25.01.2022 Well said Daniel! This is what it means to be a dog trainer, and to receive training.

24.01.2022 Last week I was working with Ronin the Basenji and his family, including new Basenji addition, Roxy. Basenjis are one of those breeds that is known to be difficult to train, especially with things like the recall. Some people even say they can't be trained. Well Ronin is living proof that they can be! His family adopted him as an adult dog with no prior training. The recall has been the most challenging. He was doing it, but he wasn't enthusiastic about it. He would just ki...nd of slowly make his way over, often getting distracted mid way or walking straight past the handler. So to get him having more fun with it, we made it into a game. The main thing you want to create with the recall is a fun and fast association to run to the caller right away. Adding in fun makes the dog run to you faster and that all makes the right connections in the brain that this is something to do NOW. As you can see, it worked really well. We also randomly took turns so he stopped predicting who was next. Roxy was joining in and learning by proxy and she did great too and got a reward each time. With a bit more practice, these guys will have a great recall in no time. Well done to the whole family! If you're dog isn't coming when called, contact me for a one on one lesson.

23.01.2022 Thank you so much to my amazing clients. I have absolutely loved every minute training with you and Cobber and this surprise has made my day

20.01.2022 Meet Chips! She’s a #labrador cross #boxer and she’s a darling. We met to work on excitable jumping and mouthing with guests and kids and general obedience. She’s a pleasure to work with and responds very well. #boxador #labradorretriever #boxer #dogmatters #dogtraining #bundaberg

19.01.2022 The office today. Working with Yakuza who is coming along in leaps and bounds with his training.

18.01.2022 Ananda <3 We have just started our puppy training program together doing in home and in studio lessons. In studio? Yep! Ananda's Mum owns @happinessyogaau and we are going to help Ananda to become a well mannered Studio Dog! This photo was taken after her first training session - training is a lot of brain power and she's fried! ... Stay tuned to see more Ananda the #saintbernardpuppy #saintbernard #saintbernards #saintbernardtraining #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #dogtraining #bargara #bundaberg #yoga #puppy #puppiesofinstagram #stbernard #stbernardsofig

17.01.2022 This is Moose! He’s a mixed breed who had his first session with us this week to work on polite greetings instead of jumping up and mouthing, and pulling on the leash around other dogs and people. He responded so well! We look forward to seeing his progress. #dogmatters #dogtraining #mixedbreed

16.01.2022 A little late but happy International Dog Day! Show us a photo of your dog? Here’s Envy enjoying her morning cuddle before we start the day (she doesn’t sleep on the bed because she takes up too much room, but she can visit)

16.01.2022 Slim the dachshund. We are on about our third lesson and here he is ignoring the food temptation in front of him while working on the leave it command and also staying on the bed. He can also walk past the food and recall away from it. All great for a little sausage who loves his food! #dachshund #dogmatters #bargara #dogtraining #dachshundtraining

16.01.2022 Eddie the jack russell puppy in his basket. During our puppy session we discussed whether crate training could be a good option for Eddie. It's important to be able to supervise young puppies, just like you would a toddler. And if you can't supervise, confine to a safe area. A crate being a small area also helps teach dogs to hold their bladder and wait to go outside to toilet, as they don't like to go where they eat or sleep. Eddie's mum was a bit concerned at first becaus...e she didn't want to be mean putting Eddie in a cage. Which let's face it, is basically what a crate is. But it turned out that Eddie was already sleeping in a makeshift crate - two laundry baskets clipped together. The negative connotation of a cage is something only humans will have ingrained automatically. The dog's view of a cage is going to depend on how it's used. We use crate training like a cot would be used for a toddler - it's a safe space to be calm and rest. Not a cage for torture or punishment. They don't need to be locked in all the time, but puppies do need a lot of rest and down time while they're growing. Otherwise if they are overtired they can misbehave more too. What a tool is depends on how we use it. It doesn't need to be automatically bad. Eddie wouldn't see much difference between his home made crate or a wire crate with a comfy bed inside. How cute is he? Looks like a calendar model! #dogmatters #dogmatterstraining #dogmattersdogtraining #puppytraining #puppy #puppies #jackrussellterrier #jackrussellsofinstagram #jackrussell #jackrussellpuppy #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice

