an elected member for the region. Below I have included a copy of my speech and commitments to the local business community across our hinterland division. ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 The Electoral Commissioner of Queensland has decided to extend Early Voting hours as follows: Week 1 Wednesday, 18 March and Thursday 19, March 9.00 am to 9.00 pm Week 1 Saturday, 21 March 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Week 2 Wednesday 25, March and Thursday, 26 March 9.00 am to 9.00 pm... The above hours will apply to Early Voting Centres at Nambour, Caloundra, Birtinya, and Maroochydore. Extended polling hours will not apply to Early Voting centres at Beerwah, Maleny, Buderim and Coolum. The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) believes these extended hours will provide additional service to the bulk of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council area.

23.01.2022 As a local government candidate I've received many emails and contacts from people over past months. I've also received a range of surveys and questions to seek my position in relation to particular issues. A few weeks ago an important one passed through - from the Alliance for Gambling Reform (Pokies Play You). For anyone considering whether they should vote for me please note that I have a very strong position in relation to gambling and pokie machines. ... I oppose any future casino on the Sunshine Coast and I will be advocating for a significant reduction of pokie machines across our region. The cost to our community and our children is too significant to ignore. I have personal experiences as an adult living with a gambling addict and having extended family members who were addicts. I will do whatever I can to use my voice to reduce and remove gambling from our immediate community. I've included the link to the reform website below for those who are interested.

23.01.2022 Early start this morning to share my action plan across our region. If you find a flyer in your letterbox or front door I’ve hand delivered it. Please call, email or message me anytime to tell me what matters to you.

23.01.2022 We may have lots of expanse, peaks and valleys in our vast division ... but when the rain stops and we can door knocking the vistas are stunning.

22.01.2022 VOTE FOR 2020 VISION On March 28 you will need to decide who to trust as your council representative. Why should you trust me? 22.01.2022 Hi all On March 28 our community will decide who will represent them at the next Sunshine Coast Council elections. I am running for Division 5.... I am looking for people who will hand out how to vote cards on polling booths for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated - you will be helping me help our community. A link to my volunteer form is below:

22.01.2022 The Electoral Commission has confirmed that the Queensland Local Government Elections will go ahead. Prepolling began this week. For many people it will be important to keep a distance from others. ... To respect this option I am including a copy of my How To Vote Card below. I am also not planning on having anyone other than myself manning pre-polling booths at this stage - it's important to me to keep my friends and family safe. As I can only be in one place at a time I am asking you also to share this important information. Please share this with anyone who you feel may be uncomfortable in taking a card from myself or others on booths - safety first. Please keep safe everyone. Best wishes Tracie Sanim

21.01.2022 On March 28 our community will decide who to trust to represent them at the Sunshine Coast Council Elections. 19.01.2022 BE PART OF SHAPING OUR COMMUNITY'S FUTURE MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL: Nominations closing soon for the Sunshine Coast Community Strategy Leadership Group... Sunshine Coast Council is inviting expressions of interest from community representatives to become a part of the Sunshine Coast Community Strategy Leadership Group, and nominations close on Friday, February 28. A community heart and a strategic mind are two of the essential ingredients for those who want to play a leadership role in driving the implementation of council’s Sunshine Coast Community Strategy 2019-2041. The Leadership Group will help to lead and guide the delivery of the Strategy’s objectives and activities and also track and report on progress and the impacts of implemented actions. The aim is for the Leadership Group to consist of members that reflect our community values and aspirations, including subject matter experts, community representatives, council and other government representatives. Group members will work with council to engage other levels of government, community and business organisations in implementation activities and provide expert advice to support the achievement of the Strategy’s objectives. The group will help council to track and promote the benefits and impacts of the Community Strategy and provide advice to council on associated policies, plans, programs and services. Membership is open to: any community representative who lives on the Sunshine Coast; representatives of government, community groups, organisations, agencies and service providers who have a focus on provision of human and community services; specialists and academics on social planning, community development and engagement. Members will be asked to participate voluntarily and be available to meet on a monthly basis, or as determined by the Leadership Group. For more information about the Community Strategy Leadership Group, requirements for membership, and to submit an Expression of Interest visit council’s website or call 5475 7272. Expression of Interest nominations close on February 28. Nominations will be assessed by a panel of independent members and council representatives. Successful applicants will be notified during April, with the inaugural meeting of the Leadership Group scheduled to take place in May.

