24.01.2022 Watermelon Tourmaline. These slices of heaven are a part of the tourmaline family. Tourmalines have the widest range of colours out of all the gemstones. They were often mistaken in history for rubies, emeralds and other prized gemstones as their hues often mimicked their rare counterparts. It is a tourmalines chemical composition of the minerals it is surrounded in the earth that is responsible for its range of colours. The famous Tiffany and Co gemologist - George ...F Kunz was responsible in the 1800s for increasing its popularity. The name comes from the Sinhalese word Touramill meaning "mixed gems". A unique gemstone that is one in a melon. Pinterest

21.01.2022 Time to parti. While most people associate sapphires being blue in colour these stunning ones are one of a kind Aussie made. ... A parti sapphires is graded just like an ordinary sapphire in cut, carat and clarity however when it comes to colour these beauties are in a league of their own. Parti sapphires showcase two or three different colours, either blue, yellow or green. This mixture of colors is depended on the trace elements present when the stone is formed. During the 1980's this gemstone was in a high demand world wide. It has since seen a revival with the next generation of jewellery designers creating spectacular design with this one of a kind stone. We recently created one STUNN-ING engagement ring with this beautiful stone. Ring features 2.06ct parti sapphire with pear and round white diamonds on the side. See more

20.01.2022 Women should never go without earrings. Passing on them is an opportunity missed.
19.01.2022 Transformation. After learning her existing stone in her engagement ring was damaged internally, our client Brittany wanted to update her engagement ring and design a new wedding band to match. We changed out the damaged tanzanite to a more durable gemstone, a champagne diamond. Tanzanites are best suited in jewellery that isnt exposed to alot of wear and tear, eg pendants or earrings as they are softer stone ( 6 on the hardness scale), where as a diamond is very durable ( ...a 10 on the hardness scale) and can withstand the elements. We utilised her existing tanzanite stone and created a pendant allowing her to safely keep her original engagement ring stone. Her wedding band design was the very popular crown design. Sitting above the halo engagement ring, hit showcases a crown of diamonds and draws your eye to the center stone of her engagement ring. A stunning result.
18.01.2022 August has not one, but three birthstones for the month. The peridot is the most popular of the three but can you name the other two? See below some interesting facts about the Peridot.
18.01.2022 Budget plays a deciding factor in the overall finished look of a piece (one Powerball!) Our clients really wanted a 1 carat emerald cut however their budget wouldnt stretch to include a stone and cut of that size. So we got creative. Using smaller stones of different cuts we were able to achieve the deserved shape all while staying within the budget. Thats a win win in our book! Can you tell the difference? If you have a piece that you have been told was too far out of your budget, get in contact with us today and see how we can help you.
17.01.2022 In this day and age it isn't easy to juggle being a mum and having a fulfilling career. Let alone finding a company that is accommodating and flexible to work around mum life. We at DJCA, are so lucky that our CEO Avi, supports his employees and encourages a strong work life balance. If the situation ever arises and we need to take our kids into the studio, or if we need to work from home if one of our kids are sick we can do with ease. A rarity in business today. We also ...welcome little ones of our clients with open arms, because to us we want to make the experience of custom jewellery easy and painless. So if you need to come into the studio and bring along your kids we don't at all mind, we even encourage it. Nothing to us is more important than family. We are all truly lucky to work in an amazing organisation. Here is Avi and our latest little family member Annabelle. She also thinks he is rad!
16.01.2022 Transformation Our client wanted to tranaform her pearl pendant into a compleltey difference piece. Any design we created had to accomodate for the pearl being secured by a rod through it as it had already previsously been drilled. Using this design limitation we were able to create a fun a playful ring design using the clients own pearl and set in 18k rose gold.
16.01.2022 Having your home burgled is a horrible experience and much more so when precious sentimental items are stolen from you. Our client had the unfortunate happen, not only did they steal a handful of electronics the thieves also took her grandmothers diamond and emerald pendant and earrings that were passed down to her. Using sketches and images of the jewellery we were able to replica the set that once belong to her grandmother. ... Now she has a beautiful diamond and natural emerald jewellery set to wear and remind her of her late grandmother.

