25.01.2022 Only in Australia I used to have a pen pal (remember those?!) from the USA in primary school. His first question was so do you have kangaroos in your backyard?. Living in a city (albeit a small one) I laughed at the ridiculousness of this thought. 24.01.2022 3 hours of power for you to learn how to create and sell an online course and start making repeat revenue. I'll share my evolution from 1 to 1000 students in 7 months, plus all my hints about tech, platforms and getting it done. If I can do it with two kids under 5, working 2 days a week, so can you! I won't lie, it's bloody hard work, but nowhere near as exhausting as 1000 one to one sessions!
24.01.2022 I’m currently #15 on Amazon’s new releases list thanks to everyone who has ordered a copy during pre sale. Don’t forget, Booktopia has 30% off and the kindle version will drop in the next few days. Every sale, every bit of exposure helps get this book in the hands of the 1 in 3 who will experience birth trauma there are SO many families shattered from birthing during covid-19. A book is simply one way I can reach more people with support

24.01.2022 From the snow to sand in 2 days! When I found out regional Victorians were allowed to travel within the state, I headed straight for the ocean. So did my 2 yo, who literally tried to run into the ocean fully clothed in 11 degree weather ... It’s been more than 6 months seen I’d seen+smelled the sea or touched sand that’s not kinetic play sand. The longest stretch of my life that I’ve ever been away from it. For my Melbourne friends and fam stuck in the city bubble - hang in there #drerinbowe #oceantherapy #torquaybeach
23.01.2022 It's birth trauma awareness week in Australia, and I'll be speaking at this panel on Friday :)
22.01.2022 A healthy baby is not all that matters It’s important, yes, but is this really the best outcome we can aim for in birth? Think about water. Pretty important, right? It keeps people alive. ... But it’s not as simple as asking for water as a minimum request. What if that water is contaminated? What if access is miles away and you might die on the way to get there? So then water in and of itself is not all that matters is it? Don’t we need to be able to access it safely, for it to be clean, for it to actually save us and not kill us? I’ve been fascinated with the concept of the witch wound recently. This idea that we have epigenetic trauma handed down from women who were lucky to just be alive. Women of the past who spoke their minds, who healed, and who invented and had ideas were burned and drowned. We stay small and ask for the minimum so as not to make a fuss. To stay safe. We put other women back in their box by suggesting that hey, at least you and your baby are alive so stop complaining. We must demand more. Stop shooting for the floor instead of smashing through the glass ceilings. A healthy baby AND a birthing person who didn’t have to die, suffer obstetric rape, abuse and trauma to get there It’s #birthtraumaawarenessweek & now more than ever the ripple effect is present. Not only do we have 1 in 3 women experiencing birth trauma, we also must consider partners, midwives, nurses, OBs & doulas who experience vicarious trauma from witnessing trauma. The lactation consultants, child birth educators, GPs & mental health professionals who hear about these stories. I’ve had over 840 parents & professionals from 25 countries enrol in my 2 online birth trauma courses just in the last few months. 20.01.2022 Throwback to 5 years ago. My first birth with Stella, my little star Yesterday I waved her off for her school orientation. I’ve still never set foot inside the school with her thanks to the word. She was fine, of course. I was a wreck! I never planned to have two children with birthdays 2 days apart but so far it’s fun chaos ... today we are dragging out the women’s weekly birthday cake book to attempt to make the sweets shop cake super thankful she didn’t choose the duck cake after watching Bluey cos it looks complicated For my Aussie friends, did you have a favourite women’s weekly cake made for you as a child? 20.01.2022 What pisses me off Wednesday - When being yourself is pathologized When practitioners give you a personal judgment and pass it off as professional opinion. 19.01.2022 Let your freak flag fly & do things differently It’s 1999 and I have a guitar exam. All the Jimi Hendrix songs I’d like to play (one of which the ‘let your freak flag fly’ lyric comes from) are either too simple or too complicated. I’m indecisive which is annoying my teacher so he tells me to rehearse Baker Street & Wish You Were Here after demonstrating them once. Oh the days before YouTube! I can read notes ok enough but I learn best by watching and doing. I’m basically m...aking this up as I go along based on what I think I heard. I finish my exam and 3 examiners stare at me. One of them clears her throat a little & says well I’ve never quite heard either of those songs played that way I can tell it’s not meant to be a compliment Did I bomb? Not quite, but I used too much artistic licence I tell myself I can’t be good at everything and barely pick up a guitar again for another 20 years. I started wearing my nails longer so I’d have the excuse not to play. I dunno how Dolly does it! Look I’d never be good enough to go off course the way Jimi did Where could you take your bag of weird & awkward tricks & instead of shrinking away shine a massive spotlight on it to attract people who would love to work with you and only you? Imagine if Tash Sultana decided not to post that video of them playing in the lounge with their mum and the dog walking in? LOL. Go Youtube it if you don’t know who Tash Sultana is. Be yourself. 