20.01.2022 The following video is an example of why YOU need to have your wood heater chimney/flue inspected and cleaned yearly! Luckily in this case a chimney sweep/woodh...eater serviceman was passing the home and noticed the fire, allowing it to be extinguished before the home suffered any major damage. In 2017 CFA attended 121 chimney fires which is almost 10% of the preventable house fires CFA attended in Victoria. Many of these caused major damage or loss of the entire home. Chimney fires are caused by the accumulation of creosote. During normal use creosote builds up as a coating and when subjected to the normal heat from a fire it can eventually become thick enough to ignite with a very real potential of starting a fire. The very big risk with these fires is that they normally start in the roof space or wall cavity above smoke alarms, this means they can go undetected until they have grown to be substantial, causing major structural damage, the loss of your home or worse, lives. To prevent chimney fires we recommend all wood heater chimneys and flues are inspected and cleaned every 12 months by qualified personnel according to the manufacturers instructions. Note: Creosote is not only caused by general use, but it can also build up quicker if you are using incorrect fuels, such as green wood or treated timbers. Thanks to Ash from Chimaney Charoo for the video! For more home fire safety information please visit the CFA website here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home #ServiceYourHeaters #PreventHouseFires

17.01.2022 PLEASE slow down when approaching vehicles with flashing lights warning you of a potentially dangerous situation. Our sympathy to the families & friends of those that have died in the course of serving the community. Four police officers have been killed after a truck collision on a Melbourne freeway. Emergency services were called to a collision on the Eastern Freeway near the Chandler Highway at Kew after a truck reportedly ploughed into a police car.... It is understood the police officers had pulled over a vehicle in the emergency lane when the incident happened. The truck driver has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four police officers have been confirmed dead after a smash at Kew. The Police Association Victoria says it is shocked and immensely saddened by the officers’ deaths. We are providing immediate and ongoing support to the colleagues and families of those members, it said in a statement. This is a brutally sad reminder of the danger police face in the course of their service, every minute of every shift. We mourn their loss, we grieve with their families and colleagues and we will never forget them.

15.01.2022 Everyone who comes to work, whether it be firey, ambo, police, we want to go home at the end of the day, and we don’t want something which would be a minor acc...ident at 40km/h to be a catastrophe at 80km/h, 90km/h or 100km/h. For emergency services workers, the roadside is part of the office. That’s why we’re asking everyone to think about their safety and slow to 40km/h when passing emergency services vehicles.
