11.01.2022 Takeshi Asai at Dizzy's! TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE VIA www.dizzys.com.au Takeshi Asai has been one of the most individual, exciting jazz pianists since his arrival on the New York scene in 2005. Praised by New York writer CJ Shearn for his slick harmonic sense and deep improvisational palette, his catchy picturesque music is informed by world travels that have taken him to France, Germany, UK, Australia, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. ... Asai's early New York career was marked by contributions to the award-winning group WaFoo and has since worked in enriching solo, duo and trio settings with an array of artists including Catherine Schneider, Pascal Combeau, Maxime Legrand, bassists Bill Clow (who toured with Art Pepper) Mark Wade, Bob Gingery and drummers Anthony Pinciotti, and Brian Woodruff, just to name a few. Improvisation intersected in two fields when Asai participated in a meaningful collaboration featuring Mathias Duhamel's live paintings paired with his impromptu musings, that also incorporates his electric music creation, aka ""Le Projet Electrique."" Festival appearances have included the Staten Island Jazz Festival for the last ten years with WaFoo, and the Bray Normandy Jazz Festival in France back in 2015. His latest release Solo Live in New York: Volume 2 finds drawing on a wide range of sources including Gregorian chants, the classic jazz repertoire and blank slate improvisation, a la Keith Jarrett. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE VIA www.dizzys.com.au