19.01.2022 Slow down, mate! I’ve recently started mentoring some other psychologists to do just that. My soulful strategy group and some private sessions with BRILLIANT women who are burning themselves out Stop burning yourself by filling the day with endless 1:1 sessions and Medicare paperwork and look at what else there is for you. Creative content creation is one way! ... I’ve actually enjoyed the process of teaching other people to slow down so much that I’m pondering a new lifestyle brand. 18.01.2022 I don’t know about you but most of the best books I’ve ever read were not titles I found based on typing key words into a search box They were based on word of mouth or books I completely stumbled upon. But the thing is, you can’t find something unless it’s presented to you as an option Reviews of my book, More than a Healthy Baby: Finding Strength & Growth After Birth Trauma, get support into the hands of new parents who need it... 1 in 3 birthing people will experience birth trauma, yet SO many people suffer in silence thinking this is the way it’s just supposed to be. 18.01.2022 I remember this night so well. December 1st, 2015. My first night at home after my first traumatic birth. I was determined that the Christmas tree was going up, so my husband poured me a half glass of wine, we put on James Brown's Christmas album, and attempted to lean into feeling 'normal'. Here is a small excerpt from More Than a Healthy Baby: "...I'd stayed in hospital for six nights, which by many standards is a long stay. My milk didn’t properly start coming in until th...e fifth night. When it happened, I suddenly felt really unwell and thought I had the flu. This panicked me again because no-one had explained to me that this is what your milk coming in might feel like. Breastfeeding continued to be hell (which I’ll explain further in Chapter 12), and I felt exhausted, angry, confused, detached, ashamed, guilty and so many other feelings. The day we brought Stella home I was excited to introduce her to our dogs and I set about trying to cope with my feelings by creating tasks. The desire for control was strong, which I’ve also witnessed in many new parents. I had to set up a feeding station, a medication station, a bathing and nappy changing station. I had to sit and write a really long email to my new baby girl. I had to take a cute photo for the announcement card, and put up the Christmas tree. I had a moment where I clumsily put Stella in the stretchy baby carrier and for the first time, I felt a little bit OK. Babywearing definitely helped me to produce oxytocin and feel safe and calm in those early days..." More than a Healthy Baby officially launched on December 8th. 17.01.2022 Reviewing edits from my publisher today. It was only two months ago that I even finished the first draft! My granny used to say ‘Whit’s Fur Ye’ll No Go By Ye’ which roughly translated means what is meant for you by fate won’t pass you by... If you have a story that belongs in the world - you’ve got to believe it’s worth sharing. Otherwise it simply won’t get written. Or maybe it will be written but you’ll be too scared to show it to anyone. If you have medicine on your heart that could help someone, then getting caught up in your ego and keeping it to yourself is actually selfish. This is part of the mindset work I’m about to start with my mentorees in Soulful Strategy for Psychologists (we’re starting Monday!) If you think you can’t write a book, then you can’t. If you think you can write it then you can. I wrote more than a healthy baby over many, many 10-20 minute sessions over 2 years. I wrote with a baby on my boob. I wrote in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep. I wrote when clients cancelled. I wrote instead of going to social events. I spent 6 months researching publishers. I booked time with women I knew who’d already published. I paid them instead of just asking to pick their brain. Then I blocked out one weekend and formally put it all together. I sent off my proposal before I felt ready. In the blind panic of a seemingly impulsive decision I heard a wise voice saying they’ve already accepted it. It is done Trust your synchronicities without worrying too much about the ‘how’. The strategy will come from the synchronicity #morethanahealthybaby #birthtrauma #birthtraumaawareness #birthbooks #posttraumaticgrowth #perinatal #drerinbowe #authorsofinstagram

14.01.2022 3 things that helped me cope with birth trauma (there’s also a video for this on my IGTV ) The acronym for this one is AIM and you can use these tools after any traumatic event 1 A for allowing. Rather than blocking or trying to control your feelings and thoughts, do the opposite and allow them in. ... Refusing to acknowledge, allow and accept negative feelings is actually what makes them become stuck. Practise in 20 second intervals if that’s all you can manage, but allow them in. Allowing is not same as liking them! 2 I for integrating. Put the birth into a story with a beginning, middle and end. This is how the brain likes to process information. This is how the Pandora’s box of random thoughts, images, smells and sounds will slowly close. You don’t have to remember everything. It doesn’t have to be true or consistent with what others say. It’s just a version of the story that you can get on board with to help your brain settle down. Choose the details that make you feel the best, not the worst. There’s no test, there’s no prize. Your experience and how YOU