18.01.2022 Today was Councillor Jenny McKay's final day with the Sunshine Coast Council. Jenny has left a 20-year legacy - with many proud achievements. Her dedication and commitment to long long hours to support our community should be commended. Whomever steps into the role she is leaving will have big shoes to fill. ... I hope that the incoming councillor will support Jenny's legacy and at the very least include and acknowledge her work as the next stage of her many passion projects is reached.

18.01.2022 The Sunshine Coast Council announced its councillor portfolios yesterday. This means that each councillor is responsible for specific focus areas as well as the communities within their division. As community members, if we have particular areas of interest it is helpful to know which councillors are responsible for which focus area of council operations. ... The allocation is: Mayor Mark Jamieson: Region Shaping Projects, Regional Advocacy and Intergovernmental Relations Cr Rick Baberowski and Cr David Law: Community Cr Peter Cox and Cr Maria Suarez: Environment and Liveability Cr Terry Landsberg and Cr Jason O’Pray: Economy Cr Christian Dickson and Cr Winston Johnston: Service Excellence Cr Ted Hungerford and Cr Joe Natoli: Outstanding Organisation. Cr Hungerford and Cr Natoli were also approved as members of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Audit Committee.

18.01.2022 Running a political campaign for the first time within the challenge of COVID-19 has been an eyeopener. What has occurred to me is that as local government candidates we all say that we are firmly focused on community-first. The past week in particular has shown how committed we really each are to community and each other rather than ourselves and personal gain. I am happy that the Queensland Electoral Commission has decided to take firm action to remove candidates and thei...r volunteers from voting sites. I hope our candidates and support teams genuinely take note of the intent as well as the directive of these measures and that we take the opportunity to demonstrate fairness, equity and kindness to everyone who is part of this process. To all candidates and friends that I have made during this process - this is our time to show leadership and that we truly mean community first. Best wishes to all. 18.01.2022 An introduction to Tracie Sanim - independent candidate for Division 5

18.01.2022 Interesting video ....

17.01.2022 It has just been announced that the Sunshine Coast Council's CEO Michael Whittaker has resigned - effective immediately. I'll be posting more on this issue later.

17.01.2022 Thank you Maleny Chicks in Biz for welcoming me to breakfast this morning. The stories of how members intertwine their lives and passions to create business opportunities is inspiring. As a mum, grandmother, post grad student, volunteer and sole trader sometimes it seems I may be a little crazy - but your stories all resonated with me. I can’t wait to meet everyone again next month!

17.01.2022 You are about to determine who will best represent our community for the next four years at a local government level. Don't be swayed by big-spending marketing campaigns and bold brassy signs spamming our landscape at every turn. Don't cast a vote that is bought and paid for. Look beneath the surface. Choose a person with current skills and experience. Choose a candidate who has the energy and commitment to support you beyond one term.... Your incoming councillor should have expertise across all levels of government. She should have strong skills and values across building transparency, community engagement and governance. Just as importantly, our community needs a councillor who recognises and drives innovation - across waste management, water use, economic development, sustainability and more. Make your vote truly count on March 28.

16.01.2022 Community transparency is one of the most talked-about issues across our Division and the broader Sunshine Coast. Community transparency isn't simply about live streaming council meetings - that is simply too little too late. Building transparency isn't about WHAT council does its about HOW council does it. In the attached link I provide some information and perspectives on how to transform our approach and ensure our community is included in issues that affect them. ... I am a candidate with decades of experience in building transparency and community inclusion across government agencies. If you believe in building transparency into government vote 1 for Tracie Sanim at the Sunshine Coast Council elections. https://traciesanim.com.au/community-transparency/

16.01.2022 TELEPHONE VOTING HOTLINE 1300 912 782 If you, your mum or dad or your grandparents are elderly, in isolation, sick, disabled, or physically unable to get in and vote, give this number a go. 14.01.2022 Want to know more about each of the candidates for Division 5? We all took part in a forum with the ABC today. Thank you to the ABC Sunshine Coast for committing so much time and energy in creating these forums.

14.01.2022 As candidates we have to be accountable for how we behave during the elections. Honesty and integrity are critical and demonstrate how we will behave as community representatives. Always look beneath the surface - ask the right questions and do your independent research before voting.

