25.01.2022 Out adventuring again today with Cr Dolly Jensen to discover what we have in our region and share with residents. A wrong turn, two minor heart tremors and the ...very real possibility of soiled undies and we arrived at Pure Point Lookout where it appears abseiling is enjoyed. The view, you’ll see for yourself, is stunning. Well worth a little extra OMO. See more
25.01.2022 At Nelsen Reserve this friday morning 10th July at 8am, I'll be representing our Mayor and community at the Naidoc Flag raising event. Please feel free to come along and join in our celebrations and a yummy morning tea.
24.01.2022 Our region is dotted with small country towns and our little halls are the hub of the community. They are the meeting place, be it fun, fire or flood, so today at our hall's forum we met at Widgee to discuss the effects of covid as well as emergency preparedness for natural disasters. We have a few newly built community halls but the majority are well in excess of a 100 yrs old. We, as the committee members, are just the caretakers, to keep these meeting places safe for the next generation. It's a hard slog to keep finding ways to raise money for the upkeep but thankfully there are grants available for the upkeep of these little gems and our communities partnership team do so well helping with the writing of grants etc. If your little hall needs help, jump onto the GRC website and our team will help you.
23.01.2022 I was so lucky to have been invited to the SCIC (Supporting Chemotherapy in Cooloola) luncheon today at the Mt Pleasant Hotel. They're a lovely bunch of people and Marlene Owens does an amazing job organising outings and lunches and fund-raisers. Gympie is lucky to have you all.
23.01.2022 A lovely morning at the Curra Community Hall AGM (sorry about the old photo but I was having so much fun I forgot to take pics). Then I met up with Councillor Shane Waldock and his lovely wife Jo, to help celebrate 120 years of the Gympie Fire Service. These blokes do an amazing job and we are forever grateful for their service. Finally made it home in time to put some lamb flaps (breast of lamb if you don't like the butcher's name for them) in the oven. Now it's feet up while dinner cooks. Have a great afternoon everyone.
22.01.2022 A nice early morning start to attend the chamber of commerce breakfast where we discussed obstacles and solutions to local development.
22.01.2022 I'll be doing the acknowledgement to country in recognition of sorry day and reconciliation week at this morning's meeting. We are livestreaming from 9am of you'd like to tune in. https://www.gympie.qld.gov.au/
21.01.2022 Beautiful Cait Shadbolt. Another jewel in our region. Well done!!
21.01.2022 An early morning start but honoured to be able to represent our region and our council to open the Kia Ora Gymkhana this morning. The work that the volunteers, judges, organisers and most importantly, the parents do to make this event possible is totally commendable. It's not until these kids grow up that they'll realise the sacrifice their parents made every weekend to be there to shape their lives. Today, they'll all go home home winners. What a cracka of a day.. Loving our Qld winters.
20.01.2022 It was a full house of councillors for morning tea at the Kilkivan Museum. What a wonderful tour (and delicious food). An absolute credit to the volunteers that spend their free time preserving history for future generations. Well done and thanks for the invite.
18.01.2022 Another early start, this time for the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast where we all share ideas on how to make our wonderful region better. #growth
18.01.2022 Local businesses... please get on board
15.01.2022 Totally honoured to be at the Senior Citizen of the year awards yesterday morning. Two totally worthy recipients. Well done!!
13.01.2022 We enjoyed a lovely morning at the CASI Naidoc week flag raising event where we launched our new library card designed by First Nations illustrator, artist and storyteller, Greg Driesse. #naidocweek2020 #alwaysisalwayswas
12.01.2022 More adventures in our beautiful region....
12.01.2022 Out and about again with Councillor Bruce Devereaux. This region has some amazing little treasures hidden away. We are also loving the messages from people giving up their favourite haunts. Thanks heaps for that, we'll get there as soon as we can.
10.01.2022 A wonderful morning at the gallery today opening the wild/flower women III exhibition. A perfect display of not only magnificent art but the fight by female activists (starting in the 70's) to save the Cooloola coastline and keep it pristine for future generations. They won and we are blessed with pristine coastline untouched by industrial giants. Here, on the beautiful Cooloola coast, the artists gathered wildflowers for this exhibition, escorted by Aunty Nai Nai, and from it, this amazing collection of artwork. Home made paper, home spun fabric and clothing, paper dolls, embroidery upon paintings, rusting nails to make paint, this exhibition has it all. You still have a few days to see it at the Gympie Art Gallery. Don't miss it. It's worth it.
10.01.2022 Out and about in beautiful Kandanga...
10.01.2022 We had a wonderful morning with our Curra community members attending the hall's agm. Small communities survive only because of the commitment of wonderful community people such as these wonderful folk who constantly volunteer their time. Well done. A wonderful Qld flag presentation to the Curra Country Club from our State Member, Tony Perret.
10.01.2022 A 5am start for me today beginning with the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast in Gympie with the Mayor and CEO being invited to speak and then over the Dickabram Bridge for the Miva CWA AGM where I was honoured to be invited as their guest speaker. The locals were very kind to me and now I'm in a food coma. #cwa #sconesjamandcream
07.01.2022 I changed the name of this site today after being sworn in as your Councillor of Division 2. It's a little bit different to what I expected but COVID19 has taken the frills off most things. Hopefully we'll get back to our kind of normal in the next few months but know that I'm here, batting for you. As soon as we can we'll have local meetings. Until then, hang tight, stay safe and we'll all be together soon. Once again, thanks heaps for your support
05.01.2022 Look who I ran into at Rainbow Beach! Our new CEO, Shane Gray. I was happy to take him around and introduce him to some locals and show him this beautiful little jewel in our region. Plus, it was a perfect day!!! Ahhhhh Qld. You know how to please. #beautifulonedayperfectthenext #notchrishemsworth
03.01.2022 This book is an amazing example of Gympie's early learning history. Well done, Dan Green. It's an absolute credit to you. Thank you for keeping our history alive for our future generations. All this from a young 23 year old Gympie man. You should be proud.
01.01.2022 Signing in to the opening of the gallery post covid featuring Roy Mayfield and Rourke Wines "the R & R Showdown and 2019 stencil art prize. Come on down!!! We're open!!!!
