25.01.2022 Entries for the L1C - Element trial Containers, in Nth Rocks, NSW on 17 Oct 2020, hosted by K9 NoseTime are now open. This event will be run according to NSW ...government health department Covid 19 requirements and may be cancelled at any time subject to changes with Covid 19 in NSW (if cancelled full refunds will be issued). Competitors enter here http://acsw.com.au/events/17oct_l1c_nsw/ and volunteers enter here http://acsw.com.au/events/l1c_17oct20_nsw_v/ ****IMPORTANT NOTE **** ACSW Event Format Change With the Covid-19 situation in NSW slowly improving, ACSW is happy to introduce a new operational format to maintain good covid-19 safety standards, while at the same time encouraging more ORTs and Element Specialty trials. Starting September 2020, entries into Element trials and ORTs will see the competitors divided into three separate groups, based on their running order. This will enable us to stagger the number of people attending at one time, helping us to maintain social distancing. For example, if the ORT has 32 registered entries, once the running order is assigned, the first 11 competitors will be asked to arrive first thing in the morning (8:30 to sign in for a 9am start). The second group of competitors with running order numbers 12 to 23, will be asked to arrive and sign in by 10:00 for an approximately 10:30 start. And finally, if you are in the third group of competitors with running order numbers from 24 to 32, you will be asked to arrive at 11:30 for a 12:00 start. We hope this new format will enable more opportunities for everyone to enjoy more Nose Work fun. We also recommend that before entering any ACSW event, you check with the governments most recent updated covid-19 information to ensure you are able to attend. If there are any changes to the restrictions and you are unable to attend, your host or ACSW will give you a full refund of your entry fee.
25.01.2022 Thanks Lesia and K9 Nosetime for our photos from our Nosework class last week. Clever Genki!
25.01.2022 We talk a lot about this in puppy school. Socialisation is calm, positive exposure to the world. Not, run 5km on the coastal path or go to Saturday kids sport for 3 hours. Sit and observe things at a distance that your pup can stay calm and process information.
25.01.2022 This is nice. Nowadays one of my most used phrases is "great choice!" as it recognises that my dog is a) thinking and b) choosing wisely. For example, he used to rush outside to bark at birds/gardeners/anything and now he stops, thinks and decides instead to come to me for some treats.
24.01.2022 Kongs and Ice Blocks: mashed potato, chicken and chicken stock, cream cheese and some leftover rice..
22.01.2022 Why feed in bowls? It takes 0 time and is 0 fun. This is the way to do it!
21.01.2022 Noseworkers, here is a webinar if you are interested, or not sure about, trialling. http://k9nosework.com/webinar-trial-smart
20.01.2022 Another fabulous commentary from my friend Jal. It is simply not true that dogs need to be exhausted, they need to learn to relax which is completely different.
20.01.2022 Here is Luca on only his 2nd week ever of Nosework. Can you tell when he picked up the scent and worked it back to source? What second? Phoebe, you are allowed to answer!
20.01.2022 Manage your expectations..We seem to expect so much from our new pups and rescue dogs that we often set them up to fail. An adult dog's cognitive ability is that of a 2 year old toddler so they can't understand as much as you think they can (no, they can't feel guilt, revenge, stubbornness). In addition, pups and rescues are trying to cope with a new family, new environment, new rules and we haven't even started to build relationships and trust yet. Go slow, remember they are just babies, be kind and lower expectations. It takes work from both sides to build a bond..
20.01.2022 Rainy day amusement.
19.01.2022 Dates for your diaries Noseworkers for ORTs and Trials: https://acsw.com.au/information-calendars-for-orts-trials/
19.01.2022 Here is Argo and his humans looking very pleased with themselves - he is a great searcher and enjoyed his private Intro to Nosework course!
19.01.2022 Here is Genki, very proud of himself after a successful check up at the vet. Vet visits can be hard for many dogs, Genki included, but we can certainly do things to help and support our individual dogs such as waiting in the car park or consult room, not the waiting area; giving your dog context clues; mat training and asking the staff to accommodate your special needs. Email me if you are interested in a detailed description of Genki's customised 'vet protocol'.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to our most recent puppy graduates and their humans! Kobe, Pepper, Teddy, Charlie, Jeff, Posie, Lulu, Rocky, Roku, Cindy, Lola, Lulu, Pepper, Remy, Branco, Yumi, Ziggy, Billie-Jean and Hardie - awesome work!
18.01.2022 Cooking day..leftover mince pork and rice with a mashed sweet potato. 3 Kongs, 1 lickimat and 2 ice blocks.
18.01.2022 My good friend Jal is the BEST dog trainer. Many people force dogs to interact with other dogs and then get annoyed because they dont cope well in the situation they have been forced into. Go slow and the results speak for themselves. Great stuff Jal, Tully and Ori! (miss you guys)
17.01.2022 Slow, steady with lots of distance! So...taking your 10 week old puppy to watch kids soccer for 2 hours is not going to teach them calm behaviour!! Thanks Jalyn Neysmith, as always, for sharing such succinct snippets to great dog ownership.
17.01.2022 Thanks to Jane at Innovative Pet Products and www.lickimat.com for my samples. Pups and doggies are going to love having a go on these...