13.01.2022 Last night I attended an event with the Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce Inc. where our four Mayoral Candidates had the opportunity to speak to the key issues of the region. A number of the issues raised were beyond the remit of local government - for instance major infrastructure development to support our significant residential growth. This infrastructure may include arterial and major roads, schools and public transport (buses and trains). This infrastructure is c...ritical to our community and its as frustrating for local government as it is for our community to be playing chicken and egg games. As candidates and as voters our challenge is to understand what we are promising and expecting our local government representatives to do. While the Sunshine Coast Council is not directly responsible for major roads, buses and trains etc etc we still play a role in confirming these community issues and advocating for State and Federal government to provide these key community requirements. The night was an interesting one - lots of great information however it also clearly showed the personalities and approaches of both our candidates for division 1 and 5 as well as the mayoral candidates. The personalities - or attributes - of the people we vote in are also very important. Honesty, integrity, fairness, logic, the ability to collaborate are just some of the attributes that will be very important to succeed in our council in representing our community.

12.01.2022 With the Sunshine Coast Council election campaign coming to a close on Saturday I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support and feedback over the past months. With our COVID-19 current crisis beginning to ramp up I have decided to share information that I normally come across in the course of my business to our Division 5 community - which includes many small businesses. Building regional resilience and small business capability has been a long time pa...ssion of mine. So ... for the coming weeks and longer if needed I will share information and I am also happy to chat and offer advice to any micro/ small business owner who needs an ear or a fresh perspective. Below is an event which will be hosted on Facebook. Best wishes to all

11.01.2022 Is your small business working to navigate our uncertain world? Perhaps there may be a way through - some potential solutions may be found here. As a sole trader I know how difficult coming months will be for many micro and small businesses - if anyone needs advice or support please PM me and I am happy to share some tips.

11.01.2022 Quite clearly we are living in a time of uncertainty - of flux. This means its more important than ever to choose a councillor who has experience in working in times of crisis. Choose a councillor to represent our Division 5 villages who has current and relevant experiences and qualifications.

11.01.2022 We are living in unprecedented times - which means we now have to take extra care. Our Sunshine Coast Council elections will continue with prepolling today and next week and the Local Government 2020 Election officially on Saturday 28 March. Today I will be at the Maleny, Queensland prepolling booth at the Maleny Community Centre. ... All candidates will now share their information a little differently in order to help ensure all our safety. Last night new measures and expectations were introduced by the Queensland Electoral Commission. They are below: The Electoral Commissioner hereby issues the following Directions to all persons distributing a how-to-vote card and/or other election material: All such persons attending a polling booth must maintain hygiene standards, in accordance with Queensland Health guidelines; All such persons must not shake hands, or attempt to shake hands, with electors as they are entering or waiting to enter a polling booth; All such persons must maintain social distancing while near a polling booth by staying 1.5 metres away from other people; Candidates, political parties and other electoral participants must actively attempt to minimise the number of workers engaging in these activities at a polling booth; and Where available, candidates, political parties and other electoral participants should make use of alternate how-to-vote card and election material distribution methods, including static display, use of a common collection point, or electronic distribution to electors away from a polling booth. Keep safe everyone.

11.01.2022 Tracie is an upstanding community member who gives her own time, and willingly shares her knowledge and experiences with others to support them to be successful.... Her passion for innovation and community runs deep. I believe Tracie will be an excellent advocate for her electorate and an asset to the Sunshine Coast Council as a whole. See more

11.01.2022 Geographically, Division 5 is by far the largest division in the Sunshine Coast Council region. It is also the most diverse, with a mix of agriculture, tourism, industrial, accommodation, towns and villages with people of all ages and all demographics. I have a lot of experience delivering roles where I have worked alongside communities with this type of makeup. I have many ideas about how I would like to move our division and our broader council region forward - and I am lu...cky that my professional experience in local, state and federal government means I will be well positioned to successfully implement these ideas. Firstly though I would like to get back to basics - the basics of local government. We need to focus on improving our roads, footpaths and local community facilities while also being smarter about key services such as waste management. I am not going to make promises to deliver services that are beyond the scope of local government - or projects that have a significant financial price tag. Every promise we make as elected members has a cost - and many times that cost is financial. For every $2 million promise our ratepayers are potentially facing a 1 per cent rate rise. My focus instead will be on working smarter, reducing debt . And instead of taking on more State and Federal initiatives I will look for ways for our council to ensure your rate dollars are put to the most effective use.