16.01.2022 Here's some snippets of sessions with Bear. I have been really impressed by Hayley's handling skills and the amound of effort she puts into practicing with Bear. Due to this, their training with me is paying off immensely. "Before working with Tenille I had altered the path of our walk and was scared to leave the house due to Bear’s reactivity towards other dogs. I had only had Bear a short amount of time and was working on our foundations such as loose lead walks and basic ...commands. Bear was excelling in this area however was very reactive whenever we saw other dogs, cows and motorbikes. "After just one session I had seen a massive change which has only improved with continued practice of these techniques. Thank you so much. Although Bear and I aren’t yet perfect, you have given me all the tools and confidence I need to succeed through any challenges we may face." #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #dogtrainingbundaberg #bundaberg #dogtraining #germanshepherd #germanshepherdtraining #dogreactivity

15.01.2022 Gemma the #springerspaniel zooming into the New Year like... I love training sessions on the beach. Using a long line gives dogs and their owners more freedom to make choices, more opportunities and more fun, while staying safe, not intruding on others, and obeying the law. #dogmatters #dogmatterstraining #dogmattersdogtraining #beachtraining #springerspanieltraining #slowmotion #slowmotionvideo #slowmosunday

13.01.2022 Ananda practicing her calmness @happinessyogaau Happiness Yoga Studio. To be a studio dog, you need to channel your inner Zen and know how to just Be. Staying on place and accepting that is her current job is the first step to Ananda just chilling and staying calmly in one place no matter what. #dogmatters #dogtraining #dogmattersdogtraining #happinessyoga #yoga #doga #stbernard #stbernardtraining #stbernardpuppy

13.01.2022 And this is Covi. The first pup I’ve trained named after the pandemic! Butter wouldn’t melt, right? Despite being cute as a button, Covi was displaying some concerning behaviours with his owners. Mainly, play biting very ferociously. He would go for the throat biting! ... Now this does need to be stopped but it is common and still part of normal puppy play. Some pups act more uh, feral, than others! Covi is on track and is going to be an adorable companion for years to come. #cavalierkingcharlesspaniel #cavalier #cavalierpuppy #dogmatters #dogtraining #bundaberg

11.01.2022 Lola and I popped into the new Raw Fur Sure shop today. What a treat (literally!) they have so many natural treats and supplements available and of course the best raw food in Bundy. They’re on Princess St - make sure you check them out!

11.01.2022 I recently did a lesson with Spot and Monty. Both dogs including Spot here were way over the top excited on any sort of greetings and would jump all over people. When dogs have never had clear communication and we do a lesson, they often learn so fast once they see the difference in clear signals and cues from us. The difference is often like day and night and was definitely the case with these two pups. #dogmatters #dogtraining #kelpie

11.01.2022 If you remember Ronin the #basenji - this is his new littler sister Roxy! She’s so cute that I feel a bit puppy clucky!

11.01.2022 Cobber was adopted through a rescue group and had no prior training. He would pull hard every time he was distracted, especially by other dogs. So James and Liz decided to take the Complete Canine training program with me to make sure Cobber was safe and reliable. We worked on leave it, sit stay, drop & stay, and lots of recall. Check out his stellar recalls and focus in this video. Thank you Cobber, James and Liz. It was a pleasure training with yout!

10.01.2022 A lovely enthusiastic sit stay and recall from Slim the #dachshund and his owner Angela. When I met Slim a few weeks back he was anxious and not as happy he could be. Training has made him like a completely different dog, for the better! He’s so happy and much calmer around the house. His separation anxiety has vanished and he listens to his owners. Way to go team!

10.01.2022 Here we have Baxter (chocolate border collie), Bailey (red border collie) and Bear (GSD). Baxter is a reactive to dogs but especially doesn’t like German shepherds. Coincidentally, Bear had been working with me nearby on reactivity and his nemesis breed is border collies. Now that all dogs had progressed to a safe level, we decided to get together so we could practice to everyone’s advantage. This walk may not look like much, but it was a great session. It’s hard to believe... it but only 1-2 sessions ago Baxter was SCREAMING at a calm GSD we saw on a walk. And the first time I met Bear? He nearly pulled me off my feet lunging towards another dog. Well done to all involved here. This is great progress! #dogmatters #dogtraining

09.01.2022 This is Bailey. Over a year ago I visited her family and their other border collie Baxter, when he was just a puppy. Now the family has a new addition and have decided to do a training program to help both dogs to listen right away including around distractions. Baxter has developed a few unhealthy habits like shadow chasing and barking so we'll be working to solve those before Bailey picks up on them too, and create good manners for both dogs. #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #dogmattersrocks #bordercollie #bordercolliesofinstagram #bordercolliepuppy #bordercollietraining #bundaberg #dogtrainingbundaberg

