19.01.2022 Here is the TMG Dahl recipe that so many of you guys have been asking for! . Ive made this for the family about three times and is a new family favourite! Its such an easy recipe that can easily be tweaked depending on what ingredients you have at home. . Ingredients... * 1 tablespoon ghee or olive oil * 1 onion (finely chopped) * 2 cloves garlic (finely chopped) * 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (finely grated) * 1 cup dried red lentils (rinsed and picked over) * 1 diced carrots * Keens curry powder (my fav; or any other) * 4 cups water * 1-2 two cubes of massel vegetable or chicken stock to taste * Salt and pepper to taste . Optional ingredients * 1 tsp fresh or dry Tumeric * Dahl spice blend (can be found in Coles) * Fenugreek leaves * 1 chopped tomato . Method 1. Fry the onion, garlic, ginger and turmeric (optional) in the olive oil until the onions are soft. * Add the lentils, carrots, curry powder, dahl spice blend (optional), turmeric (optional), fenugreek leaves (optional) and fry for 2 minutes, stirring continuously. * Pour in water, add tomato and crumble the stock into it as well. Cook for about 30 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally, making sure the dahl does not stick to the bottom of the pan. Add more water and stock if required. * Season with salt and pepper to taste. * Add chopped spinach and/or cabbage or any other soft vegetables at the end of cooking and stir through for two minutes before removing from heat. . Enjoy guys! This recipe is such a wonderful base and will help you feel more comfortable making other dahl recipes. 19.01.2022 Need something nourishing to get through whats left of winter? Try this delicious bowl of congee! . Congee is traditionally made with white rice but weve used pre-cooked brown rice and quinoa instead. This will not only speed up the cooking time, but dramatically increase the level of fibre, protein and iron in this dish, making it a fantastically nutritious option . If you or your little one is not feeling well this season, give this recipe a go!... . Ingredients: 60g chicken stock powder 2 L boiling water 2 garlic cloves (finely chopped) 2 tsp grated ginger 2 spring onions (thinly sliced, seperate the white and green parts) 3 Tbs of coriander (clean and finely chopped, reserve leaves for garnishing) 2 sachets Brown Basmati rice and quinoa 400g free range chicken tenderloins . Garnish with: 40g roaster peanuts 1 Tbs sesame oil 1-2 Tbs soy sauce . Method: 1. Combine stock and boiling water in a large saucepan. . 2. Add all ingredients EXCEPT for chicken and garnishes into the saucepan. Bring to the boil then reduce to medium and cover with a lid. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. . 3. Add chicken and cook for 2-3 mins until just cooked through. Remove and set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Increase to medium high and cook mixture uncovered for a further 5 minutes or until it thickens. . 4. Shred chicken and chop the roasted peanuts. . 5. Depending on your preferred texture you may use a stick blender to pulse the rice mixture a couple of time to break some of the grains but do not over-process. . 6. Top with chicken and garnishes and enjoy! . 19.01.2022 . . Todays society is increasingly becoming a generation of poorly postured individuals. . .... What are we moving to lubing? Neck . . Who should do this? Everyone! . Leaning over a computer screen, scrolling through Facebook and slouching on the couch in front of the TV is becoming the norm of day-to-day life. . This prolonged use of technology poses major consequences on the body; with not only a decrease in overall health and well-being as a result of increased sedentary behaviour; but also weakening of muscles. These static postures lead the muscles at the back of the neck and shoulders to become weak, while the muscles at the front of the body such as the chest muscles become short and tight. . . 14.01.2022 The perfect crowd pleaser for both adults and children! Save this one for your next party! . INGREDIENTS1 cup (70g) fresh wholemeal breadcrumbs 500g Chicken Mince (pork or beef)1 egg, plus 1 extra lightly beaten egg 1 zucchini, finely grated 1 carrot, finely grated 1/2 onion, diced 1 heaped tablespoon of mixed herbs Chicken stock powder, salt and pepper to taste4 sheets frozen puff pastry, just thawed 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)Tomato or sweet chilli or sauc...e, optional, to serve METHOD 1. Preheat the oven to 200C and line 2 baking sheets with baking paper. . 2.In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs, chicken and egg until well combined. . 3.Add onions, zuchinni, carrots, herbs and season with chicken stock powder, salt and pepper. . 4.Cut one sheet of defrosted puff pastry in half. . 5. Whisk the egg and milk together. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the egg mixture down one long side of each pastry half. . 6. Place of the sausage mixture in a long thin line down the opposite side. Roll the sausage rolls into a long thin roll. . 7. Make sure the joined pastry seam is facing down. Cut each roll into desired length. . 8. Brush lightly with the egg mixture. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or black poppy seeds. . 9. Place the sausage rolls onto baking trays. . 10. Cook in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puff . TMG’s tips 1. Breadcrumbs is used to soak up the liquid from mince. Chicken mince is usually wetter than pork or beef mince. . 2. Before making the sausage rolls, cook a 3cm round patty on the pan to check the seasoning. This allows you to adjust the salt, pepper and herbs if needed. . 3. This is a fantastic base recipe and you can adjust and experiment with. If you are using beef mince, you can also add a bit of capsicum which would be delicious. You can also ask the children what other ingredients do they think would go well and experiment with that. . 4. 11.01.2022 Is coconut oil good or bad for me? . There is no definitive answer as to whether coconut oil is good or bad for you. The answer is, it depends. Its not wise to buy coconut oil because you see other people doing it or its heavily marketed. Make an informed decision for your own situation. . .... Also, Ive learnt that there are studies that show coconut oil increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, but there is just as much evidence showing the opposite. The evidence regarding CVD is still inconclusive so it warrants larger clinical intervention studies. . . BTW, here are other facts I found using @examinedotcom and @pub_med_research , the two search engines I mentioned last week: . 1. The recommended dietary allowance of protein for a healthy adult with minimal physical activity is 0.8g protein per kg body weight (BW) per day. To promote skeletal muscle protein growth and strength, dietary intake of 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6g protein per kg BW per day is recommended for individuals with minimal, moderate and intense physical activity, respectively. . 2. Beetroot has so much nitrate that it can serve as a potential ergogenic aid and pre-workout supplement in the form of beetroot juice. . . As mentioned last week, scientific research and data doesnt prove that something is true, it just reduces uncertainty. . So gather the data, analyse it and make an informed decision for yourself. . . . . . #diypt #60secJuno #doingresearch #empoweringourgenerationtosavethenextgeneration #makehealthynormalnsw

01.01.2022 Whats cooking, good looking? . Last night we were so close to ordering takeaway, but instead, I decided to teach our eldest boy how to cook these two lovely pieces of salmon for dinner! . Here are my tips:... Season the salmon skin well and cook the skin side down first Always listen to the sizzling sound that your pan makes when you are cooking and keep an eye on the heat to make sure its not too high or too low. Watch the colour of the salmon change as you cook and turn the fish when the skin is nice and golden. Dont be afraid to cut the salmon a bit to see if its cooked to your liking. . How confident are you at cooking fish? . Leave a comment below if you would like me to show you how to cook fish in real-time! .
