24.01.2022 Update from David Sales, President Hi Everyone Below is the decision from the Tasdogs Board Meeting last night.... Following the information released by the Prime Minister and Premier last Friday regarding the gradual relaxation of the Covid 19 restrictions, Council has given consideration to the possible extension of the suspension of sanctioned events. Given that it seems that gatherings outdoors of over 20 persons will not be permitted before mid-July at the very earliest, Council has decided to extend the cancellation of conformation shows only, until 31st July. It is recognized that some activities may be able to be commenced before conformation shows and to this end Council has appointed a Working Party to work through all the requirements be they the Government Health, Work Place Safety, ANKC or DogsTas rules and regulations and produce a set of guidelines with which affiliates which are conducting sanctioned events must comply. The situation will be reviewed at the June Meeting. At the same time clubs which have sanctioned events scheduled until 31st December 2020 may if they wish, elect to cancel their shows without penalty. No sanctioned events of any nature are to be conducted without the prior approval of DogsTas being obtained. Naturally any proposal as part of the approval process will have to be okayed by our insurer. In the circumstances, the June/July edition of the Gazette will not be printed. If clubs decide to proceed with their fixtures that are scheduled for August, September and October a Gazette will be complied in July 2020. Our priority is the safety of our members and the community more broadly. While fixtures will look a bit different in the foreseeable future, we are confident our members will rise to the challenges and make the necessary adjustments. 17.01.2022 SCAMMERS We are receiving reports of MANY breeds being offered by scam internet sellers on multiple platforms. We cannot be clearer than this....DO NOT send money for a registered puppy unless you have checked their registration out with Dogs Tasmania (or other state ANKC body). You need to do your research & check into all their claims. We are contacted multiple times a day from people who have been either scammed or almost scammed. ... If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is. If you need to check a registered breeder is legit- 62729443 (10-2). Another good reason to buy a purebred, registered dog. See more
15.01.2022 WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING PUPPY BUYERS PLEASE BE AWARE Those people looking for a puppy please DO NOT buy a puppy from a business called Golden Land in Tasmania or from any breeder in Tasmania who is not a member of the Golden Retriever Club of Tasmania IT IS A SCAM!!! We have had several reports of people paying money to these people and now the supposed owners have blocked their number and won’t enter into any correspondence with them. They were sending... the puppy via Australia post, which is ILLEGAL anyway. Sadly it looks as if they have lost all of their money. PLEASE only buy a puppy from a breeder who is a member of a state breed club, it is the only way you can guarantee the parents have had the relevant health testing, and will be honourable in their dealings with you. I understand it is difficult to get a puppy at the moment, but it will be worth it in the end, please be patient. Please contact Dogs Tasmania on 62729443 for referral to a registered breeder.
12.01.2022 CLOSURE SOUTH STREET DOG PARK, CLARENCE STREET SIDE Please be advised that from this morning (Monday 28 September) the Clarence Street side of the South Street Dog Park will be closed for renovation for approximately six weeks.
09.01.2022 A MESSAGE FOR ALL DOG OWNERS We have just been informed from the Tasmanian Animal Hospitals that they have had two positive cases of the Parvovirus in dogs ...from the Eastern shore in recent days. Parvovirus is a highly contagious disease and is a serious threat to canine health. It is important to ensure your dogs are up to date with all vaccinations if leaving your residence. Puppies are at risk of the virus until their last vaccination so please practice safe socialising. If any of the below symptoms occur or you have any questions, please contact your local vet. - Diarrhea - Repeated vomiting - Lethargy - Unwillingness to eat
08.01.2022 With several hotspots indicated by local councils around the state - this is important info for Tasmanian owners. CANINE ENTERIC CORONAVIRUS Canine enteric coronavirus primarily causes intestinal disease in dogs. The virus does not affect people or other species and is unrelated to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in humans. Canine enteric coronavirus is found worldwide and has been reported in Australian dogs since the 1980s. The illness is transmitted by direct... contact and contaminated droppings. It is generally a mild disease of dogs but if you suspect your dog may have contracted this disease you should contact your vet immediately. Canine enteric coronavirus and a number of other infectious diseases in dogs can be prevented with good hygiene and biosecurity practices and owners should take appropriate hygiene precautions when moving dogs and people between kennels. It is important people seek veterinary advice on vaccination. Kerry Smith Dogs Tasmania
01.01.2022 Remember to do your homework if you’re looking for a purebred puppy or dog to join your family. This is a link to all the registered breeds our members can breed. https://tasdogs.com/about-dogs/dog-breeds/... If it’s not on this list it’s not purebred. If anyone is claiming to be a Dogs Tasmania member and is selling cross bred pups - it’s probably a scam, using a stolen number. Our members Code Of Ethics explicitly states they cannot cross breed. We STRONGLY recommend you contact the office on 62729443 (10-2 weekdays) to verify a membership number BEFORE parting with any money.
