25.01.2022 Okay, clearly there was a problematic private life there, to say the least, but the hits he made were fabulous and he certainly made his mark on the world of music. https://www.abc.net.au//phil-spector-music-produ/13065684

25.01.2022 ...or almost..... Morning all! Normally Dixon’s is closed on Cup Day and other public holidays, but we’ve just come out of an extended closed period, so tomorrow we’ve decided to open up, albeit with reduced hours. ... Thus, the shop will be open tomorrow as follows: Blackburn 12.00-5.00 Fitzroy 12.00-4.00 Please note we are still not buying, probably the end of the month for that! Have fun! - Doug

24.01.2022 And another great gone. https://www.rollingstone.com//johnny-nash-obituary-10719/

23.01.2022 Okay folks, the floors are washed, the racks are dusted, we’ve put out more stuff for you, I think we are ready to go!

22.01.2022 Picks up about a minute in! https://youtu.be/-UYgORr5Qhg

22.01.2022 Hmmmm, certainly some good albums here, but what do you folks think? Any major omissions, or is this on the money? Selling England By The Pound instead of The Lamb, for instance? https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stor/best-prog-rock-albums/

21.01.2022 We have added a nice big batch of CDs to the Dixons Fitzroy Sale! group. #cds ##mailorder We’ll keep adding new items everyday. LPs, CDs, DVDs and books. Email [email protected] to place an order.

21.01.2022 Both shops are back and open! 10-5pm SATURDAY and 12-5pm SUNDAY

21.01.2022 Hello folks! Well, we’re back! Lockdown ends in a day and a bit, so we will be back open on Wednesday! Yippee! A few points:... 1) We have had skeleton staff on the premises during lockdown in order to process the mail orders and phone orders. In the quiet times, they have also managed to price stuff for the racks. For instance, Fitzroy have filled up their Jazz racks, while here at Blackburn we have put out over 3000 lps of all sorts of music. The 50s/60s 45s rack has also increased by nearly 3000 titles. Who knew our backlog was that massive? ( Worringly, it’s still not gone, but I digress...). Anyway, there’s a lot more stuff in the racks since we were last open! 2) Important point - We won’t be buying for the first few weeks. Sorry about that, but basically our coffers are low, and we have to build up some savings and pay a few bills first. We will probably be buying again late November, but watch this space, I’ll announce it here. Or here. 3) Obviously pandemic laws still apply. The wearing of masks in the stores is compulsory, and we ask that people observe social distancing from staff and other customers. We will also have a recommended number of people allowed in the store at any given moment. Please don’t travel more than 25kms to visit at the moment. Maps of the 25 km radius for each store are above for your convenience! 4) Store hours : for the time being, the store hours as as follows Blackburn: Mon-Thurs 10-5 Fri 10-7 Sat 10-5 Sun 12-5 Fitzroy: Mon-Thurs 10-5 Fri 10-6 Sat 10-5 Sun 12-5 Thanks for your patience. We’re looking forward to seeing you guys again! Thanks - Doug

20.01.2022 Howdy folks! Hope you’re all coping with the heat today. Quick word about tomorrow. It’s a public holiday,so both Dixon’s are shut, which will hopefully give them time to cool down again for Wednesday. Have fun! - Doug

20.01.2022 Meanwhile, in America, vinyl outsells CDs this year so far. This is in $ terms, not in number of units, so given that vinyl costs a lot more than CDs do these days, I would imagine CD numbers are still okay. I wonder if covid has affected these figures in any way? Digital downloads are probably tempting for people in lockdown? What do you folks think? https://www.theguardian.com//vinyl-records-outsell-cds-in-

19.01.2022 Terrible news just announced.

19.01.2022 It’s so good to have the doors open again! Lovely to see so many people in the store already too Good on you Melbourne!

19.01.2022 Okay, this years not starting out too good at all. Some sad news for Metal fans. https://www.mirror.co.uk//breaking-alexi-laiho-dead-childr

18.01.2022 How do you folks file your music? Personally I go alphabetical, but then I put Robert Fripp at the end of the King Crimson section, so I’m not entirely consistent... Edit - forgot to mention, chronological after band alphabetical! It’s the only way!

14.01.2022 One for the slightly less younger folks out there.

14.01.2022 Well, crap......

14.01.2022 Something a bit cheerier. An old French And Saunders sketch with the best bunch of surprise musical guests ever seen in a comedy show!

11.01.2022 We've got lots of cool stuff on our Discogs and Ebay stores. Including this uber rare 3x LP copy of NIN: The Fragile which I listed on Discogs today - $99.95 ...I doubt it will last long...link to the Discogs shop is in the bio, no holds just hit buy

10.01.2022 Well, that’s a terribly sad piece of news to wake up too. I still remember seeing Van Halen on Countdown for the first time. The clip for ‘You Really Got Me’ just blew me away. It was fresh, fun, vital, and clearly the sound of a new wave of metal. R.I.P. to a guitar innovator. https://www.news.com.au///c01e5dceea7df03b44269ea56ecc9442

08.01.2022 Quick post - our entire email server seems to be down, and it looks like it’s been down since maybe Saturday. Telstra hasn’t been much help, so if you are trying to contact us through emails, maybe ring the shops instead. Blackburn - 9894-1844 Fitzroy - 9416-2272... Thanks! - Doug

07.01.2022 A sad days for country fans. https://celebrity.nine.com.au//a06939fc-63ac-420a-9061-70c

06.01.2022 Hello everyone! Hey, remember World Record Store Day 2020? I don’t, but it turns out we ordered a few releases for that day, and some actually turned up. They are just hitting the racks at Blackburn this afternoon, so if any of you have missed any of these, come on down! First come first served, and yes, that’s all the titles we have. Have fun! - Doug

05.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing live music again one day...

04.01.2022 Check those bargain bins folks, Mariah Carey anonymously released an indie rock album 25 years ago! https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm

04.01.2022 Hello everyone! Well, as we all know, stage four restrictions kick in on Wednesday night, so from Thursday onwards both Dixon’s stores will be closed for at least six weeks. However, our mail order department will still be running from Blackburn, so if you’re after anything we will be able to send it to you. Our online branches are:... Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/Dixons_Records Ebay - http://stores.ebay.com.au/DixonsRecords?_trksid=p4340.l2563 Check them out, there’s some nice stuff there. Also, we can also mail out stock from the Blackburn racks, so please feel free to ask what we have got. Please note, enquiries might take a day or two to answer, as obviously we won’t have someone onsite all the time! Any online enquiries can be sent through Discogs, Ebay, or to [email protected] . Please don’t message through Facebook, as that might not be noticed at the moment, or might only be read by someone who is at home. And that’s it. Hopefully we will be back up and running in six weeks, so until then take care of yourselves, stay healthy, and be good to one another! Good luck! - Doug

02.01.2022 Quick public service announcement folks! Daylight savings starts tonight, so remember to put your clocks forward an hour. That’s one hour less of 2020 - WIN!!!