16.01.2022 Rope toys are great to direct your pup's teeth onto something appropriate (i.e. not you). The longer the rope, the further away you can be from their mouth. Here's Harvey demonstrating how it's done.
16.01.2022 Some leftover beetroot hummus and Greek yoghurt, frozen, delicious!
15.01.2022 Our latest trick, thanks to Rachelle Tiahs online trick course.
15.01.2022 Some Advanced Noseworkers working a tricky wall hide. They all smashed it!
15.01.2022 Recent puppy graduates!
14.01.2022 Brothers Reggie and Chester doing their private Intro to Nosework lessons. Spot the difference!
14.01.2022 If we provide dogs with outlets for their doggie instincts, we see fewer problem behaviours. Here is Genki doing a bit of digging, humping and killing the squeaky pig. What fun!
12.01.2022 Dogs arent born with self-control. Here is Rocky learning that laying down on his mat and staying there while humans eat from the table gets heavily rewarded...
12.01.2022 Search of the week goes to Max! He sure knew where he was going and ignored all the distractors (which included cheese, cat hair and horse poo, hummus, flowers and bubble gum perfume!)
11.01.2022 Wise words indeed. It is an outdated notion and I see lots of adults telling their kids to stick their hands in front of a strange dog. Totally inappropriate, so now you know better!
11.01.2022 Thanks for all the fun this term. See you next term Noseworkers!
11.01.2022 Kong of the week.. mash potato, canned dog food, yoghurt, blueberries...
11.01.2022 It's reactive dog day! I do every single one of these things with Genki: scatter feeding, nosework, restricting access to the front window at peak times, chews, lickimats, trick training, helping him sleep (and knowing) when he needs to. Exhausting, but all that can be done without much effort or money.
11.01.2022 Your dog needs to sniff!
10.01.2022 Salmon skin and milk ice block. Licking is one of the calmest activities we can give our dogs, plus it cools them down.
10.01.2022 I used to throw a handful of kibble in the yard for Genki to hunt for breakfast. As he gets quicker at sniffing out food, I progress to hiding each kibble in trickier areas. If your dog solves food puzzles too quickly, get more creative!!
10.01.2022 For those of us with anxious dogs, there is emotional support out there for the humans. "Anxious Dogs of Australia Support Group" Facebook group is now archived but you can still view all the content. There is also "Complicated Canines" Facebook Group which is live where you can post and ask questions or just find some comforting words if you and your dog are having a bad day. For more hands-on training and guidance for your specific situation, please give me a call.
10.01.2022 Watermelon lickimat - ideal for a hot day (the photo makes it looks a bit gross but sure it's delicious)
09.01.2022 Canned dog food and Greek yoghurt, frozen lickimat. Order from lickimat.com and get 20% discount with code DOGSTARTRAINING
09.01.2022 Here is Buddy doing his Odour Recognition Test to end his 4-week Introduction to Odour private lessons. Nailed it!
09.01.2022 Thanks Di and Annie for sharing this article. Of course, we Noseworkers know all this already but for those new to dog owning, lets give our dogs the respect they deserve - they are far smarter than many of you think!
06.01.2022 I love the relationship between this girl and her dogs. Too often we let our kids do inappropriate things to their pups (chase, wrestle, excessive cuddles, too much picking up) and expect the dog to tolerate it. Instead we need to teach kids how to interact with pups so that both parties are having a great time. How? Train tricks, backyard agility, treasure hunts, create exciting food puzzles, hide and seek and many more...
06.01.2022 Noseworkers! This is Bruces first ever experience of a blank room. He nailed it! "Mum, nothing to see here, lets go.."
06.01.2022 All dogs can be taught to use chew toys, some take a bit of time but it can be done. They are essential for puppies!
05.01.2022 I always thought, when it came to my dog, I needed to do more. When my first dog had behavioral issues I thought he needed more exercise... More training More mental stimulation More interactive toys. What I never realized was He was really good at DOING things. But the skill he lacked The one that got us in trouble ALLTHETIME Was the skill of doing NOTHING. He didn’t know how relax. And all I did was keep him busy. Listen I don’t care if your dog is reactive, or if you have a dog that you are competing with in dog sports Teach them how to do nothing. Teach them how to chill out How to relax And for the really busy dogs Make them practice it often. Your sanity and theirs will thank you
04.01.2022 Dogs arent born with self-control, we have to teach them. How? Leave its and Stays are a great starting point. Here is Rocky learning to leave it..
04.01.2022 Some of the latest puppy graduates. Well done Hughie, Ziggy, Chance, Frankie, Zoe, Harvey, Lily, Luna, Harvey, Murphy, Dixie, Ella, Tilly, Pippi, Sundae, Pippa, Poppy, Tyson!

03.01.2022 Fabulous to have guided these doggos through Intro to Nosework. So proud of their progress, each one is on their own Nosework journey so success looks different for everyone, thats why Nosework is so great. Congratulations Ruby, Mac, Hachi, Murphy and Axel.
02.01.2022 Congratulations Chester and Reggie for awesome work for K9 Nosework Intro to Odour course.
02.01.2022 Resharing because I think about this everyday.
