24.01.2022 Today marks 50 years since the New Norfolk Ambulance Station was officially opened. As part of its 50th anniversary, the station group made up of five branch... station officers and 24 volunteers has put together a time capsule to be mounted on a wall within the station. The time capsule includes a signed shirt, copies of local newspapers, patches, photos and various pieces of gear. It will be reopened in 20 years. Congratulations team! 22.01.2022 While promoting Restart a Heart Day in Port Sorell on Friday, local resident Lucy happened to stroll past to get her morning paper. Two years ago, Lucy had a ca...rdiac arrest at home and our Port Sorell Community Emergency Response Team responded. Lucy received two shocks from an automated external defibrillator (better known as an AED) and is now smiling to tell the story. Pictured: Lucy (right) with local Ambulance Tasmania volunteer Sue (who was on duty that day).

19.01.2022 How to give way to emergency ambulances Do stay alert for ambulances. Do make way for ambulances using sirens and flashing lights.... Do slow down and move to the left, if and when it’s safe to do so. Do not try to outrun an ambulance. Remember: next time we could be coming to your rescue!

17.01.2022 Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) is shockingly easy! When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases every minute. Com...bined with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), an AED can help restart a heart. If you have an AED please make sure to register it at www.health.tas.gov.au//community_informa/eadp/registration, email [email protected] or call 1300 979 057. Registering your AED will offer someone in cardiac arrest the greatest chance of survival. To find the nearest your AED, download the Ambulance Tasmania AED Locator smart phone app. It shows community-held AED locations across Tasmania and is available on iOS, Android and Windows Mobile platforms. It uses your phone’s location to find your closest AED and displays directions to that device. The app also includes an instructional video on how to use an AED, directions on how to perform CPR and manage an unconscious patient, and links to other useful sites and apps. The latest AED site (pictured) is at Port Arthur.

16.01.2022 See inside the weekend’s West Coast cave rescue near Mt Cripps. It took a 60-strong rescue party of Ambulance Tasmania, police, SES and Northern Caverneers Cavi...ng Club members eight hours to safely retrieve an injured Ulverstone man from deep inside a remote cave. Congratulations to all involved.

14.01.2022 Due to technical issues, the live CPR presentation for Restart A Heart Day will not proceed at 2:30 pm today as previously advised. We apologise for the inconvenience and we'll reschedule a presentation to another time.

03.01.2022 Last month we speedily dispatched an ambulance to a nearby address in Upper Burnie for a man in cardiac arrest celebrating Father’s Day with his family. Our pa...ramedics’ cardiac monitor/defibrillator showed the patient’s heart was ready to receive an electric shock. They began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and delivered the first electrical shock within three minutes of case being called into our state operations centre and restarted the patient’s heart after two minutes. The patient was semi-consciousness on the way to the North West Regional Hospital and by the time our team finished their patient care report at the hospital he was fully conscious and talking. The patient was transferred to the Launceston General Hospital later that day where he made a great recovery and was discharged home. Calling 000, effective CPR and paramedic interventions undoubtedly saved this man’s life. You can help save a life perhaps that of a loved one by learning CPR. This Friday is Restart a Heart Day. Tune into a live stream event between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm featuring an exciting line-up of experts in cardiac arrest, CPR and AED training sessions every hour. For more information visit https://www.health.tas.gov.au/restartaheartday. Our team at the scene: (from left) paramedic Holly, intensive care paramedic Alan, paramedic Bec and paramedic Jeremy.
