22.01.2022 It's all about your perspective trying something new can be scary or exciting or both. The body's physiological response to positive excitement and negative stress are the same. It's the emotion you attach to the event that makes the difference. To change an emotion you first need to change your mindset towards the situation.... For example, if you are terrified of presenting you could change the emotional label to "I am feeling excited" and work with that. It may not work for everything every time, however, with repeated practice, your perspective will change. #doelephantsjump #leadershipdevelopment #leaders #change #perspective

22.01.2022 That's right, support your team let them try instead of doing it for them, see their success and then remember to celebrate with cheers.

17.01.2022 Believing that everyone is doing the best they can with the skills they currently have, allows you to forgive more freely, extend an offer of help and provides an opportunity to provide training or feedback so they can do better. Take a moment and think, has anyone wronged you or done something wrong at work... are you I still holding onto that sense of injustice or anger? Now - change the lens you are looking through and believe that, the person was doing the best they coul...d in that moment of time. Their action may have been wrong but your anger or continued sense of injustice won’t help the situation in fact it keeps you in the same place. To move on you need to get over it and educate the person on what is right or more appropriate. When we are children our parents, guardians, teachers and family teach us their views of right and wrong and at work there are guidelines, policies and value statements to guide us. Businesses large and small need to do more than have guidelines and values statements they need to be off the wall and part of the culture which means talking about them regularly, acknowledging when someone does something particularly well and address when improvement is necessary. New managers and emerging leaders may find conversations about behaviour improvement difficult but they do need to happen. My advice for those of you stepping into leadership positions is to first see an error in judgment or action as an opportunity to educate or be educated. When you do this you are creating a new lens to look through. Do Elephants Jump is an agency that creates customised programs for your leaders and we are taking on new clients. #leadership #doelephantsjump #leaders #lens #leadershipdevelopment

17.01.2022 Not, achieving your goals? Now, is the time to notice the secondary gains that are preventing your success. Secondary gain is the reason for staying put as it justifies, why reaching the goal is not all-encompassing.... Allow me to provide an example. Bob wanted to be a manager however he was never offered the position. He could have applied or demonstrated leadership qualities but he didn’t. Bob’s secondary gain for staying put was that he liked his team, they were friends and he didn’t want that to change. In this example, Bob’s secondary gain was stronger than his primary goal but because he was not acutely aware of it he did nothing to address it and was never promoted. I invite you to take a deep look inside and just notice if there is anything holding you back. When you become conscious of a secondary gain you can then do something to squash it or figure out a way to compensate for it. Once the secondary gain is addressed it will free you up to meet your goals. If you need help to discover a mystery secondary gain I am here to help. #leadershipdevelopment #secondarygain #doelephantsjump #coaching

17.01.2022 Where do you focus? If you are not careful you will miss all the good and successful things you are accomplishing and have accomplished in the past.

17.01.2022 Let's be honest at some point we will slip up or will do something wrong here is a simply perfect response to preserve your working or social relationships. Say the following 1. I'm sorry... 2. That was not my intention 3. I will do better ... and if you are on the receiving end of this declaration be gracious and just say thank you and then most importantly let it go. Do Elephants Jump is a business that develops leadership skills and we are taking on new clients. . . . #leadershipdevelopment #leaders #slippingup #doelephantsjump

14.01.2022 Always learning this time it was learning from the master Micheal Grinder and the focus was on non-verbal communication.

11.01.2022 The question is who has the problem - is the receiver of feedback closed off or the did the person providing feedback overstep a boundary? People see things differently, read situations differently and hear things differently...if you are in disagreement ask some questions and learn about the other person's perspective before choosing to get upset.

04.01.2022 Yes, anxiety can sometimes get in your way and yes if you want to you can fight with it and win.

04.01.2022 Sometimes, we hold onto our beliefs so tightly that we miss opportunities or become too narrow in our focus. I invite you to loosen your grip and become open to seeing, learning and accepting more.

04.01.2022 Self-leadership skills include knowing what you want, being aware of what you are good at and where you need help, it's about having the ability to manage emotions and so much more. I invite you to add more self-leadership traits to this list to help other people understand and see the skills they need to develop before moving into a position of leading others. Self-Leadership Traits... I choose my destination. I decide on the route to take but will remain open to exploring along the way. I stay positive in tough situations. I have permission to make mistakes and learn from them. I ask for help when I need it. I take full responsibility for my decisions. I respect you even when we have a different point of view. I am in a perpetual state of growth. I will be a learner forever. #leadershipdevelopment #selfleadership #doelephantsjump #leaders
