25.01.2022 Our hearts are with America at the moment. Well especially when I share images from our road trip in 2016. They have always seemed to have been the pinicial, well of everything, but at the moment we seem to be all seem questioning there thoughts and movements at the moment. However, we just hope that they stay safe. #mytinyatlas #theprettycities #flashesofdelight #unlimitedparadise #vacationwolf #forahappymoment #planetdiscovery #exploringtheglobe #traveldeeper #roamtheplanet #theglobewanderer #finditliveit #visualoflife #welltravelled #cntraveler #letsgosomewhere #tasteintravel #pursuepretty #guardiantravelsnaps #thehappynow #openmyworld #livethelittlethings

22.01.2022 What do you do when your talent just ain't pulling their weight?

21.01.2022 This, if I toot my own horn, is a great example of composition. The rule of thirds is prevalent with the golden sky and skate park, you could also consider the gold path and blacks a separation of thirds, it also has leading line elements to it. You can also see that the skateboarder stands at these intersections or a point of interest. Ideally with all images and compositions the aim is to set your eye on a journey right around the image. This, for me, does this. Starting... at the bottom left on your first point of interest. Leading it up, through the skate boarder around the horizon and down from the life saving huts along the curves and finishing at the skateboarder in the bowl... I know. I didnt see him at first either. #dlphotography_landscapes #citizensoftheworld #photography #photographytips #skateboard #venicebeach #losangeles #america See more

21.01.2022 Here come the clowns. This is a great example of the rule of thirds and the clown sitting at a point of interest. 1/800sec f5 ISO400 shot on a Nikon D750.... #travel_dlphotography ##mytinyatlas #theprettycities #flashesofdelight #unlimitedparadise #vacationwolf #forahappymoment #planetdiscovery #exploringtheglobe #traveldeeper #roamtheplanet #theglobewanderer #finditliveit #visualoflife #welltravelled #cntraveler #letsgosomewhere #tasteintravel #pursuepretty #guardiantravelsnaps #thehappynow #openmyworld #livethelittlethings #photography #ilovephotography

20.01.2022 Hawaii, Waikiki beach. Have you ever been? This is an excellent example of using focus to compose your image. The composition is pretty bang-on otherwise and would likely be considered a Fibonacci spiral. However, with everything happening in the picture, your eye is still drawn to that focal and focus point of Diamond head. In regards to colour processing, its all about the oranges. Accentuating the colour of sand and skin to highlight the feeling of what Waikiki is a...ll about! All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. Please get in touch if you would like to share. Thx.

20.01.2022 Not many people know this. But I have ADHD and anxiety. The anxiety is usually connected through the ADHD, and typically most people that have ADHD have anxiety. There is a negative belief around ADHD, but I hope that I can change your options on this. I have been fortunate in a career where no 2 days are the same, and I have covered all genres. I have also made it that way. Unknowingly, as my ADHD wasnt diagnosed until I was 30. But, by this stage, I had been a wedding... photographer, architectural photographer, product, fashion, event, corporate, advertising, landscape, baby and family, portraits and sports photographermany of which I still do. But my point is I would master a genre - but seemingly bored of the ease and repetitiveness of it and then start looking elsewhere for a new challenge. ADHD isnt a weakness, in fact, it is a massive strength to my creativity. When I am chatting to a potential customer about their brand. My brain is already working away in the background for creative concepts and ideas on how to market them. Dont get me wrong. When I at my worst, I couldnt make a cup of tea. I was amazed; I made it this far in life! Hahaha. All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. Please get in touch if you would like to share. Thx.

19.01.2022 I love this series of images that I captured for Archie Rose Distilling Co. under the guise of Squad Ink, Design Studio. I just couldnt chose a hero. But I wanted to talk to you about brand and what a photographers role is with capturing this. In this scenerio I had the direction from the Squad Inc team. Where they layed out the feel and the brand story they were looking to capture. Then this came down to me producing it. ... This is has obviously been shot in a wheat field. But pretend like you didnt know anything about Archie Rose if I told you that it was for an alcoholic/spirits brand - I hope that your first instinct is to think that, "Oh, they use wheat, to create there spirit". Which would be true. I also would want you to think - "Wow, that looks like the kind that only God would consume. Look at the sun shining through it - how perfect it looks. Its nearly hand-selected just for me for my whiskey." You would also be true. Now with branding and advertising - you really only have 1 opportunity to create this story and connection. With social - once you have them following you. You can tell them. Over and over again. But the story - your brand story must remain the same. Creating branding imagery is about trying to tell a story at first glance. Lighting, composition, editing/colours are all done in a way to tell this story, to tell a customer how to feel - without them even knowing it. This is what I do. 17.01.2022 When capturing sunrises. There are a couple of things that you need to know. Before you start. 1 - Where is the sun rising from? Yes! In the east - but where exactly. Especially if you have just gotten off the plane and you have no idea where you are. 2 - Where do you need to be? Its always good to generally scope out this location before you shoot. This way you wont be stumbling around in the pitch-black hoping for the best spot. ... 3 - When should you get there? "Sunrise." Haha... yes - good guess. But this changes. Its also generally a good idea to be there at least an hour before sunrise. Winter changes a little as the sun wont take as long to rise or set. This way youre set and ready - and not driving in looking at the clouds as they flash from pink to orange and you have just missed the best part of it all! Im writing a more in depth blog about this. Do you want me to let you know when its up? All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. Please get in touch if you would like to share. Thx.

