25.01.2022 COVID-19 update: Given the serious nature of the crisis now facing us all, and the steps being taken to deal with it, we have decided that our cellar door will remain closed until further notice. We are, however, still taking orders so if you would like to make a purchase then (as before) either give us a call on 0262265898 or 0413318405, or email us at [email protected] so we can arrange payment for and delivery of your wine. Stay safe and well until we get through this "interesting" time. Julie and Dennis.

25.01.2022 Given the worrying recent resurgence of COVID-19 infections, we have reluctantly decided to again close our cellar door to visitors until further notice. If, however, you wish to purchase some of our wine then please contact us either at our email address ([email protected]) or call us on our landline (62265898) or mobile (0413318405) so we can make appropriate arrangements for payment and delivery of your wine. Best regards, and keep well and safe. Jules and Dennis

24.01.2022 Dog Trap Vineyard has been rated a 4 star winery (i.e. a "very good producer of wines with class and character") in the 2011 edition of James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion! The 2008 Lyn Shiraz came out top with 91 points, the Tony Shiraz and the Cabernet Sauvignon were next with 90 each, and the Shiraz brought up the rear with 89.

24.01.2022 Just finished lifting the last of the foliage control wires in the Shiraz. Back-breaking work because one can't start until the vines are big enough for the wires to catch the foliage as they go up and by the time you reach the end of the patch they've grown so much it can be a real physical workout trying to lift all that weight of new foliage in order to hook the wire on! Great that it is now finished!

22.01.2022 Aaah, the 2016 vintage is over! It hasn't been the easiest of seasons (very hot and dry, interspersed with occasional downpours) and everything ripening earlier than normal as well as almost simultaneously! Nevertheles, the fruit quality we achieved was very good indeed and consequently the wines are very likely to be so too. Now we can relax a little before the vines lose their canopies and it is time to start pruning in earnest!

21.01.2022 In recognition of the developing coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic and the potential threat it poses to the health and well-being of our visitors as well as ourselves, we have reluctantly decided to temporarily close our cellar door, effective immediately. We will, of course, monitor the situation and review this decision in early April. In the meantime, if you wish to make a purchase from us please contact us either by 'phone (0262265898 or 0413318405) or email ([email protected]) so we can make appropriate arrangements to complete your purchase and deliver your wine. Keep safe, Julie and Dennis

16.01.2022 Getting ready for the upcoming Murrumbateman Field Days this weekend now (and the ad for them in last Sunday's Canberra Times "Relax" magazine insert featured a photo of me from last year's event)! I'm also scheduled to give a fifteen minute talk in the "Spotlight on the Region" tent on both days at 1200. Haven't worked out what I'm going to say yet but I'm sure I'll figure it out - even if it is when they give the microphone to me! Cheers, Dennis

16.01.2022 Recovered from the Field Days, so now it's on with the business of growing grapes and (eventually) making wine out of them. First spray of the season will probably be tonight's work.

12.01.2022 The 2011 vintage is over - and what a year it was! An extremely trying, very wet season that demanded extraordinary efforts to defeat the disease threats, but we managed pretty well for the most part and were rewarded with a sizable crop of very good shiraz and an even larger one of excellent cabernet. So, the 2011 wines are looking like they will turn out very well indeed despite the difficult season.

12.01.2022 Well, I guess once every four years or so is not too often to post an update! It's been an interesting four years too. Another difficult season in 2012, a terrific one in 2013, a lesser one in 2014, and a blinder in 2015! Difficult seasons or not, though, the wines from them are lovely (see our new website), just different in style - reflecting the years that produced them. And I still love running the vineyard and making the wines! Cheers, dennis

10.01.2022 The new toy - Jules' retirement present! And no, it's not what you're probably thinking, because she actually wanted and chose it. Well ,,, perhaps there was just a little of what you're probably thinking in there too!

10.01.2022 Well, now that things have settled a little, we're coming out of hiding. Open tomorrow (Sat 6th June) from 10am. Social distancing, etc still apply, but we'll be OPEN!

07.01.2022 Been doing tastings from 6.30pm to 10pm at Floriade NightFest for the last two days (one to go). It's been frantic and exhausting, trying to serve the hordes of iterested people there, but the response to the wines has been very enthusiastic. Only permitted to do tastings, however, rather than sales, which is a pity, but still I guess one needs to do these flag-waving exercises to let people know one exists as well as to push one's brand forward in their consciousness!

05.01.2022 Ah, nothing compares with a little Mozart to restore a tired spirit after half a night spraying, a morning cleaning the sprayer, and then getting back into the mowing that urgently needs doing. Everything is growing so fast you can almost see it happening before your eyes! Then there's all the other jobs that need doing! Ah ... Mozart

03.01.2022 Ah ... At last, some PROPER rain! Best Christmas present a vineyard could have when an El Nino is in full swing!

02.01.2022 Well there won't be any 2020 wines from us. Like many others in the district, and more widely, the smoke from the fires has done us in this season. Oh well, next year ...!