11.01.2022 Back to school today...... feeling relieved but also mindful of the fact that the safety of our kids is paramount on our community streets. An element of road safety is the responsibility of local government - ensuring our roads are well maintained and to a standard that supports traffic flow. Parking availability, visibility and traffic calming are other issues we work with schools, their communities and other key stakeholders on. As your Division 5 Councillor I will be working towards assessing our local streets where schools are located to determine the improvements we should be implementing to protect our children.

11.01.2022 Early start today! I am your independent candidate for Division 5. I am also a mum, a small business owner and a volunteer.... My campaign is completely independent and I am responsible for all aspects of it. I do not have a team of volunteers behind me. I believe that if you commit to representing our community then this begins with showing you are capable of doing this from the very beginning. I design and write my own flyers. I built my own website. And I am walking each and every street in our Division myself to door knock and pop information about the elections into your letterboxes. This morning I am hoping to beat the rain!!

10.01.2022 While we are all in a state of flux it doesn't mean tools down. Use this time to adapt your business and future proof it. It all begins with customer intelligence. I've offered a simple approach and example of "customer intelligence" to suit sole traders, micro and small businesses in this blog. Keep safe everyone.... Best wishes Tracie

10.01.2022 What do you think? A $667 parking fine seems a little more than excessive. While many fees and charges set by council seem fair and reasonable there are a couple that seem to be disproportionate to the cost of implementing the fee or charge. ... On March 28 you will vote for your next local government representatives. If I am selected by our community I will seek for our elected members to review all fees and charges towards ensuring they are fair and reasonable. #Vote1TracieSanimDivision5

08.01.2022 Thank you Montville Chamber of Commerce and Elements at Montville for a fantastic meeting once again yesterday. It is a privilege to be on the committee of such a proactive and engaged community - I always leave our meetings full of energy and inspiration! And the food was a delicious as it looks!

07.01.2022 When dinner disappears it’s a little confusing!!! Birds safely inside - we learned our lesson from the attacking rats! #hinterlandliving

05.01.2022 So important to continue to support local businesses at this time. A Saturday afternoon treat at Wild Rocket at Misty's Micro Brewery for my loyal campaign volunteers!

05.01.2022 We need more strong, but compassionate women in council and Tracie is that woman. She has a wealth of experience in this arena and is top to toe full of integrity and drive to get the job done. Let's make some changes!

05.01.2022 Queensland’s Small Business Champion Maree Adshead has compiled an important list for small business operators during this time of crisis. If you have any questions or are looking for anything in particular please let me know and I will do what I can to help. Tracie

04.01.2022 Candidate corflute roadside signs - eyesores or eye catching? As potential councillors its to all of our benefits to listen to the community. I've spent and will spend much more time over coming weeks and weekends speaking with our village communities to find out what matters to them.... I think though that it is important to prove that we are listening to our community also in terms of how we approach our campaigns. So - I would like to know what our community thinks about corflutes - the roadside signs that candidates are beginning to put up. My personal view is that they are distracting for drivers and are not a smart choice environmentally. They are also subject to vandalism. But what you think is more important - so please vote so I can make a decision. Standard corflute cannot be recycled in comingled recycling, but can be recycled via specialist services. If corflute has been re-skinned, it cannot be recycled through any method due to the adhesives used. Lightweight and durable recyclable options are increasingly becoming available, ask your supplier for the best options for the environment. Vinyl is often used for its durability and can often be reused or repurposed, however it cannot be recycled. Please take the time to respond to my poll and I will listen to and comply with the community's feedback

04.01.2022 NEW COVID-19 HOTLINE A support hotline has now opened for vulnerable Queenslanders in COVID-19 quarantine. If you are in quarantine within your home as a result of COVID-19 you are able to access advice, information and support through the Queensland Government’s Community Recovery Hotline. ... While most people have been able to make their own arrangements for self-quarantine some people who are in quarantine may not be able to organise the delivery of essential food and medications they may need. These people will now be able to contact the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349 Support staff will work with partner organisations to arrange non-contact delivery of essential food and medication to people in quarantine who have no other means of support. The Community Recovery Hotline may also be used by people who chose to self-isolate to ask for social and emotional telephone support.

