25.01.2022 PRESENTING BGC Housing Group and West Perth Football Club Indigenous Partnership Guernsey 2020 The design of this jumper came about through a consultation proc...ess co-ordinated by Shazza Wood-Kenney, a proud Noongar Yamatji Woman. Sharon is the Founder/Chair - Executive Manager - Djinda Bridiya Wellbeing AAC and Djinda Falcons Cultural Leadership Education Programs / Football & Leadership Programs. The consultation group included people from the Football Club past and present, Aboriginal Elders from the community and our partners BGC Housing Group. Although the final design is centered around woman's business, the Elders from the community that were consulted included Uncle Bill Dempsey, Patron of Djinda Falcons Football and Leadership Program and WPFC Legend and the family of Ron Davis, a well-respected Aboriginal community member who played for WPFC, whose sons also played for the West Perth FC Development Squads and resides in the area and more importantly have been part of Djinda since inception 2011. The overall design tells the story of the women’s teams’ journey at West Perth Football Club and honours the ancient history of woman’s business within the Joondalup area. The Djindas (Stars) Djindas are significant as we honour the previous workings in the Joondalup area by women for their strength, of gathering Koorlangkas (children), and bringing them together for good. Traditional Blue Sash represented by Hand prints The hand prints start lighter and gradually get darker to the top hand, represents building in strength as the relationship grows between the 4 groups that are the DNA of the teams. Starting with Joondalup Womens FC, combining with the Local Community then with West Perth FC and finally partnering with BGC Housing Group. A Hand print finally rests on the shoulder as a sign of holding space, strength, and respect. The last hand print reaches towards the djinda, djinda in life, djinda for the future connecting to our ancestors. The Circle Work. Represents Yorga (Woman) coming together, meeting places from where you have been and where you are going. The history of Joondalup where yorga’s business is part of our ancient histories. This follows the path of the Blue Sash moving from the table and back again as relationships are made. The Dots and Lines These are the many stories, the journeys of those before us entwining through the present building strength for the future. For order enquires please contact [email protected] a limited number of items will be available on Sunday.