14.01.2022 Wedding fails. No matter how much you can plan a wedding there are events thats are inevitable then there are the ones that you just go OMG. I once was a photography assistance for really good friend of mine as she was shooting a wedding over at Rottnest. She had met the couple a few times previously who seems lovely and nice, however on the actual day it was a s%&t show. ... During the ceremony the couples toddler had become a little tired therefore was a little unruly. No one could calm the poor guy down, so mid way through her vowels she walked over and picked the toddler up and placed him on her hip and proceeded to say her vowels with her son on her hip, screaming and chucking a wobbly all throughout. After that little hiccup we boarded the bus to the location shoot. After capturing some stunning shots in the most magical sunset glow, the photographer asked the couple to give each other a kiss. It's here the bride began to tell the groom just how much she hated the photographer (who was SO close she heard EVERY word) Next minute she proceeded to have the mother of meltdowns, screaming, shouting, swearing and just loosing her minds over everything! I just couldn't believe what i was witnessing. After some deep breaths the best man came over to check on us and told us just how sorry he was for all this. He had even warned his mate not to marry her because she was so crazy. That was over 15 years ago and I have and will never forget that crazy day. Needless to say I was very hesitate to assist in future after that experience. Have you ever been to a wedding where something crazy has happened? Pinterest See more

13.01.2022 What is a Moissanite? If you have been binge watching selling sunset on netflix you would of seen Romain proposing to Mary with a moissanite engagement ring instead of a real diamond, (calm down Christine) Moissanites are a fantastic diamond alternative. Named after the French scientist Henri Moissan who found the gemstone back in 1893, a moissanite has a hardness of 9.5 (a diamond is a 10) with little to no colour or colourless. They are almost identical except a moiss...anite is 80% cheaper per carat. The main difference between the two is the refraction of light. A diamond refracts light through brilliance, dispersion and scintillation, where as a moissanite has a rainbow brilliance. To the naked eye its impossible to see the difference, it is only when they are under specific equiptment or high magnification can you tell. In todays market all of the moissanites available are man made, with naturally occurring ones being extremely rare. The big draw card for many is the price per carat. With the price difference being up to 80% no wonder Romain opted to get Mary a moissanite engagement ring.
12.01.2022 Heirlooms We are often presented with existing heirloom jewellery that our clients are wanting to either update or change. However in our client Junes case it was designing two special pieces using her heirloom ruby cabochons. These stunning ruby cabochons had been passed down through generations in her family. Together we sketched and designed a piece the captured the beauty of the rubies and started her own legacy with her family.

01.01.2022 Computer aided design - CAD For many people envisioning how a piece will look at the end is difficult. We as humans want to be able to touch and feel an object before deciding if we love it. Traditional jewellery design was only 2 dimensional and had with it limitations, however today with modern technology we can do one better. Todays jewellery designers use technology to assist them in designing a dream piece. Using their keyboard and mouse they are able to design master...pieces in 3 dimensions, allowing the jeweller and client to see a full render of the piece. These computer aided designs can be printed using a 3d printer to create a wax mould of the final design. The printer carves a rectangle piece of wax resembling the final result, including any holes set for diamonds taking several hours to complete. Once done a jeweller files any rough edges, gemstone holes before its ready for the next phase, plaster. The wax mould is embedded into a plaster cast and placed inside a furnace, next gold or platinum is then added on-top of the mould which melts the wax 3d model but forms the desired shape created by the cast. Once cooled the jewellery piece is then given to the gem setter to set the stones before one last polish and clean. Computer aided designs are fantastic in allowing the client to try before they buy and make any adjustments of their piece prior to production. We recommend utilising CAD and wax models if your piece is very intricate and detailed as it can assist both the client and us in ensuring clarity on the smaller finer elements of a piece. It is amazing what technology can do these days!