03.01.2022 Thank you Wendy Boardman for supporting my commitment to our community!

03.01.2022 Small business is at the heart of the Sunshine Coast. Without a successful small business culture our community is at risk. One in five of our workforce are self employed - around 22 per cent compared with a national average of 15 per cent. This means the ways in which each of our levels of governments work to support local business are critical. ... There are a number of measures I would like to ensure that the Sunshine Coast Council implements in supporting local business. It's not enough to say there is a "buy local" policy. Broadly, my thoughts are: - The Council needs to review its preferred supplier arrangements to ensure all businesses regularly have the opportunity to compete to be included in this list. At the moment, if Council decision-makers opt to roll-over a current listing rather than going out to market every two or so years they just do so. This excludes new businesses that we say we want in the region and means that the council isn't considering or learning about new capabilities and services that may support council operations. - In awarding major contracts a risk management framework should be applied to ensure a) A contractor has the capability and resources to deliver the works at hand b) That one contractor is not receiving the lion's share of council contract opportunities in the field - using various contractors means the risk is spread c) That arrangements are in place and a condition of the contract that all subcontractors are paid on agreed milestones. Evidence should be supplied that the subcontractors are paid for their works. If a contractor refuses or fails to do this they should be struck from the preferred suppliers list - Quarterly financial reports should be provided to council to ensure all suppliers and subcontractors are paid and that the preferred contractor or supplier has the financial capacity to deliver the project and its obligations. Further to this, I believe we should implement a "weighting" system in the assessment of tender applications to support local businesses. Obviously there should be criteria around building local employment and skills as well. Finally, the council should work with our business community to help small businesses build the capacity and capability to compete for publicly funded projects where possible. Of course there will be projects that we simply do not have access to local expertise to deliver - but we should be working towards this. Our local government, our locally paid rates and our locally paid taxes should be directed where possible to supporting local businesses to deliver these key government services. As your local elected member for Division 5 I will seek a review and implementation of new and improved measures as described above. #Vote1TracieSanimDivision5

03.01.2022 Tonight I am at a long table dinner in Montville Village - our wonderful community. Thank you to the @montvillevillageassociation for organising such a fabulous night. I brought one of my boards of treats!

03.01.2022 Nambour hitting a high note!

03.01.2022 OUR CLIMATE EMERGENCY - what do you think? Do you believe that climate change is occurring and that our global community is responsible for its increasing rate of occurrence? In declaring a climate emergency (which I believe we should) I believe that council should implement its own actions as well as take on a number of other actions to inform and educate our local residents and businesses. ...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Worth listening to

02.01.2022 Morning all I just wanted to touch base to thank everyone who has supported or taken the time to contact me during my campaign to represent our Division 5 community for the next four years with the Sunshine Coast Council. Unfortunately I have not been successful in securing the role as your councillor. ... That said - I am proud that I may be placing third in the field of 10 after preferences are counted. The top candidate - Winston Johnston - ran a $30,000 campaign with 100 volunteers and our second candidate Tracy Burton also had the support and resources of the Greens Party. I was a campaign team of one with very limited resources and I do recognise that I am a relatively new resident on the Sunshine Coast and in our community. When I consider all of this I cannot be disappointed at this outcome. Though I have not been successful in this campaign I would still like to support our community as an individual. I am happy to volunteer advice and support in any matters relating to local government that is affecting our community - therefore I will retain my social media presence (though this page has been slightly renamed). I will keep up with the news and opportunities for our community and share as much as I can. Once again - thank you everyone and I hope that our Division has the success it deserves in our council chambers over the next four years. Best wishes Tracie

02.01.2022 It seems that for our local news from here on in we will only be able to access it on line - the Sunshine Coast Daily will no longer be available in a print edition.

01.01.2022 HELP!!!!! This particular election for Division 5 on the Sunshine Coast is such an important one with Jenny Mackay retiring. Our 10 candidates are very diverse, however I believe that I offer the strongest skills and attributes alongside longevity and a whole of division focus for our community. I am the only candidate who is completely running every element of the campaign myself - I do not have a team of volunteers or a campaign manager. My most significant challenge is th...at one candidate has so far spent $25,000 on advertising and marketing and also has a contingent of 100 volunteers. It will be a great stretch for me to compete in such an imbalanced playing field. Next week pre-polling begins - we have two weeks ahead with more than 50 per cent of the voting expected to occur over pre-polling. On polling day we also have 10 booths to man. I have decided to ask all my Facebook friends who live locally - if you would support me via volunteering on polling booths sometime over the next few weeks. PREPOLLING BEGINS ON MONDAY - IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE PM ME See more