17.01.2022 Creating a visual story out of images is something that I love to do. Creating a tone, colour and lighting that would suit the message. The ability to have an understanding about brands and products is an ability that I cherish. Yes - I did create this lighting. Working with 2 @profotoglobal studio flashes to create a warm feel with depth to the images. There is something about people using their hands that completely fascinates me, they always have, even as a boy I used ...to draw my hands. I always know that I would use them and do something creative. These images were for the makers and creators campaign for @lovethecentralcoast that I shot in 2019. Do you need any content like this? 16.01.2022 I love this image. The depth, clairty and focus on diamond mountain. Shot at - 1/800s, f2.8, ISO50 on a @nikonaustralia D750. It was taken while on holiday in Hawaii in 2016. Although now. As I sit here at home 5am, anxieties rising because of more lock downs I look at this image and think: Is this an image that I will show Lachie when he is older of what life used be like? I hope not. ... #travel_dlphotography #photography #photographytips #photographyeducation #photographer #travelphotography #hawaii #hawaiisbestphotos #hawaiilife #mytinyatlas #theprettycities #flashesofdelight #unlimitedparadise #vacationwolf #forahappymoment #planetdiscovery #exploringtheglobe #traveldeeper #roamtheplanet #theglobewanderer #finditliveit #visualoflife #welltravelled #letsgosomewhere #tasteintravel #pursuepretty #guardiantravelsnaps #thehappynow #openmyworld #livethelittlethings

16.01.2022 SOUNDON Soooooooooo excited to share this. We are in the process of changing @Citi zensoftheworld. This had been a very long time coming. But we couldnt put our finger on what we wanted. Meghan and I have never really been extremely comfortable in front of the camera. We both feel more comfortable behind it. Creating. We feel like being influencers was somewhat thrust upon us. We never started out with that dream. This. Now. Is where we are at. We cant wait to see w...here we go. PS. Dont worry. You still will see some of us in front of the camera. Were pretty accustomed to it now. So stoked with the @citizenscontent team for putting this together! #citizensoftheworld #travel #blogger #video #videopiece #videoedits

15.01.2022 What do you do when your talent just isn't pulling their weight?

14.01.2022 Lighting is everything in this image. But there is also quite a bit that you might realise is happening. The overall shot is exposed for the wall light. Which creates a warm glow. I have also used a @profotoglobal light and an 8" Octo shaper. Probably my favourite light shaper at the moment. The way that wraps light around a subject and creates shadows is so smooth and delicate. It would be like a full moon light through a thin veil of cloud (Light froth). Its stunning.... This creates some definition and shape around the subject this is the drink on offer. This was created for the @Bistecca.sydney. #foodgasm #myfab5 #f52grams #dailyfoodfeed #lovefood #eatingfortheinsta #flatlay #spoonfeed #huffposttaste #infatuation #buzzfeast #feedyoursoull #tastingtable #forkyeah #heresmyfood #eater #eattheworld #foodandwine #foodblogfeed All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. 12.01.2022 What do you do when your talent just aint pulling their weight?

12.01.2022 I have always loved this image. To me it says so much about Los Angeles and Venice beach. If you have ever play Grand Theft Auto you would know what I am talking about. The game encapsulates the randomness of the people so well. All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. Please get in touch if you would like to share. Thx.