want to see it. 3 M for meaning making. What are you going to make this event mean? That you’re weak, stupid? That you should have done/said/tried x y z? Or that it means you’re still alive. You’re strong. You’re a fighter. If you can get through this shit and still live to tell the tale, then you can cope with anything Not a fix it all, not a replacement for seeking support and expert help, just something that might help while you’re scrolling Loads more tools in my online birth trauma courses (we’ve got over 860 students now! link in bio) and I’ll share more through the week #morethanahealthybaby #birthtrauma #birthtraumatraining #drerinbowe #birthtraumaawareness #birthtraumaawarenessweek #birthtraumaawarenessweek2020 #yourstorymatters #starttheconversation #ptsd #postnatalptsd #postpartumptsd #maternalptsd #paternalptsd #makebirthbetter
13.01.2022 People might argue with you about the details of your birthdid X and Y really happen the way you think it did? Was it really that bad? Can’t you just focus on having a healthy baby? No-one can argue with you about how you feel. ... Your birth and how you feel about it is yours to own, so own it" People will definitely argue with you there’s room for objective and subjective factors in trauma. How YOU feel is what I’m interested in. Logic and trauma don’t reside in the same place. Insight and trauma don’t reside in the same place. Gratitude for a healthy baby is not the singular antidote to posttraumatic growth. 10.01.2022 One freaking thousand enrolments in my birth trauma training courses 1000 students in 7 months. I’m blown away! If I can do it, a mum who only works 2 days a week, with no supporting team, limited tech knowledge and a small production budget, so can you! I didn’t listen to any advice, did things the wrong way around & learned some hard lessons along the way. I’ve yet to give up my day job, but I can confidently tell you what I’ve spent on: ... Facebook/Instagram ad dollars: zero (probably should get on that at some point ) Marketing: zero Presales: zero Hosting: zero (after 3 months of paying for hosting & making 1 sale mind you) If you are a health professional and you’re not creating courses why not? if you’re in private practice, how do you earn money when you’re sick, on holiday or just want a day off? My first course took 2 years to produce. I didn’t feel like Wonder Woman when it attracted only 1 sale in the first launch. I did not feel like Wonder Woman when I was sobbing on the kitchen floor with snot falling into my wine thinking I’d failed (true story ). The second course I planned, produced & released within 3 months & made sales from the first day My teaching style is definitely not a how to bust your ass and make a million bucks from course creation you can find plenty of those hyper masculinised courses everywhere anyway! 09.01.2022 What is posttraumatic growth? Something quite amazing that can happen after a traumatic birth. It’s a process. Definitely not about Pom Pom shaking toxic positivity soon after the most horrific event of your life. But working towards self-compassion for how strong and capable you are, despite what happened. ... One mindset after trauma is to say it was so horrible, we can’t and shouldn’t enjoy anything because of what happened. Another mindset is to say we must celebrate things and find joy because it happened In a nutshell, posttraumatic growth is transformation following trauma. You propel yourself forwards with strength and growth in spite of what happened. Adversity can often bring positive growth. Remember that eighty percent of people who experience a trauma don’t develop PTSD. Resilience and posttraumatic growth are not the same Resilience is the personal attribute or ability to bounce back. With resilience you take a knock after trauma, and you feel low, but then your happiness levels go back to where they were. With posttraumatic growth, on the other hand, you are knocked down, and you struggle to bounce back. You maybe really struggle and you never get back to that original state of happiness. But what’s phenomenal is that you rise higher than you ever were. You shed your skin and then you’re like the Hulk stronger, happier and more powerful than before. Yes you start by feeling broken. Your core is shaken, you have to find a whole new belief system, you struggle and then, ultimately you find a sense of personal growth. Two and a half years ago, after pushing out a 5.0kg baby with severely stuck shoulders I never thought hmm here’s a business idea!. Yet here I am, two birth trauma courses, a podcast, and a book on the way. Tonight I’m a finalist for 2 awards in the ausmumpreneur awards. How did that happen? Because I refused to settle for the idea that I was just broken and had to live with it. @the_angela_gallo #morethanahealthybaby #birthtrauma #birthtraumatraining #drerinbowe #birthtraumaawareness #birthtraumaawarenessweek #birthtraumaawarenessweek2020

07.01.2022 Working through trauma is like pulling weeds The temptation is to just pull the top off, so that at least you can’t see it. Going in and untangling the roots takes time, you get your hands dirty and it’s hard work ... But if you cut or pull rather than carefully separate the strands then you leave part of the root. It stays hidden for a while, but it will come back up to the surface My online birth trauma courses are designed for you to just make a start with some strategies. 07.01.2022 Why do we censor our responses for people who don’t bother to censor their own? The truth is, there’s no perfect response to an invalidating response to birth trauma.

