22.01.2022 Goodland, Kansas. USA... Today was just insane. And I know that word gets thrown around a lot, but this was without a doubt the most scariest & most awe inspiring supercell I have ever seen. I was chasing all day with legend local chaser Ty Schmitt Photography when we'd almost given up all hope & then this happened. We both agreed that this was the BEST cell we've ever chased & we've chased a lot. I have so many more amazing images to share from today but this was a personal... favourite for it's symmetry & the sheer luck of this CG smack bang in the middle. For those interested, this was taken on the Nikon Z7 + 14-24mm Lens & Sirui Australia R-3213X tripod. Camera settings were: 1" | f/11 | ISO100. 21.01.2022 Perico, Texas. USA... I have always wanted to capture some Mammatus Clouds & the few times I have tried this trip I have failed but not tonight!!! For those who follow our Instagram Stories you will remember this spot. Unfortunately no bolts occurred during the best colour, however the subtle magenta after sunset with this CG comes a humble second place. For those not familiar with these cellular pouches, this pattern is a familiar sight at the back of storms & they hang unde...rneath the base of the anvil cloud. Pretty cool huh? 19.01.2022 McAllastar, Kansas. USA... Ive always wanted to capture something as clean & visually stunning as this cell. This is a personal favourite as just moments after I took this image, I gathered my thoughts & simply appreciated & marvelled at the enormity that was before me. While this may have been one of the most dangerous & violent Supercells of the season, I was in awe at its beauty. What made this even more special is being able to see right up the mesocyclone to really appre...ciate its height & size and for the golden sunset moments before absolute darkness & devastation crossed the plains. 19.01.2022 Russell Springs, Kansas. USA... For almost a decade I've dreamt of an image like this & 48hrs ago I achieved that goal. This was one of the angriest & most dangerous supercells I have ever witnessed. After the low level jet kicked in late arvo it escalated quickly dropping multiple tornadoes. One of which you can see here on the left in this stacked plate/mothership structure & a perfect CG (lightning) framed on the right.... 18.01.2022 Carlsbad, Texas. USA... Just when I thought today was going to be a bust...BOOM! This happened at sunset. It's always hard to find good compositions when storm chasing but I was scouting along the road when I stumbled across this shortly before sunset & waited for the last & best cell of the day to roll in. The lightning bolts were firing in the same place so it was easy to frame up & the Strike Finder 2 did all the rest with snapping up the 2 bolts. How crazy is the structu...re in that sky too?! 12.01.2022 Wichita Falls, Texas. USA... What a day!!! I spent most of the day dodging hail from this HP severe thunderstorm & I was about to give up before sunset but I persevered & stayed with the storm & it finally dropped a shelf & kicked up a dust cloud at sunset. It was a mad dash to stay in front as it was moving fast & the dust made visability almost zero at times so I was rapt to finish off what I thought was going to be a bust with a big win! 10.01.2022 Sterling, Colorado. United States... It's been a very interesting first week here in Tornado Alley. It's always been a dream to chase storms at the highest level & today was INSANE!!! After some trouble with the hire car, it was a mad 5 hour dash up north. The Supercells here are just enormous in size & driving along side these beasts you realise Mother Nature is the real boss around here. Late this afternoon this shelf cloud bottomed out & literally scrapped along the plains... & dropped ping pong ball size hail. We were lucky enough to see our first tornado too today (be it brief & unfortunately insufficient time to capture it), but there is still 3 weeks to go so wish us luck! 08.01.2022 Eldorado, Texas. United States... Today was a marginal setup. Tired & exhausted, we asked ourselves "Is it worth the chase today?". 6 hours later & many redbulls the answer is YES!!! This beast developed in Mexico & formed in South West Texas a few hours ago. The structure was insane & we even got lucky with this big CG (lightning bolt) using the Strike Finder 2. It was slim pickings for compositions down there but found this doppler radar that made for the perfect back drop.... 02.01.2022 Roswell, New Mexico. USA... A few hours ago, just outside of Area 51, this mothership approached me from the sky. I was like, "Scully...we are not alone...". Thankfully I wasn't beamed up or probed, but instead laid witness to this beautiful Supercell that dropped 2.5 inch hail in it's wake. I was chasing storms all daybed to no avail & put all my hope in the 'Tail End Charlie' (bottom cell of the day) while most Storm Chasers followed a previous cell. Shortly before sunset i...t just erupted & I had a great road east & kept pulling over & capturing more & more images, but this pano was my personal favourite. What do you guys think? Just when I thought the cell I was chasing was dying, it started to spit out some bolts so I popped out the western side of the storm just before sunset only to be treated to this.