11.01.2022 Silhouettes are easier to capture then you might think. If you shoot Manual mode like me. Expose to the sky and put the subject between you and the sun. If you dont youll need to use the AE-L button to look the exposure. Little tip. The longer the lens. The easier it is. #photographytips #photographytipsandtricks #photography #photographyworkshops #landscapes_dlphotography

10.01.2022 Im feeling like this could be my lunch. Well. At least the burger in the back ground. When shooting food. Natural lighting is your friend. It is very important to move away from any ambient/overhead or artificial constant lighting. Unless, this is your main light source. However I have found that lighting directly over head is typically never good lighting. I have offset the shadow with a backlight at my 11 0clock. Just to soften the shadows and also remove shadows th...at would be cast onto other food element! 10.01.2022 Now. This is really for my fellow photographers out there. If you saw this and freaked the fuck out. Then so did I when I saw this post from a fellow photographer. @meghanloneragan texted me today with it. Of course, given the fucked scenario and maybe possibly our own situation we thought the worse. No, we arent going to off ourselves. And neither was he...hopefully. ... But, why, as a photographer and a fucking good one would we think that he could or would go that far?? I blame numerous things. Photographers not supporting each other (myself included), a non-existent industry standard, of course social media, a total disregard to usages, job aggregators, and a new generation of photographers just dont know their own value and therefore their effect. But let me talk about these things. When I first started as a photographer the industry standard was $2000/day. To shoot. Retouching/editing on top. I used to even charge for travel time. This in its self hasnt really changed for 15 years. Yes, Im old. I would actually consider $2k still, or even less to be the base line, but who would know. I know Getty photographers get paid $500/day. Ok. You might be thinking Holy shit that is a lot. Well, lets break it down. $500/day divided by 12 (cause it will take about 4 hours to process the images). $41/hr or $29/hr inc tax. While trying to pay ~$2k month for camera insurance plus a whole range of basic business expenses. So now were talking about photographer support. Well, what do you want to know. Its a dog eatdog world. There is no loyalty. Ive had photographers take clients and clients go direct to photographers after I had given them the the gig in the first place. Now, for me, this is changing. You may have noticed. I want to be a leader in the industry, I have nothing to hide. Social media. Yes. A great marketing tool. But for photographers and videographers, not so much, it just cheapened they perceived value of content. We have put our work out there for the hope of a regram WTF? For example. If I was Apple and I put crate of iphones out the front of a store for a free pick up to try a product... continued in comments.

09.01.2022 What do you do when your talent just isnt pulling their weight?

09.01.2022 Sometimes the ambient lighting just isnt right. It doesnt give enough light. It can create images that a grainy because you are trying to push the ISO to its limits. So with the use of @profotoglobal lighting you can control the shadows and highlights and you can freeze the action. Shot on @Nikonaustralia. #nikonz7. 85mm f1.4. ISO200, F2.0 1/100sec. For Bistecca All images are copyright to Dominic Loneragan. Please get in touch if you would like to share. Thx.

06.01.2022 This shot was post dawn on the vineyard at @taylorswines the sun was peaking just over the horizon through another strip of vines. Casting this beautiful yellow sunshine, backlighting this grouping of grapes. Now. If you are a photographer you know the feeling. This. Is what I have penned a light froth. However, you may know that this light bleed can be a bit of a play with aperture and exposure. So, two problems you can come across here. Let in to much light you might have the right exposure on the grapes but the light might bleed through the lens too much and wrap the grapes. Or. Not enough and its a silhouette. So. Lighting was essential to balance off the image. #drinks_dlphotography #photography #photographytips #wine #winery #photographer @ Barossa Valley

05.01.2022 Sometimes the ambient lighting just isn't right. It doesn't give enough light. It can create images that a grainy because you are trying to push the ISO to its limits. 04.01.2022 So. If you saw in my last post about shutter speed and control. This is what you can do when you send the shutter speed at the other end of the spectrum. You can completely freeze your frame. Youll see in the next frame that I have used lighting. You can see that the afternoon turned we actually just beat a storm. So lighting was essential to get some highlights across the hand and also to give the red wine some vibrant colour. Using B1 @profotoglobal High Speed flash syncs... made is possible. Produced for @taylorswines #drinks_dlphotography #photographytips #photographer #sydneyphotographer #wine #winelover @ Clare Valley Wine Country, South Australia.

04.01.2022 When focus is your composition. When you typically first think about composition. Our initial thoughts go to the layout. Where our subject is positioned and how your eye travels around the whole image. Using focus is a great way to trick the eye to look at something else. 02.01.2022 Lighting is about setting a mood. @Meghan and I shot this at home for @everdurebyhestonblumenthal on a cloudy day. And whats a BBQ without some afternoon daylight. So I shot this using 2 x B1 @profotoglobal lights. One with a umbrella and diffuser highlighting Meghan and the table and my back and another with a zoom on my face giving a afternoon daylight look.
