22.01.2022 Following extensive industry consultation new legislation came into effect in December 2019 called the Road Vehicles Standards Act (RVSA). This ensures that the 1989 Motor Vehicle Standards Act better reflects the significant changes in global and domestic vehicle markets and improvements in vehicle technologies over the last few decades. In summary, all towable RV products under ATM 4.5 tonnes that are manufactured above 4 units annually will be required to be: covered by... a Type Approval from the Federal Government entered onto a Federal Government register of Approved Vehicles" Prior to the vehicle being registered. Without these steps the vehicle will not be registered for use on the roads. For DIY Caravans customers building less than 4 units per year, they will be immune from these requirements of a Type Approval and the Register of Approved Vehicles. Your Registration Process will be dealt with by the State Road Authorities (largely as it is now) although they may be required to be physically inspected at a Government approved facility against Federal Compliance. DIY Caravans takes Compliance very seriously and recommends you have your project certified by a Qualified Engineer after completion prior to registering it in your state. This certificate will demonstrate the project complies with VSB1 and any other relevant standards.