09.01.2022 IS YOUR DOG BORED? HOW TO MAKE YOUR DOG’S REGULAR FOOD INTAKE WORK TO YOUR ADVANTAGE (& THEIRS) You’ve probably heard of environmental enrichment - where we leave our dogs with something to do in their environment while we’re gone. If you’ve had to spend any time in lockdown, you might know how boring it can get to be stuck at home with nothing to do. Imagine what it’s like for our dogs when we go to work all day!...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Chester is looking, feeling and smelling gorgeous after a deshed groom at @kryskapetboutique ! They did a wonderful job and I’m sure he feels lighter after his thorough deshed.

08.01.2022 Bear the #germanshepherd is such a good boy. But he was reacting pretty severely to other dogs on walks. I was impressed to see that his owner has already followed online videos including those in the Dog Matters Academy and Bear already has some super foundation skills that just need some polishing up. Next we started our walks. Seeing Bear behave so well before we went, I wondered how bad his reaction would be. As we were standing by the side of the road, a dog ran up to t...he fence we were next to and exploded barking, sending Bear into a pulling barking frenzy and taking me a little by surprise! How happy we were that a week later he can walk past the same behaviour from the same other dog with little more than a silent glance. Good job Bear and team! #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #dogtraining #dogtrainingbundaberg #bundaberg #germanshepherdtraining #helpforreactivedogs

08.01.2022 Pole lover, dog mother. A highly accurate tshirt came today from @polelols Two loves on one shirt - perfection.

07.01.2022 Odin had his first ever dog training session with me yesterday. We discussed with his family how to decrease his destructive habits and then we worked on the recall as it was the most important priority for them to get on top of. Odin was in the habit of playing keep away in the back yard and not coming when called - thinking it was a great game! We were able to get him associating the come command with a nice fast and enthusiastic recall. With a bit of practice he'll be a pro in no time. #dogtraining #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #bundaberg #dogtrainingbundaberg #mixedbreed #mixedbreedtraining

07.01.2022 Thank you Lickimat for sending us some goodies to try. The dogs loved testing them out! Here’s a quick video with our experience with the LickiMats and LickiMat bowl.

07.01.2022 Puppies have so much to learn to fit into the human world. It must be so confusing for them sometimes! That’s why it’s so crucial to learn about how your puppy perceives what is going on in your day to day interactions, and what they’re learning from it! This gorgeous puppy is Marley and we just met for an initial consult yesterday. Marley is a typical bouncy and excitable puppy. Yet she calmed so quickly and went into learning mode once I started showing her what to do. Th...en she was all about showing us how smart she is. Training can show you your puppy’s true potential and that’s why we love it. #dogmatters #dogtraining #labrador #puppytraining

06.01.2022 This is Minka and she just started her Training Essentials program with me. Minka was an unusual case for me, in a good way. Usually my job is to help with behaviour issues and naughty dogs with high energy. But Minka is super chill and easy going. But, every dog benefits from training and Minka wants to be a therapy dog- so we still have some work to do! ... Good girl, Minka. See you next week! #dogmatters #dogtraining #goldenretriever

05.01.2022 I’ve been seeing quite a few dachshunds lately. This is Limo! Can you guess the main behaviour issue that I see dachshunds for? #dogmatters #dachshund #sausagedog #dogtraining #dachshundpuppy

05.01.2022 Another #dachshund ! This is Monty who lives with Spot from my last post. Sorry for the cute Pooch spam but I’m way behind on posting photos and have a backlog!

04.01.2022 It’s a pleasure to be working with this little cutie patootie, Justice! Justice is a young bulldog puppy ready to take on the world. He has a special role to play in his family and I’m delighted to help them along the way. #bulldog #dogmatters #dogmattersdogtraining #dogmatterstraining #dogtraining #bundaberg

03.01.2022 One of my new private lesson students is Robin here. I am loving working with him and his family and he’s progressing really well. Some people say this breed can’t be trained. Do you know the breed?

02.01.2022 During a training session with Bronte and Marlee with their owners Geoff and Deb today, we were lucky enough to meet @johncoutis who helped immensely with teaching the pups polite greetings and getting used to novel stimulus. Great to meet such an inspiring person in a beautiful location. Thank you JC! #dogmatters #dogtraining #inspiration #bargara