03.01.2022 Play is one of my highest values. Particularly for trauma. After #birthtraumaawarenessweek2020 I spent a chunk of my weekend on this swing set. Just integrating. Aka letting the dust settle Rocking back and forth has become such a pathologised trope of mental illness Why? You can’t purely ‘think’ your way out of stress. That’s a white patriarchal idea born out of the idea that the mind and body are somehow separate.... If it were true - that all we had to do was be logical and think our way through stress & trauma, we’d all be fine now right? Swinging releases endorphins It makes your inner child happy It settles the vestibular nervous system We naturally rock or sway as part of letting go in sex, labour and postpartum with tiny babies Swaying and gentle motion (as per the in utero experience) is familiar and calming Hands up if you have watched a parent in a supermarket swaying or rocking back & forth with a trolley? There may be no children in sight Part of nervous system integration for trauma is movement. Find yourself a rocking chair, hammock or a swing set. Let go. Let your nervous system recalibrate. If nothing else, it’s just good fun #birthtrauma #somaticexperiencing #drerinbowe #traumahealing #morethanahealthybaby #askapsychologist #ptsd #pnd #mumssupportingmums #innerchild #innerchildhealing

01.01.2022 One freaking thousand enrolments in my birth trauma training courses 1000 students in 7 months. Anyone who has worked with me knows I’m more of a chillpreneur (a phrase from @denisedt) There might be another course in teaching ppl to make courses hit me up if you’re keen How perfect are these earrings from indigenous jewellery artist @hausofdizzy #birthtrauma #birthtraumatraining #drerinbowe #onlinecoursecreators #bossbabe #chillpreneur #psychologistsofinstagram #mumpreneur #womeninbusiness #mumssupportingmums #maternalmentalhealthmatters
01.01.2022 *note* both the full version of this interview & the 15 minute highlights reel can be found on YouTube & wherever you listen to podcasts It was really important to me to have this conversation with my guest today. I’ve interviewed him as part of my second book I’m writing parents of the pandemic but it also just made so much sense to turn our conversation into a podcast. Some of you may remember the story of Amber Rose Isaac. A beautiful soul who died a really unnecessary d...eath. Amber had HELLP syndrome which results in low platelet counts which is treatable, except Amber was continually ignored. She knew her body. She knew she didn’t feel right and yet she kept being dismissed and ignored. It wasn’t until she decided she’d switch to a midwife and homebirth model that they discovered how high risk she was. Doctors were signing off on her bloodwork and yet by the time she went to be induced her blood was like water. Induction resulted in an emergency c-section. Instead of being with her partner Bruce and her mum, she bled out in a hospital room alone. She didn’t even get to met her baby boy, Elias. I just don’t believe it wouldn’t have happened if she were white. In my first book, more than a healthy baby I talk about how in the Bronx in New York City black women are 12 times more likely to die than white women. Not just statistics. I don’t want us to forget and just say oh well, that’s sad I want things to change. This is in 2021, not 1821. Since I first her of her story, it has haunted me. Maybe it’s because like me, Amber had a psychology degree and was getting her masters Maybe because I know a little of what it’s like to lie on a hospital bed, terrified while knowing I was losing a lot of blood. 3 days before she died Amber tweeted about how she wanted to write a tell all book about the negligence. Her partner Bruce has channelled his grief into activism. It was such an honour to be able to speak with him. This episode is a little longer. It is a beautiful love story with such a tragic ending. As you listen to Bruce and Amber’s story I ask you to channel your sadness and anger into action.
